    The one advantage of the RN short smoke is you’ll rarely sit there long enough to get torped, but your smoke effectively baits the torps which might otherwise have hit a silly old BB.

      Reminds me of the advantage of having a short gun range (specifically on the pan-euro dd's) that allows players to fire in open water and remain stealthed so long as their target doesn't have LOS since the bloom doesn't expand very far.

    • @ColoradoStreaming

      I have noticed that as well playing a US DD. I will smoke up to get the hell out of a bad situation then watch the 1:30 timer tick off while I scoot to another part of the map. Long smoke charges are great at Tier 5-6 but once you get radar cruisers and smart DD players the risk is usually not worth sitting in it.

    I appreciate the focus on free ships. I think it helps reduce the FOMO when people see free ships, and especially free ships that aren't too hard to reach like a tech tree T8, doing well. I assume a lot of people are freshly F2P (I know I am) so I think it's a good thing to see more of this right now.

      All the negative press WarGaming has been getting lately actually got me to START playing for the first time! I only pay for premium time so 10$ a month but the grind is fun! Japan and Germany with a bit of UK mixed. Subs are trash though..
      I'll never buy a premium ship, they're outrageously priced and as you said: you can have just as much fun in tech line ships!

    12:50 That's a pretty good sign that his internet is fine, what a lot of people don't realize is that ISPs cheap out and the modem/router they give you is often the bottom of the barrel garbage, especially those combo units that do both (even the aftermarket models suck), they're not even worth taking for free but what makes it worse is they actually charge a rental fee for that crap, if nothing else buy your own router, something inexpensive like ~$30 is fine and you'll probably be a lot less frustrated.

    I've been playing thru this ship, and I hated it. Me like big number. Me no like play for team. That said, after I figured it out, this ship is amazing. It is an absolute pest with decent guns, good conceal, and amazing smokes. I am almost to Jutland now, and I just had an amazing game where I kept an Alsace, Jean Bart, and ZF-6 occupied for 5-10 minutes on our side's cap with an afk scharnhorst in our spawn and the rest of my team dead.

      I've fallen in love with the RN DD line after the 10.7 PTS run against subs. They're almost like a jack of all trades DD, effective against anything you may run up against in some way. I FXPed up from Jervis to Daring first chance I got.

    • @dgritsak147

      Personally the Lightning is my favorite tech tree ship, and I've hard carried games with doing 150k+ dmg and close to 3k BXP. The key is to help get the enemy DDs killed at the start so you can operate within that 5.5km detect - 8km torp range of enemy ships and rack up huge dmg numbers. The trick is to keep firing torps from odd angles at ships, and if they go bow in, just single fire them in a narrow space to land a few hits, when the enemy ship uses DCP you smoke up and start lighting fires.. you keep doing that and with a few torp hits and fires on 2-3 BBs is an easy 100k

    • @Goofygooberston
      @Goofygooberston 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried them but they're not my cup of tea, mainly because they're such generalist ships. I like the min-max playstyles other lines offer a lot, whether that be IJN torpedo boats for being a plague with high damage stealth torps or just raw general DPS with the Swedish DD's (which I particularly enjoy for their blitzing torps)

    I love playing Lightning (or any British DD) in ranked. It/they are just so versatile that the small team mode is ideally suited to them, and small maps mean that their relative lack of speed is less of a problem. They are so strong against other DDs that 2k+ bxp games are pretty routine.

    RE: The Tone, I was reading a book on Midway recently (sorry, can't remember which), and the author made an argument I hadn't encountered before: Even if the Tone's scout had taken off on time, the position of the American ships was such that it wouldn't have spotted them until it was on the return leg of its flight path. Meaning that it wouldn't have made any difference time-wise.

  • @ShawFujikawa
    @ShawFujikawa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    There was no real tension in the replay once the enemy Tone somehow managed to whiff his final salvo and Akizuki got outspotted in open water. Friendly Akizuki basically killed himself and made it closer than it needed to be but 2 battleships will always lose to a DD that passes the skill floor check.

    One thing's for sure: Lightning starts fires. Love having 7 short smokes: also love the inline torps for shocking stilled campers bow on. Its AA sucks but I did earn an AA expert "once" lol.
    It's 35 kills to get AA expert on the NA server: 20 AA kills elsewhere. Love lightning: A unique ship that offers a challenging, fun, sneaky 5.5k conceal, 007 "gotcha" type of playstyle.

    Internet lags could be so many things. Honestly, I haven't experienced throttling here in the US at all, at least where I am at. Either way, I did have a bad modem that was causing frequent lag spikes and other problems. Once I replaced that, I haven't experience lag spikes at all.

      theres also a lot of old line amps in the us more then 15years old that get hot then have to cool down over and over i see less of it at night but in the summer in the day it happens almost every 4 or 5 min so 2 to 3 times a game for me the loss is about 75 to 99% of a 1gb net service

  • @ColoradoStreaming

    Here is a tip for shooting out of smoke when you know the enemy is going to blind fire you. Dont fire all your guns at once as a salvo. Shoot them off one at a time. If you shoot DD guns all at once then the enemy simply points the crosshairs between the muzzle flashes and hits you. If you shoot one at a time it is harder to track you actual location. I remember getting nailed by a CL once shooting a full salvo so I switched to single fire while creeping forward and back and the CL didnt even bother to shoot again after that even though his guns were pointed at me.

    a few years ago, when i played ships every day, i used to buy 365 days of premium every year to grind lines. i don't play now, but i played a few months ago without premium time. I thought grinding would suck without premium time, but it wasn't that bad. I worked on the euro dd's from the start to get the halland, went from amagi to yamato, and reset the japanese hagumaro line to get research points. of course, i have a ton of camos and flags because i've played for so long, which made it less painful. a new player without camo and flags would have a different experience. the only reason i'm posting this is to suggest to anyone like me who always plays with premium time to grind lines, give it a try without it to see how you manage. it may not be as bad as you think. then, you may realize you don't have to give this dumpster fire of a company your money to enjoy this fun game. i hope this information is useful to someone.

    Did WG disable the “force reload function” on the torpedo launchers? It used to be that you could press a key and restart the reload cycle.

    • @dgritsak147
      @dgritsak147 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you talking about reload booster? It's a consumable that instantly reloads the torpedoes that's found on the IJN gunboat destroyers, or on Asashio, or on Shiratsuyu/Kagero/Yugumo if you swap it for smoke. A couple others that I might not remember from the top of my head.
      RN DD's torp launchers dont start reloading until the entire rack is launched, and I personally feel like that should be updated to how sub launchers or the airstrikes work, where is you launch one, it starts reloading automatically instead of waiting for the whole torp rack to be empty before starting reload process

    • @detritus23
      @detritus23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dgritsak147 No. In previous interactions of the game you could force torpedo tubes to reload after a partial salvo by pressing a key (“F”, IIRC), which would restart the reload timer for all tubes. I think it even worked for main cannon, but that may be incorrect. I rarely used it and only on ships with side-mounted torpedo tubes.

    Jingles...I recommend you read Shattered Sword by Anthony Tully and John Parschall. it kinda goes over many of the myths of Midway...one being that it was Tone no. 4 that caused them to miss the carriers. Chikuma's scout plane no. 5 went over the USN fleet almost directly and didn't even see them, so he was probably being lazy and not flying below the clouds.

    The reason why there is better communication on the American servers is not just that there is less of a language barriers but the fact most Americans and Canadians are outgoing and somewhat chatty to strangers. Even Mexicans and Brazilians are more outgoing than then Spaniards or Portuguese. I can't explain why, it just seems that way.

  • @vampirecount3880
    @vampirecount3880 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jingles, the NA server isnt just for the NA players, in fact the entirety of the american continent plays there. Im from Brazil and theres plenty of us and other south americans on the server. In world of tanks we have our own server down here in south america, but not in WoW.
    My theory for the more communication in NA is that US players naturally tend to communicate and coordinate more in online games from my experience. They seem to think they're all tactical experts, i guess theyre more into military stuff than most and they do have better knowledge.
