Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I’m your host Paul and this video we’re breaking down Invincible

I am so glad to be back talking about this series and season 3 has a lot to look forward to. I read through the comics about once a year and if you think things have been rough so far, phooo you aint seen nothing yet.
Season 3 has a tonne of things that tie into the comics and throughout this video we’ll be breaking it all down.
As is usual with Amazon we also have a 3 episode premiere, so there’s a hell of a lot to talk about.
Now episode 1 primarily contains the plot points from Issue 46 and 48. However we also get some additional moments from Issues 40, 42, 44 and also 49.
Now we begin Mark taking on the Giant. Having featured in the series before, he’s now making his return from a moment that feels like it’s loosely pulled from Issue 57. This is the second encounter with the character BUT it has a big big difference. There Mark was teamed up with The Astounding Wolfman. I wont go too much into what happened with him as they could adapt it in the show but Mark easily handles it on his own.
You might also notice that his costumes different as well. The blue and black has been shown in the marketing and trailers so I dont feel bad discussing that but yeah, you can probably guess this happens much later in the run.
We also see that Cecil and the gang are actually trying to find a cure for his condition. This is a big change up from the work as there he was just kind of a character to beat on.

Did anyone else notice what they did there with having the new Guardians of the Globe watch Mark ruthlessly rip apart all those Reanimen in the exact same spot where his father massacred the previous Guardians?
For real it was 100% intentional in my opinion and they definitely showed what the other heroes could do to the reanimen compared to what Mark did…pretty sure he’s done the red rush head smash a couple times and they made it front and center

Yep , then they did the exact same with Oliver . Definitely intentional .
I love how ep.3 starts with making the audience empathize with the villains and ends with Debbie explaining that same perspective to Oliver.
That was definitely a great addition, but it feels like they were grasping a bit by trying to make Invincible a villain. I mean they did threaten lives and rob a bank.

The juxtaposition of Tether Tyrant not wanting to hurt Oliver because he’s a kid and then Oliver killing the Mauler twins is really good
Kid Omni boy just graduated from Robin to Red Hood in a single episode lol.
If it’s even half as good as the comic issues S3 is covering, the last two episodes are going to be absolutely fucking spectacular - that’s likely why reviewers didn’t get them.
This season has the potential to be the best across the entire show.

Have to say, I'm on Cecil side. He's giving Darkwing a chance at redemption and using the ReAnimen do to good. And while the device in Mark's head is extreme is arguably justifiable, like imagine if Mark got possessed. Meanwhile Mark is being a self righteous hypocrite. He gave his mass murdering dad a second chance and even fought with him last season against the 3 Viltrumites. Cecil is doing the same thing with Sinclair
Not trying to invalidate your opinion to anything,but Mark only really worked with his Dad to stop the viltrumites from ravaging an entire species to the point of extinction. If he didn’t help,his brother would have died,there wasn’t much of an option.
Pretty sure they insinuated that Darkwing was schizophrenic in season 2 so it's a bit stiff for Mark to say he deserved to be in prison, especially now since his mind is reformed from conditioning. Sinclair and the reanimen are a necessary evil imo, considering more viltrumites are on their way. Mark knows this, but yet forgets about the billions of lives that are at risk from the Viltrum empire. Probably not the time to change the system and be self righteous but hey, at least he's invincible
@Isaacsmith.78 And it's the same with Cecil and Sinclair. The ReAnimen are being created to aide the Guardians and to help protect the earth from the Viltrumites. And we literally see them doing this when they save all the heroes from Doc Seismic's trap along with Drakwing 2. It's also clear using the ReAnimen are a last resort fir Cecil. They are only used in dire situations. Or when other heroes can't be used. On top of that Cecil hates Sinclair. He's made that very clear.
Cecil also said that Sinclair and Darkwing went under extensive Psychological reprogramming, so the GDA manipulated them both against their will to do the “right thing” mark isn’t wrong.
@@ryansweeney09 i think cecil using darkwing is justified. Darkwing definitely had some mental issues, and after rehabilitation giving him a second chance is justified, especially considering how useful his power is. I mean in theory if he can catch a viltrumite off guard he could just trap them in the shadow realm and not go in again.
Sinclair i think is a bit less justified for cecil... I mean dude was kidnapping and torturing random people for his own enjoyment, and considering mark saw his torture affect his friends first hand, I think mark is completely justified in crashing out over that. Also the reanimen really aren't that good against viltrumites i mean when they go all out the reanimen get torn to shreds.
I love the tonal shift in this season. Very excited for the future episodes!
Get ready for episode 8, i have read the series and know whats gonna happen, i aint gonna say anything else except its the second best fight in the series and was my favorite till i finished to comics, and that says a lot

I like the character development of Cecil, similar one we saw in the comics.
It really justifies his actions. The guardians split was super interesting as well.
Though I think they need to buff The Immortal and Samson both plot and power wise, they are the members of the previous guardians team.
I rlly like samson's maturity and think he needs to voice his takes more, like on how he implied immortal's way of having left the guardians argument was a mistake. but immortal's whole whole one-note character has gotten old ngl
The whole beginning of the series we see Mark training and getting jacked, two seconds later, he's getting his ass whooped by giant centipedes. Are we ever gonna see him not struggle?

@@oscar3153 The only explanation I have is he isn't taking the centipedes seriously. That was something I noticed during this season - Mark is STILL immature after all the battles he has had,EVEN after Nolan told him to fight properly when they double teamed the Viltrumites in Season 2.
Instead of finishing opposition quickly and efficiently he tends to take longer than necessary. You see this from S3 E1 all the way to S3 E3. The DOI thieves,Multi-Paul,Doc Seismic,The Mauler Twins and so many more enemies that he could have finished in 5 minutes took much longer to do so.
What a SHOW ! Does such a good job,not only with the action but also the human sides of all the characters,the intro in ep 3 does a perfect job with this and also shows how poverty and crime are so interlinked.

Bro they cooked so hard first 3 episode where insane , I was afraid it was going to be too rushed or too slow but damn the way Mark snaps ,the backstory of Cecil that explains is personna and the Oliver arc this is soo good not just action but the stories too.

Great episode! Few things though, DA Sinclair was recast in season 2, and Oliver also does go by Kid Omni-man in the comics. Iirc, Mark floats around the name "Omni-Boy" but Oliver vetoes it specifically because he wants to honor Nolan

I appreciate how faithful they stay to the comics. The industries biggest issue is that they love making comic books movies but try turning them into everything else.

Idk if anyone has noticed but every fight mark is in he tends to pullback a lot but unless his family is involved or someone he cares for he goes berserk. Like with angstrom he could go off and have future regrets
I noticed this too and it annoys me that he's holding back. I know that he's not trying to kill his enemies but he could easily stop the Mauler Twins but all he did was dodge their attack. I mean what is he trying to achieve. Oliver easily killed the Mauler Twins and he's only like 8?

When Nolan returns to Earth, I want to see the other characters in the universe call him a hypocrite since mark will fight alongside Nolan and forgive him for his deeds and yet he demonises Cecil for his actions
That's sort of the whole point of the interaction I think.

16:35 Doug Bradley is set to voice Brit later this season, when the episodes launched this morning the full cast was revealed including confirmation that Jonathan Banks will be voicing Conquest. Amazon quickly hid this after an hour of it being publicly visible but you can still find screenshots from people who spotted it as well.

Unpopular opinion, Cecil is doing what anybody would do faced with a character that if they really wanted to could destroy the Earth just like Omni man could he’s trying to prevent what Omni man did. How are you going to blame him for what he’s doing taking every precaution possible look at how every hero even grouped up together ends up getting whooped, but Mark is so much more powerful than them all what would happen realistically if Mark lost his sanity or somehow someone gained control of him wouldn’t you want someone to try to control him to try to kill him to try anything at least or are you just putting 100% faith in Mark saying that he’s a good person I mean, look at the other versions of him and other universes, where he turns evil, I agree Cecil could have a better approach to things, but he’s doing more than anybody else would, not only that, but the only reason why Mark is probably still alive is because of Cecil going against Mark‘s wishes and having the Reanimen come, save the day and break them out of the bubbles and using dark wing, if it wasn’t for him, literally I believe the Earth would have been destroyed with Dr. seismic explain to me right now if you think the world would be better without Cecil and what it would look like take away everything that he has done or is doing right now how does the world change? in my mind, he’s 100% justified.

30:42 not having ANY dialog during this scene, for quite a while, and having sad music, was genius writing. It was VERY impactful… made them very relatable and makes Mark seem like the bad guy

I love how Black Samson says the Guardians are a family and will never break apart, but then in the next episode they break up.
Also how Mark survived 7 minutes completely submerged in lava, but Oliver went nuts the second Molten Maniac attacks Mark.

Cecil is the only smart person in the show by far. Everyone else including mark view the world in black and white Cecil knows how to navigate the trenches like a man. If you were in a position to defend the world you’d take every precaution necessary no matter how people feel. Imagine Superman walking towards you with intensity and you are a regular man you need to defend yourself at all costs and the white room is the only way to go about it.

i'm a little confused about Invincible's frustration with the reanimen - they were used when he was fighting omniman - why would he be surprised they're still being used?
Mark was in a coma for a while after that and may not remember but I think this recent outburst is supposed to lay out Mark's hypocrisy and show that his new power is corrupting him.
Mark didn't see that part he never saw the Rihanna Man fight Omni man because army man ripped him apart before the two of them had even met

I’m kind of completely on Cecil’s side. In every other universe we have seen mark turns evil. Cecil knows this and is simply playing the odds with a non lethal take down method. Darkwing is being rehabilitated as is saint clair which is a better way to handle threats especially since a single villtrimite will decimate the earth they need to throw everything at them. Mark upon seeing his dad gave him a hug and his dad killed more people than Sinclair and darkwing combined

I'm sorry, but Cecil is literally using a torture device to keep Mark on a leash. Maybe if Mark was going around killing innocent people, Cecil would have been justified to use it, but he's literally just doing to try to force Mark to do what he wants

You have to understand when Mark learned of the news of him using the villains to help. He was so angry and at that point, Cecil didn’t know what he was going to do. He had to use that device and obviously there’s a good reason why he has it in his head. I agree with that, but if you were faced in a situation where you somehow managed to piss off Superman, you’d have to remind him not to do anything crazy or rash. Mark definitely has a problem seeing things any other way and that’s his biggest weakness

Personally I don’t see why they had to make those two criminals in the third episode gay compared to the comics, but whatever, as its just part the current state of society when it comes to entertainment media tragically.

I do hope that whenever the show swings around to the multiverse war, that Kirkman pays Larsen and McFarlane whatever they may need to have Savage Dragon and Spawn show up (bonus points if they have more to do than in the actual comic and interact with Mark, even more bonus points for another Keith David Spawn performance).

Im on Mark's side: Cecil instead of trying to calm down or simply reason with mark using his past experiences, showing him that rehabilitation REALLY does work, he went to the ReAnimen, something he KNEW Mark hated and started to escalate. I can't say Mark was fully in the right here, I think he crashed out slightly. I do think he is more justified as he was literally tortured with the device implanted in him. I think this could have all been prevented if Cecil was like "Sit down with me mark, do you know how I got this "scar" (goes over backstory)" and Mark would realize how some people can do good and change.
Tl;dr: Mark had a justifiable crashout while Cecil could have just talked to him and prevented this.

Multi-Paul did say “it’s about time”, in his cell, when he heard the commotion outside. Wouldn’t that basically be him doing the same thing you said is absent there? I haven’t read the comics but that’s exactly what I understood he meant when saying that.

Yeah Invincible Cooked Once again and we’re feasting! I’m really enjoying the new Season so far.
Also I’m kinda siding with Cecil about Darkwing, kid was facing some mental trauma since in universe it’s not that long since his Mentor was brutally murdered by Mark’s Planet conquering Soldier father
So Mark is kinda hypocritical for saying Darkwing deserves to stay locked in prison, as if he’s no better than Sinclair who is Far worse than Darkwing since Sinclair kidnapped and psychologically tortured innocent people before turning them into cyborgs.

Just so everyone knows; that first incident they showed, in New Mexico, was not around a major city (if it was based on real life cities). Not even close to one of the only 3 major cities. I actually think the Sinclair not having finished the failsafe panel is going to come to fruition in the rest of the season, as Cecil did try to call the Re-Animen off but they continued attacking. This meant if Mark hadn't continued killing them it would have been clear that they were beyond his control, which I think would have been a key turning point for him but instead during the chaos of battle it just seemed like Mark was out of control.

An easter egg im not seeing many people discuss is season 3 episode 1 timestamp 38:41 you can hear the terminator theme as the "reanimen" punch the huge centipede like monster.
