    Heya folks!
Painting little stompy robots with an airbrush! Whaaaaat!?!
Yes, it's KERAZY isn't it? Hand paint large robot models and airbrush little ones. :D
Big thanks to my buddy and long term supporter Marc B who introduced me to the work of Angel Giraldez. We visited Marc in Sydney and he showed me the 2 books by Angel and I was blown away! Being deeply involved in the Japan mecha scene, I will humbly admit that I was quite clueless the developments of technique and style that have happened in the outside world.
Even though I have only flicked through the books, they made quite an impact and I'd really like to get copies of them to study further. I'd also had the idea in the back of my mind for 18mths now and once I received the 0.2mm airbrush to "review" (he he, use the heck out of!) I decided it was time to test it out!
So this is a first in many regards and very much an experiment that I'm excited to share with you. The overall finish is great and despite being my first small miniatures in a decade, I'm most pleased with them and hope the lessons I've learned and share in this short series of 3 videos will be super useful for you too in your painting journey.
    Many thanks as always!
    Linc

A Stormsurge would be my suggestion for the next Tau miniature, it would be very interesting to see how your techniques transfer on to such a large model.

You could paint a Riptide battlesuit. It‘s so much fun to paint these. But maybe I‘m biased because I have 3 of them (painted red in the colors of the farsight enclave). :)

Haha I have the same mindset when it comes to applying paint. I always apply at least 3 thin coats for almost everything.

Hey Linc! I know this is older, but if you see this, what type of PSI are you working with when painting something this small?

can you do a video on charing effects? I've tried to make the end of a laser gun look as if it had been burned from all the laser fire, but I can't seem to get it quite right.

Black, copper, purple and blue are the colors I use to achieve this effect. I typically start with black and then go to copper and then purple and then blue. I build the colors up to the point where it would be the hottest.
What I struggle with is getting it to the right consistency. Sometimes it comes out looking fake. At which point I have to go back in with the corresponding color and taper that out a bit more to bring out the transitions of colors better.
Thin coats also seem to help the most in this situation.
The use of inks is also helpful for tinting. I recomend FW inks, just remember to thin them down a bit because these tend to be a bit thick in pigment imo.

Why did you use a different airbrush to prime?
I am new to airbrushing for 40k. What airbrush do you recommend, best for cost and best overall?
    Thanks!

Hi! I changed airbrushes between solvent and water based paints. For which airbrush, I will have both a a youtube video and article up on my blog shortly. Please consider subscribing to both - I will expedite them for you.
      Thanks! Linc
