Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
I say that because the .40 kicks more than some casual shooters like or can even handle well. The 9mm is fine, so there's no need for someone who does not shoot all that much to take a chance with something that knocks them around in a small gun that is harder to shoot well. One reason a lot of people like to hate on the .40 is that they cannot handle the snappy nature of it. Just my opinion.
I think the Glock 23 is a perfect first gun for if someone is looking to get a 40. If you get good with the 40 once you get a 9 should be a smooth transition idk just my opinion I went with a 40 for my first gun because I had alot of 40 cal ammo stocked up for my PC carbine so just made since to buy my first gun something I have alot of ammo for. Thinking of getting a 9 next forsure. Maybe a Glock 43x maybe a M&p not sure yet
I love my G 23 gen 2&3 I would never give them up
Glock needs to sponser you for influencing millions of Glock purchases. Your videos are spot on, we are truly thankful. {bows}
Lenny Magil the man to do it I love Lenny too
LMAO I LOVE HOW HE JUST POPS UP AND SAYS GLOCKS
Lmao
Hickok... Glock should put you on their payroll. I've bought my last 2 handgun models after watching your videos. I never wanted a baby glock before. Well, guess what I have... never wanted a Glock 19, really glad I bought one also. You've sold more Glocks than the best salesman at a gun store... And I just wanted to say thank you :)
PoppaBear I owe it to hickok for my first purchase being a glock 19. I love it
Pretty sure he is does receive indorsememts from Glock.
For instance, those TH-camrs that promote toys, make-up and gamers. Yes they do get indorsememts from companies.
"Whatever you can shoot well is most effective"
Awsome to rewatch these earlie videos, its like you guy evolved after 10 years, but than at the same time not much has changed, and both are positive
Glock 19, probably the most multi-purpose handgun on the market. Another great video.
26 lol
I have a glock 23 gen 3...love it. Best gun I ever shot
I gave it some thought and decided to trade my Glock 43 for a Gen3 Glock 26. 150/rds through my 43 and a local firefighter put 500/rds through his G26 (only 200 through stock barrel, however).
I couldn't be happier!! I automatically have 5 magazines for the 26 because I already own a G19 Gen4. A lot to be said for the 19/26 line up and mag capacity.
Don't get me wrong, the 43 was a great little gun and I miss it. I carried it a little with a Sticky Holster and it worked fine. But being the "bean pole" that I am it still printed lol. I thought to myself,if this gun is going to print why not just trade it for a 26 and gain capacity and compatibility?
Couldn't be happier.
Pretty smart move !
I have the G26 and the G23. Funny story about my 23 (gen 3), when I bought it I wasn't actively looking to buy it (I wanted a 19), but just couldn't pass up on the deal I was getting for a used 23. It just felt right in my hands. So, I took her home, loaded up a couple of magazines, filled up some two liter bottles, and to my amusement and surprise I found that I can handle .40 S & W. Yes the recoil is a bit more snappier than the 9mm, but I find with a little practice and a proper grip the recoil is manageable and can make shooting two liters a lot of fun. Now all I need is a 19 and a 27 to finish my fab four collection ;). Thanks for another great vid, Hickok45.
@eamonher , I've never had any trouble with the .40 caliber Glocks, but I know that the newer .40 barrels five more support to the brass. It was simple enough to change out; this Glock is a very early G23.
This video is one of the main reason I ended up getting the 19 and 26. I am so happy with both of them, great recommendations!
I can see how challenging it could be to stay on target with a 27 without the +2 mag. Lot of bang and no as purchase on the handle as what I would like.
Keep the great work Hickok!
I have had a gen3 g26 for over ten years. It's just like my wife. Not a lot of romance there but I'll never get rid of her.
If she's putting up with you. Try harder. haha
That is depressing as hell lmao.
Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣👌
Going back in the Hickok archives and this man is simply the Best..can watch his content all day..I just bought my first 19 last week and couldn’t be happier..Thank you for all these years of amazing content.
"whatever you can shoot well is the most effective"
best quote on caliber ive heard!!!
I originally bought the Glock 22 thinking i needed a bigger gun but because I had Hickok in the back of my head saying " I dont feel undergunned with a smaller sized gun " i went back that day and chose the Glock 23 instead. Thanks Hickok
I can't believe I only found Mr. Hickok a week ago!!! Unforgivable, I know…
The reason I found you, Sir, was because I was undecided on which firearm to "Upgrade" to, so I thought I would search TH-cam for help, not realising I would find the best gun-guru in the world.
Here in South Africa we are only allowed to own ONE gun for self-defence and I was battling to make the right decision.
"Whatever you can shoot well is what's most effective" Great way to put that. It looks like none of them really have recoil when you shoot them. I strive for that, and better accuracy. It's harder than you make it look : )
@407buddy , I totally agree. No home is complete without a Glock 19!
ive been using the 23 as my edc for 5 years now and absolutely love it.. have never had a problem at the range.. same size as the 19 with a bit more punch.
Very sensible advice here, Mr. Hickok45.
My first centerfire pistol was a Taurus PT92. It has a fairly thick grip and I noticed that my pinky finger wasn't doing a whole lot to hold or stabilize the gun in hand so I started to hold it with a very loose (or even lifted off the grip entirely) pinky finger. I didn't notice any big difference in my accuracy with that change. Now, when I'm shopping for a compact gun to carry I don't even realize that my pinky has nothing to rest on.
Life IS good.
I'm researching Glocks as I am about to purchase my first Handgun. A Co-Worker/Firearm Enthusiast suggested a Glock 19. I appreciate your information and your approach. I've shot Handguns, but never owned them. This is such a great help. Thank You so much. Looks like i've found what i'm probably looking for. Now to go shoot one. Really enjoy you and your Videos. Gold Bless You from Canyon, Tx.
that intro was really random and funny!
Nickey Fynn I was just laughing at this. You can tell he's having a good time "Glocks...dontcha love em?"
Hey, hickok45! I'm a proud owner of a Glock 26 Gen4. Mainly because of my friend, who is law enforcement, and reviewing your videos. I've added a few extras to my G26, like Trijicon night sights, Talon grips and pinky exts on the mags.( I know you don't like them, but they do help me!) I've put over 600 rounds thru it using various brands of ammo, even the cheap Tula steel cased w/o a single FTF, FTE or stovepipe! I LOVE THIS GUN! It's perfect for c&c, which I do. Great videos! Much thanks!
Been a little over a month since I bought a Glock 19. Shot about 600 rounds, and carry it with me all the time. Thank you very much for helping me purchase a Glock.
Now in a couple weeks going to purchase a Ruger lcp for a very deep concealment. Hickok45 is the best.
have had my G27 now for 6 months. love the gun. own many hand guns but the G27 is my favorite. I also shoot it better than any gun i have, most accurate one. would not trade it for anything and it is what i carry.
On the Glock19: "It's the gun. Go buy it. You can't go wrong." Roger that kickock45.
that pop out from behind the table had me cracking up
Completely agree, don't jump right into a .40 without putting a few boxes of ammo through a rental first if you're new to firearms. Some dudes will get into it with the intent and planning to be diligent to make it to the range. After a couple months you might find you have a problem with the cost or availability of ammo or just decide there are other things you'd rather do than go to the range every 2-4 weeks...
@JasonAlexVoorhees , yes, or at least is select fire - you have a choice between semi or full auto.
@Frontiersman101 , Sure. I shot my G27 in competition once or twice. You just have to decide which is more important, placing high in the match or getting good experience with your carry gun. It's a common dilemma and one reason I don't shoot as much competition anymore. I just can't get excited about "competition" guns.
I bought a 9mm conversion barrel and 5 Glock19 mags for my G23 and now I feel like I own 2 guns for all practical purposes. 20 second change over and my HTS mag loader works with both calibers as well. I've got about $200 in the 9mm conversion which is a lot cheaper than another $500 for a G19. Point of impact w/conv. barrel is less than 1/2 inch different off a rest so no problem there and if you're a reloader, the conversion barrel will shoot cast bullets ok unlike the Glock factory barrel.
third time watching this video...1) I get pumped watching Hickok make targets ring 2) I love the excitement in the his voice, eyes and how he still handles a weapon hes shot for 20 sum years 3) I own the glock 19 and have the same creepy love he does when I look at that table.
Thank you for your videos Hickok45! After watching most of your glock videos I was able to make an informed decision and I decided on the 27. Gotta wait till thursday to pick it up but it's mine! The first shot will be dedicated to you. Thanks again.
Thank you Glock Godfather for this excellent review. I have a glock 19 already and ive been contemplating a 26 or 27. But im still undecided.
U get it?
@xmanhockey7 , Never had any sight problems with Glocks.
@Ziniac187 , Thanks. The grips are Talon grips.
@ndcent4u , Shooting a lower recoiling gun is a bit more forgiving. Any pistol takes practice, but a harder kicking gun bring on more flinch generally. It takes more practice and training to avoid flinching and jerking the trigger.
Very nice. I'm personally a fan of the G23. It's my CC, perfect size/weight, but still not too small.
great as always boss...I was dead set on the 22 but now Im veering towards the 19. hard to ignore light and cheaper ammo.
@N5II , That's pretty much what I'm trying to get across in this video. Guess I'm trying to define what "comfortable shooting with" means to me. A lot of people are likely walking around "comfortable" with what they are carrying, but couldn't hit a basketball with it from six yards if they had to. That's why I get into how much they are going to shoot and practice. There's no easy formula or answer, of course.
@ABorell12 , Sure, all you have to do is raise the slide lock lever while the slide is back, and it will lock open. Should be the way it's left lying around on the shooting table anyway.
Funny you wrote that, I had a 19 back in 91, then the 40 came out and everybody was changing over. Sold it got out of guns, now i'm back and the 9 is poplular again. I bought a 40 and I'm sticking with it.
@akompsupport , That's a viable option. I'm not much of a "conversion" gun. Been there; done that. You just have to experience it yourself, I think, in order to decide if it's for you or not.
@DemskeetSkeet , For several years I used the Hogue slip-on rubber grips. I was a master at cutting them just right and fitting them. One day I decided to try skateboard tape, and it really grew on me. The rubber made the grip bigger, and the grips would slip around on me. They are still my second choice, though. They are available all over the place, but you might try the web if you can't find them locally. MidwayuSA probably has them.
@Obeace , Not unless you're going to buy and sell quite a few guns, I think. As I understand it, you have to pay a fee for the FFL, as well as order and sell a certain number of guns a year. It's a small number, I think, but you still have to meet their requirements.
Glocks are hard to find in 9mm! I finally found a Glock 26 yesterday. I bought it for $625. I bought it for a concealed carry gun. I took it to the range right after I bought it and cleaned it. It was flawless! Now I have a Glock 26 and a Ruger P95 in my pistol collection. Buy a Glock in 9mm if you can find it!
@specialforces99 , Yeah, I know, but I think the G28 is the exact same size as the G26 - way too big for the little .380 cartridge. I don't understand why anybody would want it.
@BaylinerCapri32, Due to the increased recoil, I just think you need to be someone who shoots a fair amount in order to enjoy and handle the .40; otherwise, the 9mm might be a better choice. You still need to shoot a lot in order to be good with any gun, but the 9mm might be more forgiving, to some extent. Some people have a really hard time with any sort of recoil and even think a 9mm really kicks hard.
This guy is just awesome nothing else to it... I can listen to him talk for hours and mainly because hes just being his genuine self. He knows a lot and is very wise, but he is just a truly genuine person that shares his passion and knowledge about something he loves, guns. Thanks my man keep it going
Glock 17, 19, 22 and 21... love the feel of the bigger frames.
@teri369, I like them both. This Crossbreed is really comfortable, though.
No Matter what you're talking about...i cant lie...i just really like watching you shoot...very impressive...
I just put 200 rounds through my G17 this morning. GEN 1 G17! Bought it used in 1993 and it's still going strong....tho' I replaced the recoil spring with a metal one just because I was paranoid.
But yeah, the G19 really is the ideal 9mm. Eventho' I imagine you can carry a G17 without issue, you tall bastard! Fun vid!
As I said, because we are only allowed to own ONE gun for self-defence, I was confused on which gun to buy but thanks to your very informative videos, I have decided on the Glock 19 Gen 4.
Thanks again for your videos, keep them coming.
@MrBladeDude, 1st and 3rd, I think. I can't tell any difference; they are both great! I have not shot the 4th Gen gun yet.
@travisedmiston , Maybe, but I think competition shooters are buying most of those, and they know exactly what and why they are buying it. Guess some noncompetitors buy them, too, though.
I have a 23, and, IMO, it's the best all-round defensive pistol that Glock offers (I'm not a tremendous Glock fan). I'd like to see how it would run with one of the Robar metal frames (aluminum or stainless steel). Those frames have a 1911 grip angle, and a heavier frame would be nicer to shoot, too.
hickock, thanks to your videos, i now own the glock 27 and 23 with talon grips. I have Lone Wolf 9mm conversions for a little taste of both worlds.
Video suggestion: demonstrate the hitting energy of the various calibers by putting the camera in line with the swinging plates to show how far they get pushed back. Kind of like the recoil demo you did a long time ago but from the target's perspective instead of the gun's. You could even get fancy in post editing and overlay frame captures showing the relative maximum pushback for each caliber. Compare 9mm, .40, .45, 10mm.
I think that the answer of your question is in the "Glock Fuction Animation" vid. The barrel is not solid to the frame and swings to allow round to get loaded . Since the gun is in "loading mode" the barrel points up.
@HiR0N7 , These are Howard Leight ear plugs.
I'm glad I saw this video, I was planning on buying a Glock 19 in a couple of months. My local shop had one but it was the RTF frame. Talk about AGGRESSIVE texture, I thought it was uncomfortable. I have a 1911 but .45 ammo is very expensive even if you're like me and only shoot 2 or 3 times a year. 9mm is a lot cheaper, Glocks don't require much maintenance, and it could be a home defense or CCW gun with defensive ammo. My 1911 doesn't have an accessory rail so that would be a welcome feature.
Mr Hickok aside from obviously you being an expert in firearms and shooting to that matter. I would vote for you as teacher of the year. Just how you articulate yourself to your audience. Thank yo,u very enjoyable videos you and John make. :))))))
@deshonne23, Nothing wrong with a 9mm. Don't mean to be judgmental, but a lot of people carrying a .40 or .45 who don't shoot much would probably be better off carrying something with less recoil that they could actually shoot better. :-) Who's better armed, the guy or gal with a 9mm who can really shoot it, or somebody with a .45 or .40 who throws rounds all over the place?
@Frontiersman101 , It might be closer to the G36. I had a G36 for a short time, but I think it was more of a heavy push than being quite as snappy.
@noquie1 , I've actually tried the Decal Grip in rubber. Thought it would be great, but I really didn't like the rubber version at all. It IS a little thicker than the Talon Grip, as I recall.
hickock stays classy even when shooting glocks
pinkys up!
hey hickok! Bought my first gun today at the gunshop. Glock 23 was a great decision and that is all thanks to you!
@tacdriver22mk2 ,
I like to keep my .22 shooting in firearms meant to be .22s. I don't want to get used to .22 caliber recoil in a defensive firearm. That's just me, though.
Your videos made me consider the medium-size Glock pistols. Once I've got a place to regularly shoot, I intend to purchase a Glock .40 and I will consider both the 22 and 23. I don't carry, so I'm not looking at the 27 right now.
Your son does excellent camera work in this video. Everything is clear, focused, and in frame. I'd encourage him to try studio work if he gets the chance, I'm that impressed.
The first pistol I fired that was not a .22, was the Glock 26. It was easy to handle. I had smaller hands because I was 11, but I did not have a lot of recoil. Every Glock that I've fired has had very little recoil, and a lot of handling. I've had no malfunctios, and no other errors. If anyone is thinking "HK USP, or Glock?" Go with Glock. They are much cheaper, and muh more user friendly.
@Frontiersman101 , No, I'm still waiting for Glock to back up the truck to my house with samples. :-)
@neonshoji , Yes, I keep them stock, except for the Talon add-on grips, and a few I've bought used had night sights installed on them.
I'm tall guy like Hickok and I like the 9's because they are 30% to 40% cheaper for me to get ammo. As young person that's a pretty big cost when range fees are high also.
I just purchased a Glock 19. Definitely looking into a 40cal. Your videos are extremely informative and I appreciate your unwavering emphasis on safety. Keep em' coming. I inherited a Winchester 16-gauge shotgun from my grandfather. I've shot them plenty but am recent to own. A shotgun cleaning video would be awesome! Thanks for your efforts!
I agree that accuracy is more important, also 9mm is slightly cheaper ammo to shoot. I regularly shoot 40 and 9mm back to back at the range and cant tell much difference.
Just bought a glock 26 gen 2 from an old man who bought it in 1998 and never shot it for 300 bucks. it worked like a charm. I will say I like the 19 much better to shoot, I cant complain getting an unfired glock for 300 bucks at this point and time.
@ABorell12 , They are all more accurate than we are. Both are accurate. You mean "Talon" grips? They are not very rough, actually, so they should not wear your hands at all.
@Frontiersman101 , I can live with either ones. For some reason, the finger grooves don't bother me as they do some people.
Love all the videos! I own a G22 (HD pistol of choice), G23 (carry and HD) and G27 (carry) and love them all!
I have the 17,19, (used to own 20, traded, 10mm expensive to fire) 21, 22, 26, 27. My favorite for home defense is a shotgun...or the 21(.45 acp). For CC when I don't want to print, I go 26 with a MIC appendix carry. Otherwise can't go wrong with the 19 if you really don't care if people know you have a gun on you. I'll usually go 3-4 O'Clock carry with a N82 Tac if I'm wearing a jacket. Only reason I prefer the 9 over the 40 for everyday carry is the recoil is nothing. Follow-up is important.
@markiebize , My favorite is the G27, but I really like the G23 and G19, too. I carry the G19 or G23 around the farm a lot, but I like the G23 for concealment.
hickok45 what holster are you using in this video?!
Great video. Thanks. My opinion on which caliber to choose is different. I think if you're going to shoot alot, then pick the 9mm, ammo is cheaper. If you're just going to shoot a few times a year, or want a handgun to carry while hiking/camping, then the .40 is perfect. Either choice, any gun, Practice and Practice some more. Safety being top priority. Thanks again Hickok45 for all the time and money you put into these videos. I enjoy them alot.
It IS amazing...maybe as many, maybe more, than 70% of the people in the firearms community either own, have owned, or carry / use on a daily basis one of the 4 gun there on that table! I'd stand by that too. I carried a 26 for years, still think it has a place in carry. It's inspired many others to try to equal or better it, it's not for me to say if any have succeded. As is clearly communicated here, you really can't go wrong on the glock.
@TheMrhotcutesexyboy , the .40 has more punch, but that doesn't mean it's all that much better. The 9mm, .40, and the .45 ACP are all good cartridges.
@sunburstbasser , I'll make sure he sees your comment. Yes, he has an eye for the camera, I think. I make it especially hard on him sometimes, as neither of us is totally sure what I'm going to do once we start! :-)
I follow the doctrine that you should carry the biggest gun in the biggest caliber you're comfortable shooting with and concealing.
I recently went from a glock 23 for past 12 years, switching to a Springfield hellcat was a great for comfort, plus i still got 13 plus 1 in mag, the hellcat is very similar to glock in trigger and how it built
Polymer and Steel is how I gets my feels lol. Solid weapon. Got all four of those models.
I have a U.S. Made G27 gen 3 and i love it!! Only bad thing is the price in my country, $1,220 because of the taxes, and that was cheap because the Austria made were around $1,600. Life is good!!
Glad I went out and bought my self my first pistol and went for the Glock19. Now I'm going for the 26. Gen 3. Even when I move to Arizona this year, I'm still buying gen 3. Totally satisfied with Glock pistols. And I can't get enough of watching Glock videos. 👍
Great video. Hickok, you're a beast. I know you say you felt more recoil with the .40, but it looks like you're barely shooting a 9mm. Heck, you shooting a big .45 or .44 mag looks like most people shooting a 9mm.
@mfboom89 , Not sure for all the reasons, but a G26 size gun in .380 has no appeal for me at all.
for defense/carry, get .40 cal. Its similar to shooting a .45 ACP, and if you can handle a .45 than .40 is not a problem. recoil isnt that bad at all.
for plinking, 9mm is so dang cheap to shoot, and fun! i have a Glock 17 and its not a carry gun (its a bit big) but i shoot it as much as i can for a lower price than my buddies Glock 23.
Thanks for the sermon, Apostle Glock, in me you are preaching to the choir! I own a G19 that's my "When I work at night" carry gun, picking up my new G26 next week. Considering a G36 too. I wish Glock made a "compact" .45 ACP, the same frame size as the G19/23.
After years of research & practical experience I have concluded that, when choosing between 9mm, .40SW, & .45ACP, round count, shot placement, & shot succession are all more important that the diameter of the bullet. No pistol ammo will knock anyone down and the advancement in hollow point ammo puts quality 9mm ammo performance on par with .45. Therefore I choose 9mm JHP for concealed carry via G26. More rounds, less recoil, relatively same balistics. JMHO .. YMMV. v/r Hondo
I love seeing Hickok45's mag collection, remind's me of my 'glock mag box', gen 1, 2, 3, and now gen 4's are thrown in! I've loaded up in the last year, my year of 'GLOCK REVELATION'!! Glad I did, most of mine are 4th gen, but lately I've been coming across BRAND NEW gen 3 and gen 2 mags my gun stores' had sine the 90's ban (last 2 Gen 2 19 mag's were marked $150!!, paid $27)and ALL seem to work, and great thing about Glock's is you can replace the spring's and followers if you wear them out!
your completely right about my logic lol i do love shooting big guns, its alot of fun for me, i carry a nine as my ccw because i love how accurate i am with it, and its also fun, shooting any gun is fun for me i gues.
