You are correct, that metal pins are important, especially for the space key. without that metal pin, the click balance isnt good. But I struggle to hook it back and left it without.😅

Do not spray alcohol on the membrane
a little isopropyl alcohol is fine to clean it
How long should you leave them put to dry if you’re not blow drying them?
you can simply use a towel or napkind to dry them. It wont take a long time

What did you use to take out the keys?
I used nail to take out the keys, because I dont have the keycap puller.
If you got good grip you can easily pull one key out in its section then pry the rest from underneath
