I left out a few hair coverings such as hats and turbans, choosing to focus on the most popular hair coverings in my community and among other Orthodox Jews that I know. I will say that it is not uncommon for hats to be worn with a wig or a fall, often a beanie or a ball cap. As always, Thank you for watching!

I'm Jewish and didn't grow up in a Jewish home..my mom loved wearing wigs and head scarves. I never understood why because we were " closet" Jews. My dad was a Baptist and mom was Jewish and Native American. I'm learning about my Jewish heritage and how much my mom was practicing Judaism without knowing it.

Hating a religion is not racism. It’s not liking an ideology that another person prescribes to. It’s like how many people hate Trumpers who wear the MAGA hat like some religious covering. It’s because the hat means something just as the scarf does, and people could not agree with the idea behind it. Now, that doesn’t mean that they should be rude but it’s not racism or any other oppression. It’s a difference in opinion.

It made me incredibly sad when you mentioned that you felt you needed to wear wigs more to avoid anti-Semitism.
On the subject of wigs, if your wig is synthetic, dying it is problematic. Even if it's real hair dying it lighter is a project. It will be an adventure either way.
Since the original color is light it may take the gray dye but it will come out a different shade than what's on the box unless you bleach it white first.
Try the hair on the underside first to see how it looks.

Hey, I'm also catholic and I'd love to veil full time. I actually used to veil quite a lot (and still do) but not always and often (funnily enough) rather at home then in public, because especially here where I live (Poland) it's totally not a thing among Catholics (or anyone) and I don't want to confuse anyone. So I wanted to ask you - do you veil just in church or full time? And how do you explain it to people who ask you ( 1Cor 11 + modesty in general, I presume) 😉 Plus do you know more head-covering Catholics where you live or are you more alone in this :-) ?

@@waleria2586 Hi there! I know many Catholic ladies who veil! My hometown is near Mexico and it's a more common practice among Mexican Catholics. Now I live near Korea and it seems even more common amongst Korean ladies, nearly all of them are veiled in mass. For myself, I only veil in church, especially in the presence of the tabernacle or the eucharist. When I get asked about it, I give a few different answers. One is that all the women I admire the most are veiled (the Blessed Virgin, Saint Thérèse, etc.). Another is that veiling is a symbol of something precious and holy, as shown by how we veil the alter. Lastly, my favorite explanation is that it makes me feel humble and puts me in the right space mentally for worship.

I just found your channel last night after I got hold from work and I’m really enjoying it so far! I grew up in a very strictly orthodox (Ashkenazi) family/community, so learning and seeing how things work in a Sephardi home are so interesting to me. I personally find the topic of Tznius very interesting because of how stringent it was in my family and how diverse it’s interpretation can be. For example, my mother had her head shaved after the Chasuna and wears a sheitel with a beret/small hat or a kertchif for the most part, whereas my friends wife wears a fallback sheitel with a headband like you do sometimes! I’m now part of a “regular” orthodox /modern orthodox Shul and again the level of modesty changes again.. Its so amazing that many woman enjoy and find empowerment in covering their hair. Thank you for the content!

I really apppreciate your candor. Personally, i have such a challenge with my big head, finding "a good scarf", getting a good fit, wearing something that feels right and good to my scalp. Lately though, i've been very excited to get " my Rosie the Rivitor" on!! Just love tying a square scarf up front and center and tucking in the loose ends. It helps to fold my arm infront or bend them in the classic fashion! Let's get this done Rosie!!📣💋💙

I just discovered your channel. I prefer covering my hair with tichels and volumizers. I have not had any issues where I work (in Brooklyn, no less) from any employer. I even wear them to weddings, layering metallic scarves with plain. I've had Chasidic ladies ask me where I get them for their daughters. I also love preties - my newest ones even have a strip of velvet in front now. It's the friction that keeps them on. I love it.
When I travel (back when traveling was a thing), I cover my hair with berets. This helps me fit in better on the road, and is very useful for flying because they're usually happy to search my head with the beret on, and they're very comfortable on planes. As you can probably tell, I don't wear sheitels at all. My husband doesn't like them and I keep thinking of better ways to spend the money. Also, every time I come close to buying one, something happens. So I'm married over 30 years and been covering out of my house for most of it, and the only wigs I've ever owned were novelties for Purim. But if I did, I'd totally add some gray as well. Unless I decided to wear a burgundy one.

My father is a Reform Rabbi and I have never heard that Reform Jews don’t have Hebrew Names … at the Bris the boy’s Hebrew name is used and the girl’s Hebrew name is given at her baby naming ceremony and the Hebrew Names are used when they are called up for Aaliyah for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. I was not given a “Hebrew Name” as my name is Hebrew as are my sisters but that was my parents choice. As a Conservative Jew I do not cover my hair except for in the synagogue, and the long standing joke amongst the other Teachers and Youth Directors was that all the single Men knew who was single based on what girls/woman had their hair covered during services lol

As a traditional Catholic, I wear whatever I please. We’re required to veil for Mass, but I sometimes like to veil for everyday use. That way, if I pop into Church or have reason to hear Mass unplanned, I’m set to go with matching head covering. So far as people staring or name-calling, that’s their problem! If they don’t like how I’m dressed, they can look somewhere else! Living in a large city with people of all religions and cultures, it’s rarely a problem.
