This movie scared the life out of me for years. Definitely check out the original. It's funny, I actually used to make that death-rattle sound all the time as a kid. To hear it in a horror movie...yeah, it freaked me out. It took me a while to realize Kayako makes that noise because her neck was broken.
Same I’d freak out my friends all the time I’m a huge horror movie fan so the death rattle and Jason “ma, ma, ma, kill, kill, kill” was something I repeated often.😂
...when it debuted & to this day I still get the scary chills at my fave scenes! And yeah, I perfected the famous death-rattle ASAP, still use it as a phone greeting when the time is right! Cool...
So the reason the film ends like that is because there is no solution. Once you enter the house, the curse attaches to you until it takes you. The reoccurring theme in the Grudge AKA Ju-on franchise is that none of the films end well. The director actually said that the two American films were sequels to the Japanese films that were released first. the father isn’t really shown because he killed himself after he killed Toshio and his mother causing only them two to have a grudge toward the living. Toshio sounds like a cat because the father drowned him and the cat in the same tub after he had doubts about him being his child. His mother makes that noise because her husband literally snapped her neck and that’s the last sound she made before she died. I feel like the Japanese version( the actual first film) does a good job explaining everything a little better.
This movie HAUNTED me as a kid as well as the sequel. I couldn't sleep in the dark for so long. Demon and ghost/curse movies scare me because you can't get away from them. Like in this movie, as soon as anyone enters the house, they are screwed no matter how far they are from it. Then when she burned the house instead of breaking the curse, she freed it from the limitations of that house so now no one is safe.
I slept with my parents for some time and then slept with with light on with slow music and then some time with just lights on thats how much it terrified me😅
That’s in the American version. In the Japanese version , you don’t NEED to go in the house to be cursed. You just need to encounter an already cursed person..
Sam Raimi is such a horror fanatic, he liked the original so much that when he decided to remake it , he got the director of the original, gave him a Hollywood budget and just let him direct his own movie again , and the result was solid as you saw .
Sam RULES! Maybe the “The Ring 2” wouldn’t been better if they gave the Ringu director FULL creative control! But they failed. That’s why the Grudge and Grudge 2 work. Also Grudge 2004 still has deleted scenes Takeshita Shimizu wanted to keep in..
This movie legit traumatized me - I couldn't sleep without the light on for like two weeks straight and forget about going down stair wells if they weren't fully lit. I confess I watched this reaction without looking at the actual movie lol. I can't handle it.

The American remake of the Grudge series wasn’t bad, despite the same Japanese director directing it. However, I would prefer the original Japanese production. The Ring and Dark Water are remakes on par with their originals. Yes, there was a Japanese movie titled *Sadako vs. Kayako* (2016) that featured a crossover between the iconic characters from *Ringu* (Sadako) and *Ju-on* (Kayako). It was a supernatural horror film directed by Kōji Shiraishi. The movie pits the vengeful spirits from these two famous horror franchises against each other. The premise is centered around two women who inadvertently find themselves cursed by both spirits, leading to a clash between Sadako and Kayako.
The thing I love the most about Asian cinema is, some times the ghost has a point and you can understand why it's mad. So the fact the way to get rid of a ghost in Japan is respect it's boundaries and wait for it to move on. It needs time it's really pissed

So when she was getting on my nerves, I'd just do what we called "the Grudge noise" and she'd vamoose. When I later told her I had the OG Japanese version to watch at night, she ran out of the house, and I cackled like a damn witch. XD
If you were a kid during the early 2000s then you have memories of first two Grudge films scaring the living daylights out of you. As far as I’m concerned, there’s only two American grudge films. Let’s all pretend that the trash made after the first two don’t exist. However Japan has like six or seven films and all of them are good. The original Japanese director worked on the first two American films.
i’ve watched this movie so many time when i was a kid and a funfact about it, its that the dvd i had in the time showed us in the scene where the husband was hung, it appered toshio pushing his body (thats why his still in moviment) and he was actually hung on kayako’s hair
Did you know in Japan to counter Jason vs Freddy, they made Kayako vs Sadako. It's literally the tape from the ring makes it to the town where the grudge started from.
I remember seeing the 2nd one with my 8th grade bf at the theater and then 2 weeks later, our science teacher played the 1st one for us in class as a “free period.” Other classrooms could hear us screaming from next door. 😂
Also the original movies are fantastic. They have a thing with there being like 3 short films before the actual first feature length film. I've watched most of it and the vibes and creepyness is off the charts

You guys should watch Gattaca. Favorite movie since forever. Incredibly well written and thought provoking. Just saw a reactor do it and they dubbed it their favorite movie afterwards.
My sister was scarred for life by this movie when we were a teenagers, we saw it in theaters and she closed her eyes like, 90% of the movie. I saw she as terrified of it, and I thought it was hilarious because I did not find this jump scare movie that scary at all. It was more fun to me than scary. So when she was getting on my nerves, I'd just do what we called "the Grudge noise" and she'd vamoose. When I later told her I had the OG Japanese version to watch at night, she ran out of the house, and I cackled like a damn witch. XD
I need you guys to react to
“The Autopsy of Jane Doe”
Such an underrated horror movie.
Builds atmosphere like crazy.
And puts you on edge throughout
Hooray! This is a good scare! 😱
I love 1 and 2 . I've never wasted my time watching 3
i’ve watched this movie so many time when i was a kid and a funfact about it, its that the dvd i had in the time showed us in the scene where the husband was hung, it appered toshio pushing his body (thats why his still in moviment) and he was actually hung on kayako’s hair
There’s actually a remake of the this movie from 2020… it’s rated R, so there you go 😉
Did you know in Japan to counter Jason vs Freddy, they made Kayako vs Sadako. It's literally the tape from the ring makes it to the town where the grudge started from.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Horror movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Jaby! Please react to American Psycho with one of the ladies: Achara, Kristen, Steph, or all three!
Random question Jaby....you guys don't watch these movies on a laptop do you? It always looks like you're looking at something right up on you.
Certain sounds remind me of one missed call
One of the scariest movies ever
this was one of the first scary movies I enjoyed growing up, I used to make the croaky noise and scare myself lmao
I remember seeing the 2nd one with my 8th grade bf at the theater and then 2 weeks later, our science teacher played the 1st one for us in class as a “free period.” Other classrooms could hear us screaming from next door. 😂
- Just run away ❌
- stand and look into the eyes ✅
Also the original movies are fantastic.
They have a thing with there being like 3 short films before the actual first feature length film.
I've watched most of it and the vibes and creepyness is off the charts
