1911 vs. Glock is kind of like comparing a Zippo to a Bic. They both do the same thing and the Zippo will require a little more upkeep on your part but the feel and the sound and the history can't be compared. I appreciate them both but I just love the old heavy piece of steel.
357magman I carry the Glock 27 because I like the power of a .45 but the speed and penetration of a 9mm so the .40 fits perfect. But my 27 weights 21oz unloaded and the normal 1911 weighs 39oz unloaded. The 1911 is around 8.6" long and my Glock is only 6.4" long. It's compact when I need it to be and if I need I can pop in a 15rd mag and it then has a full size grip. Or if I want I can pop in a 32rd mag and have plenty of ammo. My Glock is also 1.18" wide and the 1911 is 1.34" on average. Coming from about 20 years of shooting and shooting all kinds of pistols the Glock has to be my favorite for numerous reasons. I've had plenty of 1911's that will not feed cheap ammo reliably, collects dirt and powder way to easy, and I absolutely hate hammers on guns. I don't want an external hammer for anything. My only gun I have never once had an issue out of so far is my Glocks. My Rugers, Kimbers, and Sig's i've had stove pipes and misfeeds but my Glocks even with 1,000 in one shooting session not one single issue. I like shooting 1911's for fun but not for everyday carry and especially conceal.
Kevin V Thank you for explaining your preference without bashing either platform. This Glock Vs 1911 is ridiculous. Everybody has their personal preference.
David Horgan I believe points and discussions can be made without name calling and acting like fools. I see it this way. What ever gun you can shoot comfortably and defend yourself is worth carrying. Happy Shooting
***** Psychic, huh ? You also have a thing for ' sphincter's ' ? I've been here this long which means I've lived a lot longer than some, maybe most. Done a lot more than some too. Guess, I did something right, huh ?
I carried a 1911 more than 50 years ago, on duty during the Vietnam War. In recent years I bought a 1911, but I thought it was heavy to carry, and chose some lighter guns for concealed carry. Then I started developing recoil sensitivity due to some old injuries to my hands, then later started getting arthritis pain in my trigger finger. I experimented with a lot of handgun types and calibers, eventually going all the way down to a .22 LR for concealed carry. Then out of curiosity I decided to fire my Kimber Micro 9 again, and was surprised to find the recoil pain was much lower than I expected, presumably because of the narrow grip. So I then decided to try my full size all steel 1911 again, and was very surprised that the recoil really didn’t hurt at all. It is a Kimber Custom TLE ii, so it also has a very smooth trigger. And I tried more ways of concealed carry, and have found several that allow me to carry for an active 12 hour day without too much discomfort. So I am once again a happy 1911 shooter, and my accuracy keeps getting better despite my medical issues.
Have both, the glock is a tool. The 1911 is a work of art. Pleasure to shoot goes to the 1911. Looks goes to the 1911. For me, manual of arms goes to the 1911. OTOH, SHTF durability VS todays target model 1911s, goes to the glock. (OTOH, if you have a GI 1911 - those were made to far more loose tolerances - I'd call it a tie.)
Got my first 1911 back in 1974 and it's NEVER had a failure to fire after countless trips to the range. Mine is the Remington Rand model from WW2 and very accurate. It's a historical piece that likely saw real action. It will be passed down to my daughter since she enjoys shooting it.
When I was 22, I received a 1982 Colt Series 70 from my grandfather as a gift. Now I'm 35, I still carry that old heavy piece of steel every day and consider it perfection.
Chris Perry I really doubt there are that many people who think that 1911 is the optimal carry gun. But for gun enthusiasts there's a lot in that gun, from it's history to aesthetics. These things matter too.
+Toveri Juri I seriously carry my 1911 all the time.....I like the ability of having a full size gun that is slim and easy to conceal.....and before the comment is made that 1911s aren't easy to conceal.....let new say I'm 6'1" and 280lbs....I have plenty of body mass to conceal a full size pistol.....I've tried both the 1911 and Glock 17 and prefer the 1911 for comfort and overall performance in my hand...keyword "my"....but I love taking my Glock to the range and not having to reload as often lol
You should see people who are big into folding EDC knives. Being able to open and close it incessantly is called "fidget factor." They take it seriously
It all comes down to personal preference. How many of us are actually going to use our guns in a defensive situation? VERY LOW. Most shooting is done at paper targets, trying to shoot tighter groups, as shooting is a hobby. So I believe you should own something you feel comfortable with, that you enjoy to shoot, and that you shoot accurately. One is not better than the other. I know many glock owners who can't hit the broad side of a barn with all 15 shots, and I know some 1911 owners that can hit you at 25 yards with a single shot.
Any firearm will take down a threat when it comes down to it. Some just may take more shots. I agree that you should just shot what you enjoy and don't worry about what others think. Your gun, your money, your life!
I carry my Remington 1911 R1S cocked and locked wherever I can and I love it. Regardless of capacity and size, I'm comfortable with it and that's what matters.
@@davidbrown6773 so true. Police used revolvers for years and that was 6 rounds. If you can't hit your target in 8 rounds you need more practice. People are just careless with their shots, I mean look at the sights on the BLOCK their not as nice as a model 10 or a 1911. The sights are so fat.
There is nothing more amusing than watching a retired old man squeeze off about 20 lb of lead just because he can, and get more views than tighty video, God I love America.
Hey, I "resemble that remark"; I'm not retired or old. I'm a young guy, and this is my job. Too much to do to retire. By the way, who or what is "tighty"? :-)
You could get a dozen gun enthusiasts into a room and ask them what is the best pistol, you might get a dozen different answers, all making good points. Yet someone will bring up the 1911 and the fact that the 1911 is even in the debate after over a century of service? Truly AMAZING! Still, that dude in Austria who made curtain rods created what I believe is the best pistol one can find today and I have owned both 1911's and Glocks. The Navy Seals seem to agree as they have now gone for the Gen 3 Glock 19. I give respect to both John Moses Browning and Gaston Glock.
Although I know there is a ton of sources reporting the SEALs have adopted the Glock 19, and I know they have used these guns for years, there is no official source that confirms the SEALs have adopted the G19 for its standard issue sidearm. That said, I have carried a Glock 19 for years now, and love it. I also love the 1911. Two of the best designs ever, both of which literally revolutionized the handgun market.
1911's are completely badass, glocks however are a modern day combat pistol. In this day and age i'd pick the modern combat pistol over the vintage, in practicality of course. I deeply respect the 1911, but the high capacity and durability of the glock is superior in my book. Again, in this day and age
DemocracyOfHypocrisy True, however once you use one you will understand it's worth it. Only glocks I have are a 17, 29 and a 40 and they are okay aside from the terrible grip angle.
Have you considered HK's guns? They are polymer framed and high cap as well as having exceptional triggers on the hammer fired ones. (I have both hammer and striker fired of the exact same gun and the hammer fired is better)
I used to make fun of people who bought and shot Glocks.... I was talked into buying a Glock by Hickok45 and I haven't looked back since... They are very generic but they go bang every single time you pull the trigger..
.45 huh? Incredible. The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen... The slide's been reinforced, and the interlock with the frame is tightened for added precision. The sight system is original too. The thumb safety is extended to make it easier on the finger... a long type trigger with non-slip grooves... A ring hammer... The base of the trigger guard's been filed down for a higher grip. And not only that, nearly every part of this gun is expertly crafted and customized.
I've come to notice that Glock owners are notorious for dumping the mag , as to where 1911 owners take more pride in utilizing each round for what it's worth. I side with the 1911 all the way. Call me Old School.
I know I sure as hell do. At most, I’ll let pairs fly. But I’d rather wait a second or two for an assailant to start firing at me so I can ensure I have proper cover and sight picture and make sure my first shot does serious damage. Most self defensive use of firearms involves pistols being fired 3 times, from 3m or less, in 3 seconds or less. I’m not planning to dump my mag at any threat. I trained plenty in the Army on how to ensure target picture and target identification are properly set before pulling a trigger.
It's like comparing Ferraris to Porches. They're both great machines, and when you learn to drive either one well you'll keep up with anyone on the track. Maybe even win a race or two.
nobody is better than this channel . a Journey around the close up quality of hardware . So well done we see the wear. The go to place for bullet curiosity.
The ONLY drawback of the 1911 is the round capacity IMO. Some might say the weight but that weight is what makes it so perfectly balanced against polymer frames and such a smooth firing masterpiece. The 1911 is a timeless American design, all others are imitators.
Makes you realize how expensive shooting can actually be. Looking after he shoots the Glock with 10 or so magazines of 13 rounds give or take, your looking at a 100 bucks or so with 3 boxes of 50 plus tax. Expensive but Fun!
lugmuffin123 Yeah I know he gets ammo by sponsors, but I was referring to myself or others who would have the same kind of training/fun to this degree. I imagine that even Hickok had to supply his own in the beginning of his channel being launched years back.
Saint Louis, and for target 45 ACP ammo with tax ran 30 bucks at Cabelas. Granted this was about 18 months ago, but the price seems to stay in that ballpark area on pricing.
I am not a Glock fan and have never been, even when I was forced to carry one when I was in law enforcement. Have owned 1911's since the 70's and love them. They are 2 totally different animals.
+Juan David is commenting on every single post defending the Glock; face it son, that box that shoots bullets doesn't compare to the oldschool masterpiece that is the 1911
Oldschool doesn't mean better. Glocks are more affordable, lighter, more reliable, and have higher ammo capacities (even their ccw models). Plus they have more varieties in ammo and size. 1911s are more expensive, heavier, less reliable, and are always limited to 7 rounds a mag. Sure, 1911s are prettier and have that oldschool classic nature to it. They will always be more impressive to own and beautiful to look at, but if we're comparing them objectively for a combat situation, a Glock always wins, even if it's not as pretty.
Adam Gold Agreed. They specifically demanded double strike capability. Since the Glock did not posses it, it did not qualify. I think probably the worst thing about the Glock is its ugliness :) Other than that, it is quite a good firearm.
I’m a 1911 guy as well- always have been, and recently bought a G17 and built two P80 17’s. The Glock has a very specific purpose and the two P80’s were initially just a “let’s build a pair of guns for fun”. I really enjoy *range* time with them. The 1911 is a truly GREAT gun. The Glock and it’s derivative the P80 is an accurate, reliable prolific weapon. I wouldn’t call it ‘great’ though.
Old guy here. A plastic gun just didn't seem right when they came out. I have had 2 1911s, a CZ75, Browning High power, Smith & Wesson 3rd generation auto and a few others. None of them have been as reliable, goes bang every time, does not rust, is accurate As the Glock 17 I carry every day. It is lighter too.
@@WanderingExistence I liked the way it fit in my hand ..the fact it held 17 ..shooting it felt nice n smooth ...wasn't crazy expensive and tbh I jus like the look of glocks and it was easy to find parts online but I really do like 1911 that's my first gun
if you prefer the 1911 over the glock but don't like the limited mag capacity then you have a few choices such as the Para Ordinance p14 or the rock Island tactical ultra fshc45 both double stacked with mags upto 17 round capacity
No comparison whats so ever.. The abilities of a 1911 platform can't be matched. 102 yrs long of tradition and history, used all over the world, even by many countries Military, elite special forces groups, swats teams, shooting competitions, you name it. Glocks are good, reliable handguns and that can't be denied, however. 1911 is on a whole different level.
Everyone brings up the grip angle argument, but I have another one relating to the grip. Double stack vs. single stack mags. The Glocks are double stacked and while you have more ammo on tap, for someone who is smaller in general, they can't get a good grip on the firearm. The 1911 is thinner and thus easier to get a firmer grip on it.
Porsche 911 is faster, quicker and lighter than an old 57 Chevy Belair, it's to big and heavy, what do you need all that chrome and tail fins for? Just somthing cool about getting behind the wheel of a cherry 57 Chevy.
This guy is as American as BBQ chicken! Love his vids! I love my country, and served it proudly for 8 years. We love our guns and cars! Keep the vids coming Hickok!
I can not deny the reliability, weight and other pros of the Glock, who can? But that being said I'll still grab a 1911 over a Glock any day, any time. In the heat of the moment you gotta use what you know, like and train most with. I have all the confidence in 1911s. Im not a wild 1911 fanboy, Im well aware of its cons. It all comes down to personal preference regardless of what the pros/cons sheet says. In defense of the 1911s age, capacity, weight etc etc, its still around today for a reason. How many older gun designs have come and gone? Several and some completely forgotten. The 1911 not only endures but flourishes in todays market. Love it or accept it, you cant hate it or deny it. Same goes with the Glock.
+pdog305301 I have the 1911 and Glock 21 both! In my opinion they both do justice. I feel like its just self preference really. I don't look at the 1911 as vintage more like a veteran...Been there done that type of pistol appose to the Glock 21 is the young grass hopper lmao I carry both and shoot both so not really choosing a side. They both are beautifully made and shoot buttery smooth. LOL
+pdog305301 If your enemy had a Glock, they would have 5 more shots to YOUR center-of-mass before you get close enough to beat them with your steel. OR They would just draw the lighter gun faster and put the first round in you faster OR Your gun might jam, while the Glock is way more reliable. Overall, all things being equal, the Glock owner has all the cards and is more likely to bring down the 1911 owner.
My preference, based on my experience with both weapons, would be the 1911. I carried the 1911 in the Marines from 1976-82. This was my first experience with handguns so I have that sense of familiarity. I first heard good things of the Glock in the mid80's and was open minded. In 1987 I was attending a FBI firearms instructor class and a fellow student was carrying a Glock 17. While on the line the Glock went full auto when he fired his first shot. He pointed it at the ground until the mag was empty. Not impressed. In 1996 my SWAT team was T&Eing a Glock 40.sw which exploded while being fired. The eye protection saved his vision and particles had to be removed from his cheers. Additionally, during some SWAT operations I have found it necessary to "pistol whip" combative suspects with my 1911. The metal magazine well was clearly effective to achieve pain compliance . I don't believe the polymer Glock frame would have be as effective. I carry a 1911 today. I'm aware that Glock has rectified these functionality problems and is today a excellent firearm, I never experienced such issues with any 1911. This is just my experience and preference, yours may be different. ,
Like you I learned on the 1911. Navy from 77-83. I didn't have to carry it, just qualify twice a year at Little Creek amphib base. I still think that design is the best, feels good in the hand and points naturally to me, just not as many rounds as a double stack. But, I also like the Glock. I've got about three thousand rounds through a 23 with no failures at all with all kinds of ammo (over about ten years). No failures with my 27 either. Still like the 1911 better though. Like they say YMMV.
I think the dif. in width is in relation to the mag. size...Single stack vs. dbbl. stack. Which also has an effect on grip size. Glock is much wider due to it's dbbl. stack mag. For CQ I like the new Colt Defender, also in .45 ACP, but only has a 3.5 inch barrel with ergonomic grips... Steel vs. polymer? Let's see how a Glock fairs in another 60 years...
I love my 1911s and the Glocks are good tools. Saying that, I bought 4 high end 1911s in the last 2 weeks, ranging from $2K - $3800. They include a STI, Nighthawk, Wilson and Guncrafter. Three are having function and various QC issues. Two are already back for repair. I've been trying to get a return label for the Guncrafter for two days, and the Wilson has a 2 month lead time. Not super happy with the QC issues, but I have many 1911s I do love..some collectors, some competition, and some carry pieces. My take on carrying the 1911 is that you must train regularly with it in order to maintain muscle memory for the safety, and for speed reloads, which you better be fast at because 9 rounds runs dry faster than most people think in a gun fight. A 1911 will require more maintenance than a Glock. 1911s are in general more likely to have failures do to lack of lube, dirt, as well as springs, extractors ect. getting out of proper tune due to use. Maybe if I start shootings action comps again with the 1911/2011 platform I'll carry one again, but for now my EDC is the Glock 21.
I bought Kimberly micro 9, and rock island .45. No issues with either even with hollow points. Use the kimber 9 for carry. Even eats the aluminum cases with no problem.
RomanAutomotive We're the only country in the west where the people truly live and practice our culture where as Europe's culture is reserved specifically for tourist attractions.
My career started in ‘68 when we all carried a revolver. The sergeants also conducted weekly uniform & weapon inspections. We lined up in the roll call room and held out our revolver, cylinder empty & open, and the sergeant inspected it for proper care. In the ‘80s we transitioned to the Glock 23 and while uniform inspections continued, no more inspection of the issued weapon except during semi annual qualification at the range.
My carry gun is a 1911 Springfield Armory Ultra Compact in a Galco IWB leather holster. I installed Truglo tritium/fiber optic low profile sights. Glow nicely in the dark and light up like neon in daylight. Chip McCormick 8 rd magazines have excellent springs and followers. Leave them loaded for long periods and the springs will not set on you. My standard carry round is the Hornady Critical Duty 220 gr +p or the Remington 185 gr Golden Saber bonded. Both of these rounds perform very well in a compact 1911. Thanks Hickok for this video. 👍❤️
Colt, Glock, Colt, Glock, Colt, Glock ??? But the one important thing to remember is that the Colt design is over 100 years old and still going strong plus if you run out of ammo you could always club someone to death with it...
The 1911 is a highly respectable firearm, but modern day plastic firearms are superior. More durable, higher ammo capacity, more accessories. You just can’t beat that.
Nice video! I already have a Glock 17 gen 4 MOS and i love it. Went for a S&W 1911 e-series tactical for 45.ACP. Gonna take it to the range tomorrow to shoot it for the first time, never shot a 1911 before! :D
I'm new to guns and have been to the range with friends 5-6 times, trying out a variety of firearms. Finally, a friend handed me a 1911, and the moment when I saw my grouping, it absolutely blew my mind. I couldn’t help but yell at my friends, 'What the hell? Why didn’t anyone hand me this earlier?' It’s the only gun I’ve ever tried that I immediately knew I had to own.
I have a Gen3 G19 that I carrry daily, a Gen3 G34 as my tactical gun and they are tough as nails, i have at least 4000 rounds out of them between both guns, zero malfunction with shitty ammo (Russian Wolf Steel case ammos to be exact) , works in any condition, I barely lube my Glocks or even do maintenance on them, they work flawlessly. I have a Kimber SIS that is an awesome gun to shoot, but I hate it because its a prom queen, you can't even use the wrong type of ammo in that gun without it jamming, if I were to go to hell one day, I will bring my Gen3 Glocks with me any day.
My 1911 sounds like your Glocks and your 1911 sounds like an over priced piece of shit. Not trying to hurt your feelings or anything. I myself love my 1911's, but if they wouldn't feed anything I gave them to eat I wouldn't own them anymore. What's the point in having a sophisticated single shot pistol? To say you own a Kimber? If I were you, sir, someone at Kimber wouldn't be walking right due to me shoving that pistol up their ass. If I pay even $500 of my hard earned money, I have certain expectations. If I pay what you most likely did for your Kimber, anything short of outstanding would be absolutely unacceptable. This is why the Glock faboys have such a strong argument against the 1911. Is the 1911 a bad gun? Absolutely not. Despite the opinions about how old it is, it is still the measure by which almost ALL semi automatic handguns are measured. That being said, there are lots of manufacturers kicking out 1911 clones that can't make a decent pistol to save their lives. Therefore there are more bad 1911's out there than good ones. As I mentioned before, for $500 I expect a lot, and even though I'm not a Glock fan, you get much more than what you pay for with a Glock in my opinion. The reasons I don't own a Glock are totally personal preference and mostly ergonomics. Even at that, if one came up for sale for the right price I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I don't take anything personal, nor am I trying to defend my Glocks. I am just stating my personal experience between the two pistols. I expected more from my Kimber SIS for what I paid for it, but unfortunately my Kimber SIS is a high maintenance pistol, I took it to several armorers in town that were experienced with match grade 1911s and 1911s in general, nothing is wrong with the weapon, it just has somewhat tight tolerances. Its an awesome gun to shoot like I said, I just don't like having to always do maintenance on it. For the price I paid for it, i could have bought a half decent AR15 and build it up. Don't get me wrong, the 1911 is a great gun, the main reason why I personally prefer the Glock is because it fits into my hand perfectly, it's easier to operate, and I honestly won't feel bad if it gets all banged up and scratched up during one of my shooting trips where I'm constantly running and shooting from different covers.
I would get a 1911 because they are sooooooo pretty. The only 1911 I can have though (in the UK) is a LBP a .22 with a "coathanger" stock and an extra long barrel. I might just get an airsoft replica that looks the same, They just look great, a beautiful piece of engineering.
jeff ouellette It doesn't matter to me, I am not allowed a functioning 1911 unless it is a LBP (Long barrelled pistol 22lr) I just love the aesthetics of the gun - If I could get a real one though, I would probably go for a custom job,. I don't intend to go to war with it, I just love the looks.
I think they are both wonderful pieces, but there is something beautiful about that 1911. It’s heavy, but the vibration from shooting it and recoil seem to be controlled by the weight. But either one is a win in my book. They’ll outlast us with proper care.
I’ve shot both extensively and carried both as a patrol officer in a major city in the US. I collect and shoot 1911’s in competition. My 1911’s are my go to guns. My Glock 21’s stay in my cars cause I’d rather my Glocks get stolen than my 1911’s. John Browning invented dozens of popular weapons, guns we still use today, he was the Einstein of the gun world. Gaston Glock invented one gun. There’s no comparison for me. One is a tool one is a work of art.
I have a 1911 and I'm old school and I love having a hammer. Not only do I want to know my gun is safe I want to know yours is too. We all know that one guy...lol
I've always been a fan of both guns. Growing up as a kid I remember seeing guns and ammo magazines and seeing the 1911. Then I started seeing the glock my grandpa was in ww2 and he hated the glock. Called it plastic and said it's a shitty gun. Now 20 years later or so and glock is very popular, reliable, and imo the new American standard. The 1911 will always have a special place in my heart. But when it comes to battle and being reliable I will go with the glock all day for many reasons. I still carry my 1911 around though on the property with a glock in the truck sometimes
hickok45 that’s checking it maybe once or twice too make sure lol if you go back and watch your videos especially with you and the ranch guy you rack the slide at least 200 times is that checking if it’s empty?
I owned 3 glocks before shooting a 1911. Before the 1911, I thought I was a glock guy. I did end up getting a 1911 and I would happily sell all my glocks to get a few more of them. Very fun vid to watch, btw.
I have both the 21 and a 1911 and love both. I’m kinda the odd man out there lol. But if I had to pick one as my side arm in a firefight it would be the glock just for sheer capacity and field stripping capability. Which my 1911 has 8+1 I know they make 1911s with more but that’s what I have. Great gun, but I’ll take the higher capacity lol. As far as accuracy goes, they’re both pretty much the same for me. 4-6 inch grouping at 25 yards without taking too much time, so I can’t hate on that. If I take my time then it’s somewhere in the ballpark of 1-1.5 inch grouping for both guns, so yeah. Also I think the glock has a much smoother action than my 1911 but that might simply be because my 1911 was made in the 70s, so the wear factor could be an issue there.
Hello Sir. I am a 41 year old Canadian boy that is about to do my fire arms course and purchase my first firearm. I am very excited to do so and this is the first video I have watched on such content. I truly enjoyed watching your video and found you quit pleasing to listen to. I enjoyed your video and found it very informative. Thank you for all your efforts ! I will be subbing and watching for videos.
1911 vs. Glock is kind of like comparing a Zippo to a Bic. They both do the same thing and the Zippo will require a little more upkeep on your part but the feel and the sound and the history can't be compared. I appreciate them both but I just love the old heavy piece of steel.
possibly the best comparison i have ever heard, would make sense coming from someone with a clear sense of good weaponry (ccw .357 mag here)
357magman haha man so true

A 9mm Officer model 1911 should be an easy shooter for anyone with conditions you described.
Ah, Yes. The circle of life.
I fell you.....Getting old SUCKS!🤣🤣🤣🤣
1911 fan here too. Not old or gimpy yet, but I prefer small CCWs, and I've found the Glock 42 to be my favorite.
The 1911A1 is heavy but so well balanced in the hand. Beretta 92 is too, but that one is too big for concealed carry.
You are a brave man, Hickok45. Pitting the 1911 against the Glock. Both have cult-like followings, lol.

Back in the day when we ran out of all eight rounds, our heavy 1911 45s made lethal butt end clubs.

82 Luft the greatest gift to man would be extended magazine for the 1911 or a drum magazine for it lol

Glock's are nice and all, but no other Pistol tops the 1911.
John Dietz I haven’t shot a paper target in years and I shoot my gun on the usual
John Dietz how bad do you have to be to miss all 15 shots?
Any firearm will take down a threat when it comes down to it. Some just may take more shots. I agree that you should just shot what you enjoy and don't worry about what others think. Your gun, your money, your life!
I suppose since 1911 Owners have less but more powerful shots, they have to make the most of their shots
John Dietz agreed

I carry my Remington 1911 R1S cocked and locked wherever I can and I love it. Regardless of capacity and size, I'm comfortable with it and that's what matters.
John Browning made the 1911 have an 8 round capacity, because he said anymore than 8 rounds of .45 ACP was too much power for a single man to yield.

Still, that dude in Austria who made curtain rods created what I believe is the best pistol one can find today and I have owned both 1911's and Glocks. 1911's are completely badass, glocks however are a modern day combat pistol. In this day and age i'd pick the modern combat pistol over the vintage, in practicality of course. I'd like to have one but it won't replace my striker fired guns as my go to.

Actually it does compare. Each gun has is *great* in it's own right. Get your head out of your ass, son.
According to you.
Adam Gold What is the reason "why the Army and the USMC do not want striker fired pistols?" Seriously.
Adam Gold
Agreed. They specifically demanded double strike capability. Since the Glock did not posses it, it did not qualify. I think probably the worst thing about the Glock is its ugliness :) Other than that, it is quite a good firearm.
Love it. I'm a 1911 guy. I have a lot of respect for the glocks but not my flavor. I can still say that they are great firearms.
I shoot / train 4-5 times a week. I haven’t shot that much Ammo in the entire past year! Being prudent with the Ammo isn’t nearly as much fun. Dammit.

I love the comments on Hickok45. No negativity. It's just friendlies being friendly
There are videos of a 9 year old girl using a Glock just fine though haha

Your gun might jam, while the Glock is way more reliable.
Overall, all things being equal, the Glock owner has all the cards and is more likely to bring down the 1911 owner.

I love 1911's , but if Im going to carry, I'm giving the nod to the Glock because of weight, and capacity.
This is just my experience and preference, yours may be different.
,
I've shot both the 1911 and the glock, and the 1911 just felt better, the glock is a good gun, but I'll go with a 1911 any day of the week

I own several firearms, glock and 1911's. But I prefer the 1911 as my EDC. So reliable for years!
I remember when the Glocks first came out, people sneered at them as plastic guns etc but they really won people over.
Use both, love both.

I don't think I've ever seen him shoot so much in one video. I Love it!!!
Hickok is such a good shot
I just never get tired of hearing this good man laugh and have a good time! =)
I like both of them. I shoot a little better with the 1911 but I like the capacity of the Glock.
But you shoot better with the 1911, so reload and sell that Glock. 😅
The 1911 is the B-52 of handguns. On top of its, longevity, it just looks good too.
John Crow what about the malfunctions?
jeff ouellette It doesn't matter to me, I am not allowed a functioning 1911 unless it is a LBP (Long barrelled pistol 22lr) I just love the aesthetics of the gun - If I could get a real one though, I would probably go for a custom job,.
Anyone notice that bird at the beginning that was just screaming? Lol.
Sounds more like a treefrog calling.
Those are frogs.
Ah, we don't have tree frogs where I live.
unitedgray
We don't have lions where we live either, dummy.
those VW bus doors are worth a good amount of ammo
I’ve shot both extensively and carried both as a patrol officer in a major city in the US. I collect and shoot 1911’s in competition. My 1911’s are my go to guns. My Glock 21’s stay in my cars cause I’d rather my Glocks get stolen than my 1911’s. John Browning invented dozens of popular weapons, guns we still use today, he was the Einstein of the gun world. Gaston Glock invented one gun. There’s no comparison for me. One is a tool one is a work of art.
Sometimes I think you're just having way too much fun love it
I have a 1911 and I'm old school and I love having a hammer. Not only do I want to know my gun is safe I want to know yours is too. We all know that one guy...lol
I'll take the Glock 21 any day of the week. Thank you, hickok45!
I think all the dislikes were due to zero 1911 failures hahaha. Good video
29.30 slide failed to stay open when empty. 🥺 sorry bud cant beat glock reliability
@@wis1024 wtf dude this comment was made 7 years ago get out of here
@Nate Z I could say the same man hahaha
I love the woodland creatures in the background. You can tell they're used to the gunfire.
You said "Maybe I oughta get me one of them belt-fed kinda things, you know".... Please do!(and film it) Thanks Hickok
I'm not a gun guy, but if I have choice to pick any one of them I would definitely pick 1911. 1911 just looks excellent 😁
Got'em both and proud of it!!
The biggest difference between a Glock, and a 1911 is, a Glock will never, ever be found in my gun cabinet. Ever.
Thank you for doing all this hard work.
I have learned so much from your videos.
Keep up the great work!
I want that wwII colt
"Come and take it"
Lol
yeah its awsome
Hickcock you don’t have to rack the slide ever time you touch the damn gun.... good lord
Actually, you do. Whenever you lay one down, it's then "loaded" until checked.
hickok45 that’s checking it maybe once or twice too make sure lol if you go back and watch your videos especially with you and the ranch guy you rack the slide at least 200 times is that checking if it’s empty?
hickok45 other then that your a hell of a shot sir
Like them both, but nothing feels better and sturdier in the hand than a 1911, for me. Thanx.
Lol at 0:35 I yelled *YEAH BUDDY!!* and Hicock proceeds to say "yeah buddy", ooh what a coincidence! hahaha
