Mine is 2011 and I replaced the battery and alternator wished I watched this first! Can I get the same relay ? Or do I have to get in there first to get the no of the relay .... wanting to try it myself lol
Thanks for this video brother. I had just fixed my 2009 Dodge Caliber SXT yesterday. Same damn issue. I was like, "why did Dodge ever put that relay box below the headlight?" Nonetheless, this video helped me fix the starting issue. Cheers from Calgary.
Did it make a clicking sound at least when you turned the key to start? I’m having this problem happen to me sometimes. But it still makes the relay clicking sound when I go to start. So does that mean I need to replace my relay like you and he did?? Thanks Brother. 😅
@@Thegadgetest I am not sure if my long answer will answer your short question, but when my Caliber's relay died and before I did the relay replacement (which was an abhorrent but fulfilling experience LOL), the starter motor system no longer made any clicking sounds, which really surprised me. Because in my experience, if your car has a weak battery (for my case, the car's battery was fairly new), the starter motor system should still make clicking sounds to signify that there is minimum electric current flowing to the starter motor system. So I thought, this was not a battery issue (check voltage is good). I had a stroke of luck because the day before the relay finally laid to rest, I was still able to start up the Caliber and drove like normal, made a few stops around the city, and was still able to drive back to my underground parking stall. Albeit on the relay's final day, I noticed that the starter motor system had difficulty getting an electric current to power up (make clicking sounds) during my first few attempts of positioning the key to the ignition position. I had dismissed the thought that it was a starter motor system issue, because in my experience even though you have a bad starter motor system, it should still make weak clicking sounds when electric current is present (unless the starter motor system's wiring is physically cut/damaged). But then I noticed that there were no clicking sounds anymore when you position the key to ignition position. That's when I had a "feeling" that it was a relay issue, which it ultimately was. I'd say that a great sign and symptom that you probably need a relay replacement is if you put your key to the ignition position and there are no clicking sounds made (considering that your car battery is good and your stater motor system is good). The old relay was so badly corroded, that one of its prongs was "eaten" by the corrosion process. I am not a licensed mechanic and I am not giving professional advice, but I hope this gives you an idea.
That particular relay is the PCM ignition power relay . PCM relay always has power on pin 1 . When you turn your Key on the security is recognized and the security module powers pin 2 . If you have a NO Crank / No Start at the same time it could be that relay . Even with Key on if you cross the starter it still will not start .
@@charlotteg192 yeah I wasn't sure if the wheel would still turn without power. I had the battery checked twice and the alternator checked once and AutoZone told me the battery was good, and then the other place told me the alternator was good and that the battery wasn't holding a charge...So I figured maybe Autozone was wrong and spent $200 on a battery, I had to take out a lone to buy it because I'm a Veteran living on $1500 a month. 6 months later I got to crank up the car and it won't turn over, so I think damn the battery is dead again...but it's not but a few days from being 6 months old....so I removed the terminals from it and it snowed so I waited about 2 days for it to warm up and the snow to start thawing and so I go back out there to see if it would still turn on it and it wouldn't. So not knowing anyone with jumper cables I had my neighbor take me to go back to where I bought the battery. The guy followed me home and connected a battery with terminals on it he says will jump of his huge truck, but when I open the door and put in the key nothing turned on at all....not even the dashboard, no clicking nothing. He told me it was obviously something else other then the battery....If the battery had completely died or was damaged would it still do this? He insisted that I have a tow truck haul it up there so he could run some tests on it, but I have a feeling he may just be trying to scam me. So I'm going to take the battery up to Autozone again and have them test it.

our 2010 periodically will not start. So we either open hood and close it, or move the shifter nob and eventually we get it to start. Nothing works this time. We took the front bumper off and found that hidden jewel where the relays are. The one on the back left corner-to which you mentioned was the problem on yours- is dirty. So we went ahead and ordered another one. We will have it in tomorrow and hope that it works. If not we are at a loss.
Hand jam thru the funder gap without pulling the bumper took me 10 mins. Just gotta pull the two fucky 7mm(I think) bolts and pull the fender back, then squeeze on in there. Also, that relay spot is stupid as hell and can get rusted out. Check for damage to the relay WIRES as well.
what you have not done is describe the symptom well, this is why there are so many questions, you should clarify what you mean by no start . 1. is the starter motor turning ie is the car car cranking but not " firing" as in the engine starting. 2. Is the starter motor not even turning ie the car seems dead and makes no sounds. if the starter motor wont fire up that could be something completely different. from reading all the comments abut this relay it sounds like it could be the starter relay so the starter motor is not even turning but it would be good if you could clarify. Thanks
I'm going through the same situation now, running fine on Sunday, Monday morning would not start..cranks but no start. Code said it was the camshaft sensor, which I replaced both, but nothing. Also changed the crankshaft sensor, and nothing. It's getting fuel, and all fuses are good. My buddy thinks it's the computer that's bad, but after watching your video, I'm wondering if it could be the relay you are talking about?? The codes showing up are --- P2088, P0010, P2090, P0013. Any thoughts before I have to buy a new computer?
