I know exactly where this is ❤ I'm so happy to see the community highlighted!! I'm an African American woman who raised my children in Rosedale, Queens, but Five towns, Lawrence and Cedarhurst were central to their upbringing. We spent so many weekends on Central Ave and at Cedarhurst Park ❤❤ I love to see this
I do that too, but I’m not Jewish. I think my natural hair is kinda lame after my thyroid condition so I wear wigs and if you see my natural hair that means that I like you and feel comfortable around you. It’s rare to see my natural hair. My hair is Afro though.
Hi Sonya, You look great in short hair. It’s very perky and vibrant on you. Thank you for taking us into that store. I must say I pass it all the time, but always have been too intimidated to enter. Thank you for taking us into a world that we would never have been in before otherwise.
First and foremost Sonya, beauty comes from the inside out, and it shows through in you! Second it is awesome that you are a mom of five, wife to Mr. Prep, professional health care provider and yet you don’t lose yourself in those roles, and instead accentuate your individuality with amazing self care! Third, GET that lace wig with the shorter hair for summer! It was a great, care free, youthful look! You can be careful with it - just think of it as the most delicate puff pastry you cook on your channel and voila! PS Tell Mr. Prep not to be jealous as I am a gay jewish male, so therefore I am well qualified to dispense beauty advice heheheheheh! Hugs, Michael!
I appreciate the in-depth information. How we all manage our lives is our own. I find it educational, leading more people to be more respectful because they understand better.
I'm a Christian woman. I lost my hair 80% a year ago due to illness. It's growing back now but will take another year to fully grow back. I used wigs the first time in my life & it was really uncomfortable at first, emotionally. Now, I'm used to it & like trying different wigs & styles. Thank you for making & sharing this video.
but that‘s the difference; you had to wear a wig due to illness. can‘t understand women who have healthy, beautiful hair & covering them the whole life with a wig, which is very unhealthy for the scalp too, just for the men. hair are not that private… thanks god i‘m christian & free… god created me with hair on my head, not needing a wig. 🙏🏻 ✝️ 🩷 john 14:6 jesus answered: I am the way and the truth and the life.
I love this fun change of content. As a non-Jewish Black woman it was interesting to learn why & how you use wigs due to faith. Even hearing the lingo change was cool. I'm used to hearing lace front and unit (i.e. wig). I don't get some of these comments maybe because I'm Adventist and not Jewish🙈Anyway, I really enjoyed this and looking to buy from them online since I live in Chicagoland and/or visit when traveling near their store location. People wear wigs for many different reasons outside of religion (i.e.health, fashion, protective styling or during cancer treatment) so I hope others can respectfully see that you are bringing business to this company while teaching us/me something. You look great in long hair but maybe play with the short hair for hubby😉🤭🫣Sending virtual hugs to you sis😘
HI, non-Jewish Black woman🥰!!!!! it is lovely to see your comment. As a jewish woman I can tell you that I don't cover my hair with a wig, but with a head cover- like fabric or some sort of scarf. I find it ridicouls (?) correct (?) (live in israel and speak hebrew thats why) to cover my hair with hair.... it is much more beautiful amd attractive than my own hair, so i wonder how it is faith....
I have lupus and it’s caused me to lose my hair right in the middle, I look like a Benedictine Monk! 😊I have got a couple of wigs but they don’t look good, now I’ve watched this I’m going to find a professional hairdresser that specialises in wigs, and get something that I will like. TY Sonya ❤
I've always had such an interest in the culture and how wholesome family is. The covering of your hair and the meaning behind it is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this particular experience.
One thing about having to cover your head, whether it's with scarves or wigs, you actually have a lot of styling options. In many ways, more than a lot of us who don't wear head coverings. You don't have to worry about ruining your natural hair by various styling techniques, and you're actually keeping your real hair healthy by keeping it covered and protected. Your new wig looks beautiful. I love that your hubby liked it, too. :)
Absolutely LOVE the short hair wig! It is so youthful looking. And the one you tried on with highlights looked amazing on you too. I enjoyed this video very much.
It can be very confusing to people why you would wear hair to cover your hair. On a practical level, Jews have always been persecuted and an easy way to avoid harassment and violence is to blend in and not make it obvious that you are covering your hair as a Jew. A beautiful spiritual reason I heard is that when a woman gets married, the kedusha (holiness) of the marriage rests on the crown of the wife's head, and covering it (with anything, including a wig!) protects and shields the kedusha ❤ I always thought I would wear only mitpachot but I just bought a fall 😱 I'm planning to just wear it for weddings and nice shabbosim, but I'm kind of obsessed with it?!?! I never thought I'd own a wig I'm freaking out (you could even say I'm wigging out! 😂)
I never think I can wear a wig either, we are mennonite and that is not a thing we do, we always wore head veils but I am curious, do you wear a wig and then a covering/scarf both? That would seem really hot and itchy.
@@pommom-cm1ej personally I wear one or the other. On a daily basis I wear just a scarf, but for nice occasions I'll wear a fall with a headband. I know some women will wear both and I don't know how they do it hahaha
I never realized you wear a wig. So natural. Informative too because I thought only Hassidic Jewish women wore wigs. Thanks for the education! You are amazing.
All the wigs look great on you but the short bob is so flattering! Thought the sleek wig with hair band suited you well and the lighter colours were very warming for your face. Thanks for sharing this important part of a Jewish woman’s life, really interesting!
Sonya, thank you for posting this interesting and informative video. The shorter, mid-length bob wig looked beautiful on you! I began wearing my hair in a blunt-cut style when I was 16 and have kept it for 60 years, with only a few layered cuts on a whim.
Thanks, Sonya for the wig information. You would be gorgeous with a paper bag on your head ... but the wig b/t chin and shoulder length (2nd?) is perfect for your delicate features and length is not pulling down your face. ❤
Sonya, I love your content. You are always so upbeat and your family appears happy. I am not Jewish, but have recently thought about wigs due to thinning hair. Thank you for this information. I watched another of your episodes on wigs and head coverings which I enjoyed very much as well. Thank you for sharing your life and family with us. Much love from Texas! Oh, and the shorter wig was fabulous on you!
You are amazing Sonya im new to your channel and I enjoy learning new things about other culture and religions. I love how united and together your family is. A beautiful blessing.
You look wonderful in all of them, but my favorite is the short one. Thank you so much for taking us along on this great experience. Customs and rituals are so interesting and for, me, spiritually uplifting. Todah.
I’m a Protestant, but I’ve always liked Orthodox Jewish women, not only because of their spirituality, also because of their modest dress - tzniut. Many Orthodox Jewish women are beautiful and elegant, almost like queens.
All the wigs looked stunning on you, I really loved the chin - length bob, it was so cute! Very interesting and informative. This video could also be we very helpful for someone who needs a wig for non-religious reasons, such as hair loss due to alopecia or chemotherapy.
Sonya, I would love it if you could make a video like this but for older women. I have thin hair so I can cover it with a larger base topper. However, at some point I will need to transition to wigs. Being in my 60’s, I want a wig that’s not so dense as to look fake for my age. I know there are other women like me who could really use some guidance. Thanks. I loved you in the shorter wig. Maybe when you are ready for a change.
Really enjoyed this video, loved you in a short sheitel...looked awesome...I have sheitels, but I don't wear them often...I find headscarves, hats, etc more frequently...for work I need to wear a headscarf or hat...Shavua Tov and Chodesh Tov! With love from Israel
