DK mountain barrels sometimes contain bananas, so "trapping" the shortcut may have been your own doing by shrooming through the barrel on the prior lap

Shortcat, I have a question, now that bagging is not as good as it was before, would you change your main combo as the higher speed stat is not as important
That's true, bagging being worse = speed stat is also worse. But I don't know how much worse bagging is yet, so I'll make that decision after I try some more bagging!
@@Shortcat321 as far as I know, you can sorta bag, but not as the way it normally is. You are gonna have to not get the item box at all until enough people past you just so you can get the items you would normally get for where you at. Like the first time you get the box, it's normal, the 2nd time you get a box from the line at all, you can get a single banana with a very high chance of getting it and lowered chances of the usual items for your placement.
When I was trying to bag on Mario Circuit 3 earlier today, it actually worked really well for me. The only things you have to do differently is: 1. Never fully stop/slow on boxes. Prepare to slow down ahead of time 2. Grind coins in whatever position you may be in, you’ll fall behind pretty quickly and increases your odds of pulling a stronger item
11:43 I was playing daisy circuit and some other mk8 DLC tracks that are on the Wii like 30 mins before watching this vid :D It was also my first time playing the Wii in about two years, because i have a switch now, and I was placing pretty well, I even won some races! I also don't have online or booster course, so I can't normally play those tracks :(
6:40 I'm very glad the Mach 8 is good on Wii RR, its probably my favorite track in the entire BCP and I've been using Mach 8 Slim wheels ever since day 1 of MK8 on the wii u, I was destined to main this combo!
I would love to see a new dedicated bagging video! I also think it could be cool to revisit the highest speed combo and see how well that does now with nerfed bagging

The bagging nerf is for cheeseland (and tracks like it) because as you know the bullet bill extension is great and players choose to sit at the first set for a bullet
shortcat, you can double hoop jump through the middle on wii rainbow road. It's a shortcut and it's faster. You can do it shroomless if you get a trick off of the dash pad at the end of the wavy section and hold up on the stick.
As far as i can tell, the bagging nerf isn't too bad. You cannot cycle for items at a single item set anymore, you have to move on to the next set. "let me bag real quick because i just git hit" got a lot harder because you have to make do with the items you roll first. (This might also means that a bagging track depends on item set placements.) If you want to bag, you have to commit. So You can still very much hard bag in cheese land.
Hey Shortcat, while playing with my friends, I figured that with a yellow mini-turbo, you can do the final shortcut shroomless on Rosalina Iceway. It's kinda though tho and I'm not sure it's actually faster if you go shroomless haha
Hey, if you need to dodge a blue shell when a blooper is obstructing you, the blue shell spins three times, and once it stops, wait a bit and use the shroom.

On daisy’s track, I‘m pretty sure you can throw the bomb against the wooden piranha plant in the shortcut to break it. It‘ll break it from the impact and not explode so you can drive through without needing to bonk. I‘ve done that on another track.
You use a visual cue to help you dodge the blue? Cool! That makes me curious what other people use to help them dodge. I actually rely at least as much on the audio in MK8D. Also, I'm excited for you bagging video! Should be fun and fascinating!
From my experience to make non meta builds viable, you have to go out of your way to grab coins. It makes the fast characters outstrip everyone else without items and allows slow characters to keep up with the pack

Yo, i recently did a bagging only challenge of my own for the memes (and content obviously) and i’d love to rechallenge myself after the wave 6 changes as well! would love to see how you do compared to me ;) I definitely agree with your point on the way bagging makes the game look a lot less enjoyable for your average player, the public perception isn’t always great on the topic of bagging. While i never really had an issue per say with bagging i didn’t really feel disappointed after the new changes because i knew it was meant to happen 😂
for daisy circuit i think they put the pirana plant there solely bc on wii it was just objectively faster to go through the offroad rather than even just going around

About the Rosalina's Ice World shortcut: When you have to turn smart steering back off after doing it, if slowing down because you're releasing A when going into the pause menu is a concern, maybe try auto acceleration to mitigate it? Just a suggestion

I'm so used to trying to judge whether a track is gonna be a bagger or runner when waves used to come out but it doesn't even matter anymore with wave 6 💀 well not as much at least. Also that is a very good combo, super heavies on scooty is usually decent. Lookin forward to the wave 6 content 🔥

For the shortcut on rainbow road wii at the half pipe, I personally just go to the side like you but stay on the blue section and trick off approximately perpendicular to the road. It gives you a mushroom boost and is very consistent but probably slightly slower than yours when you do it poperly. Also for bagging, if you wait very very long at the start of a track the first item set might give you useless items.

I mean the Wiggler, Inkstriker and now the Teddy Buggy have all been ATVs. Is this just a coincidence or do they control differently in some way? This is especially interesting now that the Teddy Buggys invincibility has been nerfed which should make the Cat Cruiser superior, right? Despite that I haven't seen a lot of it online nor seen many people talk about it.
I think it’s just because of their stats, and how Nintendo likes to distribute them. Similarly to how heavyweights get less miniturbo and lightweights get a lot.

@@glowpikmin123 The difference between ATVs and Bikes is actually a controls difference. Bikes are harder to control when drifting than karts, (In my experience, at least) and ATVs borrow controls from karts.
this might be unrelated to the video, but i've never seen anybody answer this: why does nobody ever take the boost ramp shortcut near the master sword on hyrule circuit? is it slower? is it just because of reaction time? i would assume that you're taking the other part for coins, but sometimes people have 10 coins and still avoid it
I don't know if it's faster or not (my guess is that the ramp is faster), but a lot of my decisions are subconscious because i'm talking about something as i play, so i just go around usually. You have to notice the ramp shortcut pretty early, otherwise you'll be taking a drift already and there's no point switching lines.

According to patch notes the only changes to parts/characters was in their invulnerability time, so really nothings changed.

Nah it still matters a lot. Wave 6 tracks are all good runners though

I found out that the blooper doesn't affect your backwards camera. Would looking backwards make it easier to dodge a blue shell while inked?

I also have a question: How come the meta always has revolved around ATVs / Quads? I mean the Wiggler, Inkstriker and now the Teddy Buggy have all been ATVs. Is this just a coincidence or do they control differently in some way? This is especially interesting now that the Teddy Buggys invincibility has been nerfed which should make the Cat Cruiser superior, right? Despite that I haven't seen a lot of it online nor seen many people talk about it.
I think it’s just because of their stats, and how Nintendo likes to distribute them. Similarly to how heavyweights get less miniturbo and lightweights get a lot.
It's a hitboxes thing. ATVs are thinner so they get hit by less items. That's why they have less invincibility frames.
@@Awoken_YKW_Fan9001 yeah but wiggler was still used even when standard bike was in the same stat-class (i think), even though standard bike most probably has a smaller hitbox
@@glowpikmin123 The difference between ATVs and Bikes is actually a controls difference. Bikes are harder to control when drifting than karts, (In my experience, at least) and ATVs borrow controls from karts.

this might be unrelated to the video, but i've never seen anybody answer this: why does nobody ever take the boost ramp shortcut near the master sword on hyrule circuit? is it slower? is it just because of reaction time? i would assume that you're taking the other part for coins, but sometimes people have 10 coins and still avoid it
I don't know if it's faster or not (my guess is that the ramp is faster), but a lot of my decisions are subconscious because i'm talking about something as i play, so i just go around usually. You have to notice the ramp shortcut pretty early, otherwise you'll be taking a drift already and there's no point switching lines.
