Would you ever do a taste test of the different kinds of ippodo?! Would love to hear some of the differences between each type. I’ve only tried their sayaka type so far.
I've only had ceremonial grade matcha once and it was the smoothest, sweetest, most vibrant, and aromatic matcha I've ever had. But I'm too poor to buy that so I stick with my $6 (probably) culinary grade big bag of matcha from a local Asian mart lmao. Put it in some milk with a tiny bit of sugar and it gets the job done (better than the crap that Starbucks tries to serve 🤮)
Starbucks’s matcha is awful and results may vary depending on who’s working…. I’ve tried it a few times and it was different and I was not impressed nor would get it again. In Florida Kahwa coffee does a pretty solid matcha latte for 6$ and it’s been my favorite from a coffee shop
Made myself a matcha to enjoy whilst watching this. This review was so thorough! Thanks for taking the time to do this for us : ) I love the e-book as well
The costco matcha is actually 20 for that bag now which I can tell this video is a bit old- but for anyone wondering sencha is 20 and not a bad option.
I personally recommend buying matcha from specialty tea shops, especially those who specialize in Japanese tea. They usually carry the good, ceremonial grade stuff and they also carry real, proper matcha. Most "Matchas" you see are just green tea powder, real matcha is made of young shadowed green tea leaves that are steamed, "deveined" and ground super finely. The green tea powders are usually made of just any old green tea. Nowadays there are a lot of online tea retailers and its a great chance to support small businesses. If you live in Europe there's also a great chance that you have a tea shop in your town.
Hi, I'm sorry to bother, but will you share the website(s) that you know of off the top of your head that share these principles of good Japanese matcha?
Update on Jade leaf. I was lazy one day and mixed it with my vitamix. Really getting air into it and the foam. Wow, i liked Jade leaf before and even better thru the blender.
Jade Leaf is my favorite. I have been drinking it now for about 8 years, and each time I tried something else, I always find my way back to Jade Leaf. I really feel my body soaks it up- I feel so good, just an overall healthier feeling within me. I do not know exactly what it does on an internal level, but I go by how I feel. And the taste, is perfect for me.
Hi I haven’t tried anything else. I do know that when I first started with Dr.Weil tea it gave me a pick up …. I don’t feel it like before. How much 1/2 teaspoon? Try different brand to see. Thanks🌻🎇
The one from Costco is absolutely fine. I have it everyday with oat milk. Not gritty or bitter. I’ve tried others on Amazon and it’s all the same. Twenty dollars for a bag is a great price.
If you enjoy the Costco matcha, try a higher quality matcha and you’ll be mind blown! 🤗As I said in the video several times though, what’s most important is that you enjoy what you’re drinking-taste is subjective. If you like that, you like that!
@@RedRangerOfficialWhat do you expect when you buy a 12oz bag for $16? If you want ceremonial grade you’ll pay $25-30 for a 1oz tin. For what it is the Costco everyday matcha is a very good value. It’s better than culinary grade and not as good as premium or ceremonial grade.
Thank you so much. I purchased the jet leaf organic ceremonial Matcha and I absolutely love it. It comes in a 10 but I also just purchased the one that you recommended. I’m so excited. I can’t wait to try the Emma. Thank you so much for taking the time to try and show us different brands of Matcha you’re amazing.💜✨
The one from Costco is not "Costco brand", it's actually its own brand, Sencha, that Costco carries. Sencha sells their products on their own site too. Also, it's about $20, not $50. It's also not gritty. I drink it every day and it's smooth if you mix it thoroughly. Lastly, my local Costco stopped carrying Sencha recently. They now stock Ito En brand matcha. About the same price.
Love this, would love to see a part 2!👍😊 I drink all of Pique’s black teas and their fermented Pu’er tea which I love! Not as crazy about their green teas, pretty bitter, and I like their matcha but I agree I don’t think it’s the best, and quite expensive. But the selling point for their teas and matcha is not only organic but they are all quadruple tested for molds and toxins, heavy metals, pesticides, radioactive isotopes, etc, which is really important for me because these toxins can be really prevalent in matcha teas, and any teas, even if they are organic. So is important to check for these. But my go to matcha for years has been Encha, they have all grades, their ceremonial and latte grades are both excellent, and the price is very reasonable especially with a subscription. It’s also a brand I trust for quality & testing, and also grown in Uji Japan. So I would love for you to try it.😊 But I also really want to try the Matchaful, House of Matcha and the Ippodo, I just don’t know which ones to choose?😅
Interesting. I have the matcha latte mix from trader Joe's. I like their other matcha but as you said don't like the single serve. I wish they have an option of pure matcha powder in a container like the matcha latte mix.
@@JT-zy2ftshe did try all of them without milk first and then with milk. But like she said we can drink which ever we like and I would say whichever we can afford besides we all have different taste and palate so whatever make each one of us happy 😊
@@bsantiago945 I completely agree. Just saying that I wouldn’t buy 20g of $60 plus matcha to add milk to it. More expensive matcha has subtle tasting notes that you won’t taste while adding milk.
Enjoyed this so much! Thank you for this Remy and for the free e-book! I started my matcha making journey because of you and my favorite matcha brand is Ippodo because of you too! I hope you can include these in your part 2 review: Nekohama, Casa Cura, and Marukyu Koyamaen :) Looking forward to the 2nd video. Cheers in matcha Remy! Have a good day!
Hi that was a cool video. Have you tried Dr. Weil matcha? I have tried matcha Kari tenchi organic /or the matcha on the go ceremonial. I would like your thought. Thanks🌻
I have heard that it's best not to use milk when making Matcha Lattes because the daily affects the benefits of the tea. Is it best to use something plant based like soy, oat or almond milk? Thank you!
The Ito En brand green tea at Costco is indeed delicious and a great value but they use nylon tea bags which seeps micro plastics into your cup. It’s better to buy loose leaf and brew in a Kyusu.
Ippodo is my go to end of the day drink. I daily drink it, so I have Wakaki (cheap) for most of the week and save my nice expensive stuff for the weekend like Ummon or Kanza(hella pricey).
I liked what you said about the ipodatea . My first matcha tasted like spinach and I began my love affair with matcha. It was in a matcha latte at Starbucks, and I heard they use Aiya brand. Im trying the Aiya brand along with some others. Haven't tasted any more spinach yet. Thank you for your taste tests. 😊
ippodo tea shop was recommended to me by a Japanese person living in Kyoto. Too bad they don't have a shop in Australia as the shipping cost is almost as same as the tea.
Could you try the 365 brand, Mighty Leaf and Aiya? Ive tried and liked the trader Joes brand as well as Laird Superfood although that is more of an instant matcha that I no longer drink
We come from China's matcha base and have been specializing in matcha production for 30 years. Our matcha has been certified by European and American standards, and we offer affordable prices and excellent quality. I think we can cooperate!
Trader Joes: $0.71 per gram Costco: $0.15 per gram Golde: $0.70 per gram Matchaful: $1.17 per gram Jade Leaf: $1.42 per gram Junbi: $1.15 per gram Pique: $1.00 per gram Ippodo: $1.00 per gram
I typically drink the Trader Joe's or mighty leaf matcha, but tried Costco's recently. I got 3 bags for $50 total. It was the first time I had to take opened food back because Costco's was utter garbage, totally undrinkable. Even mixing it into a latte was nasty to me. Would ONLY be consumable in baking. I was so curious about Pique's compared to these matchas since it's marketed so heavily, thanks for reviewing them!! I'm going to get one of your recs :) Also, I'm curious about Bird Blend flavored matcha! I saw someone's collection on r/tea and I used to LOVE T2's orange jaffa matcha & salted milkshake matcha, which they don't sell in the US anymore, but I wonder if Bird Blend's matchas would be any good.
I think that Trader Joe’s and jade leaf aren’t the same. Personally prefer jade leaf because I get a better color, almost no chunks and smoother flavor when making iced latte
I agree that at least the Jade Leaf organic ceremonial grade - tea house edition did not seem the same as Trader Joe's. I actually happen to like that strong jasmine tea aftertaste she's talking about. Maybe the Jade Leaf First Harvest single serves taste more similar?
Thrive market brand has both culinary and ceremonial grade matcha. I also have matcha love ceremonial grade right now. Would love to hear your review!❤
