    Aw man, that fish is so cool! I wish I had a tank big enough for one of those. What an amazing looking fish. I can only imagine how beautiful and majestic a fully grown specimen must look in a good size tank. It's hard to grasp scale in a video sometimes, but that fish is super impressive!! Thanks for sharing Jason.

    I've been growing out 6 geophagus tapajos for the last 2 years and they are by far my favorite fish I have ever kept. I had been out of the hobby for a long time and really did my research when I decided to get back into it and I'm so glad I did. I had never seen or heard of a geophagus before but they are, in my opinion, more attractive than even discus. I currently have mine in a 75g with 6 denison barbs and a electric blue acara. They always are battling over turf and need lots of hiding spaces, mine dont share space with one another except for when they are sleeping or the breeding pair (which once they started have never stopped trying to breed) that has locked down about 1/3 of the tank lol. They also seem to be very hearty, im far from a excellent fish keeper yet they have never had issues with their health. I can't say enough about how much I love those fish and geophagus in general.

    I have a 75 gal. It is very heavily filtrated ( fx6 canister, and a aquaclear setup more like a canister filter. I have back wall with a wall of java ferns from 6 “ thick mat of them. Gravel is a mix of black sand and 2” to 3” black shale chips mix to deter digging and help lockdown plant roots for Amazon swords compacta in foreground . I have a 6 “ to 7” freshwater needle fish I got as a donation. I wanted to know if a few severum rotkeil, and maybe 1 Geophagus altifrons would be good tank mates with him and maybe 2 more needlefish. The tank used to house Discus, and the tank has been established for many years.

    • @mikeywalnuts7015
      @mikeywalnuts7015 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As somebody that works at a pet store I would avoid growing out these kind of fish that need 6ft+ tanks if you’re going to have the fish store rehome them for you. Growing stuff out and trading them in is great when they’re fish that will do great in a 55-75 gallon because those tanks are so popular that it’s not hard to find a new home for them and may be gone in a day or two. Stuff like angels, Congo tetras, rainbowfish, Cory cats etc. Especially the ones like Congo’s and rainbows that color up much more once they have size on them.
      When someone turns in a 6-10” cichlid or catfish or anything else that’s large it’s a lot harder to find someone that has space for it and you might be sitting on it for weeks.
      So, yeah, if you want to grow stuff out and trade it in and you want to have a good relationship with your LFS I would focus on community type fish that they can turn over quickly. Unless of course your LFS specializes in monster fish then you can probably throw everything I said out the window
