Also, I could literally write an essay on the butchering of paleontology in this episode. My personal headcanon is that the dinosaurs here were altered by the supernatural properties of Gravity Falls to look like how people expect dinosaurs to look, rather than like how actual dinosaurs look.

I love this episode. It's very much a master class in how to have a stupid character screw something up by being stupid, or a greedy character screw something up by being greedy, without making them come across as utterly unsympathetic for it. Soos doesn't come across as at all malicious or too dumb to live, just clumsy and bad at thinking things through, and Grunkle Stan's actions, though a massive screw up, are even slightly justified (An animal that is going to go around the house chewing on things really should be kept outside) even if he does end up taking it to the point where it endangers Waddles, he clearly regrets it, and, most importantly, both of them end up coming through and fixing their mistakes in the end. Soos saves the group not once but twice, and Stan PUNCHES A PTERODACTYL IN THE FACE to save Waddles from danger. They both do screw stuff up, but it never feels too openly malicious, and they both end up making it up in the end.

While I much prefer modern-style dinos & the like in media (E.g. Furthermore (in reference to Stan saying, "They're just big lizards"), none of the above are lizards. Both archosaurs & lepidosaurs (which includes true lizards) evolved from a common reptile ancestor. -7:16: Unfortunately, referring to non-dinos as dinos is a common mistake in popular media, including the Jurassic World series. Reptile is a term that’s getting phased out for the most part. Dinosaurs are archosaurs, sharing a close common ancestor with crocodiles. The closest cousin to dinosaurs are pterosaurs.
Sigh. Waddles is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, known for doing animal voices (so is Frank Welker btw). The Neil deGrasse Tyson thing is he is a guest voice in a future episode. It hasn’t happened yet. It’ll make sense when it does. Just be patient.
