Between complimenting Smoochum, Delibird, and Crabominable, as well as commending Lusamine for her frozen Pokémon “collection”, I can tell Michael really had to bite his tongue for the role of this playthrough lmao.
Is Crabominable that bad? I've never used one, but for some reason I thought it was a lot better than Smoochum and *shudder* Delibird.
I mean, that Smoochum did have her moments where she came in clutch.

Yeah that seems to be the primary reason, I don’t even think it’s that bad (there are worse Pokémon out there, both design and battle wise), but I don’t know many people who actually like it at all.

As a dragon type trainer, I should be furious about this. But I cannot deny that Ice is such an underrated type that I think it deserves such a playtrough. (Plus Kyurem exists, proving that Dragon and Ice can coexist)

Between having multiple consecutive losses, regularly changing the team composition, and not getting to use Z-moves until the literal endgame, I think it's safe to say that the Unova Bug Catcher playthrough is no longer Mikey's least favorite team. Shame, since the Ice-type gets enough flak as it is, but what can you do?

I think from the team recap video that's not the case. I kinda get it I think, since at least the ice one started hitting it's stride in the second half of the playthrough whereas bug struggled throughout.

Grunty boi needs his own channel where he just does random everyday things in character lol. Also you may resist Araquanids bubble but it's ability water bubble doubles the damage of it's water moves so it's technically doing full damage to you.
And it was also raining which also further boosted Totem Araquanid's water moves!

1:33 technically you don’t become the kahuna of poni island, you do something even cooler (pun intended). You become the first ever champion of the region and climb the one ICE location in the game, Mount Lanakila. This is where you find most of the regional ice types, including in tapu village at the foot, the Icium Z crystal, get the TM for Ice Beam AND you literally get a throne on the top of the huge ice mountain overlooking your domain of Alola. The game literally tells you you are meant to be the ice type specialist, the best trainer in alola.
Plus, if you wanted to become Kahuna of Ula Ula, Nanu seems like he wants to retire. And you could make friends with mimikyu down the mountain at the ghost trial.

FYI did this run in Pokémon moon where there’s like 15 available Pokémon and it was a blast. I including island scans cuz is more fun that way.

I used a Crabrawler on my first ever playthrough team in alola, and did not know that it even evolved. I only found out that it evolved into its next form when I was about the fight the Pokémon league
In Sun and Moon it only evolves in Mount Lanakila I'm pretty sure, they changed it in USUM
It still evolves at Mount Lanakila in USUM, but you can access part of it on your first visit to Ulaula Island now. No more waiting until right before the league challenge.
In Sun and Moon you cant enter mount Lanakila at all until clearing all the trials and catching Solgaleo/Lunala
This is also why my Alolan champion uses ice types. Glace the Sandslash, Aurora the Ninetales, Chill the Lapras, Blizz the Froslass, Winter the Weavile, and Frost the Abomasnow.

As someone who specializes in ice types themselves I'm glad to have seen this. Though have to say my Ice type team I ran through Alola was a bit similar to yours my only difference was instead of Lapras I had a Glaceon
I actually really like Ice types (I once swept 2 elite 4 members with my Glaceon, and thought ice types were pretty powerful) and since pokemon challenges keeps putting them down, I really wanted to see a mono ice type run. So it was really nice to watch this 😃😃😃

I really love Crabominable, I got a Shiny Crabrawler on Ultra Sun at the beginning of the game and I really enjoyed using a giant red fluffy crab

I had a Shiny Crabominable in my now lost OG Moon file named Bloodslugger. She was Impish with Iron Fist, and kicked (or punched) serious keister. Hoping to revive her in Ultra Moon!
I love doing these mono type runs in games. makes some battles that much harder, but always worth it when you overcome the challenge.
This video taught me an important lesson about a Pokémon of my third favorite type, and that is to never let Dewgong use a physical move.
I love the continuation of Grunty boy becoming weirded out by Michaels immersion in his characters, it hilarious and ironic.
Im so happy that he evolved Snorunt into Froslass. I can tell you this, from my Pokemon Shield playthroughs, Froslass is an absolute beast. Got a Level 20, max Dynamax level Froslass (With Snow Cloak) before even going to Motostoke. I loved destroying every single trainer, and Milo's face when I sent out Froslass with a move set of hail, double team, shadow ball, and ice fang. A beautiful, scary, and powerful Pokemon, wish I used Froslass before Sword and Shield, we need more love to it
I used Froslass on my Sword playthrough. Bea's first Pokémon can't hit ghost types, so I stacked up double teams until I maxed out evasion and swept everything
Froslass also has the special distinction of being 1 of the fastest Ice-Types in Pokemon too (Top 5 among non-Legendaries actually)!
Froslass has had a pretty interesting Gen 8 too. Her attacking stats are equal which means you can definitely go physical with some help from the Isle of Armor's move tutor. Triple Axel and Poltergeist are nice new Froslass options.
I used her on my monotype ghost run of legends Arkoos

Crabominable is super underrated IMO. It has good Attack and a pretty great movepool to work with its abilities. No chance of competitive use, but in the story you can just use your boosted Hammer moves to nuke everything you see.

Agility or even Speed Boost would not help Crabominable: only a Trick Room that lasts while Crabominable is alive would maximize what it could do, and even then not by much.
also it gets iron fist which is extremely good because it learns mostly punch moves
@@DPJDoesThings and Ice Hammer and Hammer Arm are counted as punches. 100 BP moves + STAB + Iron Fist with minimal drawbacks.
The Ice/Fighting combo is offensively fantastic. It's just that Crabominable itself sucks.

Although it’s not good defensively, it can deal super effective to many types. So I really understand his struggle in the beginning😂 but he successfully got through it. I'm really enjoying your typelocke videos. For additional challenge I usually limit myself to only one of a species. An example would be catching a Vanillite and being unable to catch Vanillish.

1. Sina can only be fought in Moon.
2. She's not important to the Alolan journey.
3. She only has 2 Ice types.
And 4. She's not even from Alola, she from Kalos!
Eh, number 2 isn't really valid. The Dragon-type specialist for the region only shows up as a challenger on League rematches.

She _is_ an Ice specialist, that much is clear, but her being from Kalos still means the Alola region doesn't have a native Ice specialist so this video still works.

This brings back memories for me, Pokémon Sun was the first Pokémon game I’ve ever played and I loved Crabrawler, little kid me didn’t know it could evolve and had a really janky team overall, so I accidentally evolved it really late game right before the elite 4 and it went destroying the Elite 4, so that was really fun.
Alola, finally! The Ice type is pretty cool (no pun intended) and Alolan Ninetales is my favorite Ice type. I'm very happy that you're playing Ultra Sun.

This challenge was such a breath of fresh air. Mikey knew the trouble of doing an all Ice Type team and pulled through to the end. Way to show some respect for one of the toughest types to use as it's considered the worst type in the whole game.
Worst type outright? I'd honestly still give that to Bug as you've got actual offensive potential with Ice.

If it was team sky, it would have been pretty easy, as one of the starters is flying, and you get the flyinium-z pretty early, so you could have just swept any difficult challenge with supersonic skystike

in jinx’s defense…i recently used it in my crystal nuzlocke from the egg, got a shiny, and its really amazing. ice/psychic is fantastic for those games and you can buy ice punch immediately
Yeah, but it hasn't aged well. Gen 2 was a very different time with a much more limited selection of Pokémon.

Glaceon would just hold him back. This Pokémon slips too far into a key failing of many Ice types, it's slow. It's just an Ice type recreation of the underperforming Flareon and commits all the same mistakes as Crabominable. A powerful type with almost zero defensive utility like Ice is, needs to be fast like Weavile. It's the same reason why I criticise the average Rock type because they have this same problem. They need to be more like Aerodactyl and less like Golem.
And don't get me started on Hisui Avalugg, that thing legit represents everything wrong with both the Ice and Rock types.
Now, whenever or if ever he does a water type run, he must refer to ice as hardened water as a reference to referring to water as melted ice. (right now I cant member if he's done one already)

i did one in ultra sun and it was awesome. my final team was Primarima, Shiny Lapras, Shiny Clawitzer, Suicune, Ludicolo and Carracosta. It was pretty difficult- to the point that I had to cheat to beat Ultra Necrozma- but it was totally worth it!
I love how grunty boy just breaks the forth wall so casually
