She tried to fill out their web form , it froze, she call three times just to be on hold for over an hour and had to finally hang up. She emailed them. Been working on my camera network for a few years here on the farm. Have 4k Hikvision bullet POE cams and some amcrest, same speces. They get cheaper all the time..about $130 or less each. Great pictures. I have blueiris software and record to MY harddisk, 8T.
Thanks for such an informative video ...can it be used to record the video for some interviews and music video as it is 4I.. just curiosity...your opinion is highly appreciated..I wana use it for this purpose
When it worked, not much issue with the system. But when you have problems.... OMG. 1) Extra hard drive received failed on installation. Lorex has stated 4 different times in the last 3 weeks that I would receive a tracking number for a new hard drive in "24-48 hours". I still have not received it. 2) The Lorex Secure and Lorex Cloud apps do different things. You need both apps to monitor and set up your system wirelessly. And to make it even more confusing, to access the cloud.. you cannot use the Lorex Cloud app. You have to access the cloud through the Lorex Secure app. Huh? 3) Lorex Cloud app- If your phone or device is not connected to a WiFi network, you will not be able to view any cameras. For instance, if your phone is using 4G data only, you will not be able to view your cameras. 4) Unable to install the Windows PC software for my PC by myself. Lorex actually had to "remote in" to complete the software installation. 5) Unable to access the cloud through that PC software. 6) Unable to use the Rapid Recap feature with any app or the PC software. 7) Long wait times for support. 8) After a week, I had a camera that was asking for a username and password. I used my system's username and password, but it would not take it. Tech support helped, but it was obvious that he did not know what he was doing. They "remote in" on my computer, and spent two hours on this issue. I watched in awe as my system went from one camera not working to all cameras not working. He ended up bricking my NVR to where it would not accept any user name and password and told me a new NVR would be sent to me. I have been told twice that a tracking number would be sent in 24-48 hours. I have still not received it and I'm sure I am following the same pattern as the hard drive issue. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I have had with a company in a long time. I totally regret having made this purchase!
People need to remember that, when paying with a credit card, you can dispute the charge with the credit card company for your product and possibly get credit.
_"Lorex actually had to "remote in" to complete the software installation"_ Uh oh... That's a major security issue, are you sure they've only installed their software?
I just picked up one of these Lorex 4k cams, and I must say I am not the least bit disappointed. This 4k cam replaced an older 2k cam. I really like the Ultra wide FOV. The balance of light between dusk, night, and dawn are all very clean...much better that I expected. The 2k cam was OK, but the 4k definition is really exceptional. I bought mine on a Xmas discount of $180 (regularly $320).
Use a battery 🔋 backup like for computers on the DVR only and you will never loose the videos.. the bigger the better, more hours offline bigger the backup size..
Very nice practical review. I commend you on commenting on the costs per month. Its hard to tell which systems require a month hidden cloud storage costs. Nice to know this one doesn't.
Questions regarding the app, 1. Does the app only provide camera access locally on the network? 2.Can the system be connected to a VPN? 3. If the answer to number 1 is no does the device automatically open any ports on the network(security risk)? 4. If the answer to number 3 is yes does it provide network encryption?
That looks like a nice system. I have a ZOSI 720p IP 8-camera setup, which seems to work quite nicely. It's much cheaper since it's only 720p. I wish I could run cables, but it's impossible for all corners for my house. I'd be happy if the system lasts 3 years. Here's what I want for my next system: 1. 4K 8-10 camera setup 2. Reliable IP connection for 100 feet 3. 6+ month battery for the cameras 4. Under $1000
*We're intentionally watching a commercial for Lorex - rather it's commercial or residential, check out their website, they have exactly what you need!* ...
you mentioned towards the end of the video "when the power goes out.." would that also mean if the internet goes out (or power) they would not be recording? thanks for an informative video!!
I've been using these for about 4 years now. The biggest problem I have is the camera RJ-45 connection to the cable. They are not very water proof. Water gets in all the time and shorts out the connection. I've been wrapping them with cling wrap and then wrapping with black electrical tape. This seems to do the trick. Oh, opening a support case is rough. You have to fill in a lot of details before it will let you even submit the ticket. Good luck with that.
I have two Lorex systems in use for the last couple of years... software is confusing and some of the features (like overwrite when HD is full) do not work... customer support is useless too. I expected more from Lorex because they (and FLIR) have been around awhile. Experience may be different with the many different systems they offer but because of my lousy experience with both my Lorex systems, I’m looking at another brand.
Thanks, It would be nice to see an intesive walkthrough of the Lorex Cloud windows software. The one video they offer is 2 minutes long. It is impossible to find a tutorial on their software and apps that is any good with any sort of detail.
3:36 You are wrong. There is not ethernet standard cable. Poe - Poever over ethernet is special standard that allows transmit data and power trught single ethernet cable. But this dosent hepen magicly ofc you need some POE switch or other POE power incector.
My biggest complaint and concern is the phone app. Navigating is a pain and not dependable. It would be nice if they had a simple mode similar to Nest. When I need to navigate quickly my Lorex will lock up, pause in areas, loop, etc. I can easily scroll through footage on my Nest but on my Lorex I have to be extremely gentle or video will bounce all over the place. Simply put I have two Lorex systems and love the video quality but still use and rely on my Nest 95% of the time. My advise to Lorex is to clean up the app and program to make it simple and easy to use as well as dependable. I''ve had my lorex for over a year and still can't figure things out.
At 4:00 you state the cameras, once hooked up, start recording immediately. Let's say you have an incident in the middle of the night that you want to review. Do you have to go thru 10 hrs of video to find the incident? How does this work? You also mention there is a motion detection system. How quickly does it detect motion and start recording. On my existing system (Ring Doorbell), there is a significant lag between actual motion and the recording of motion. Thanks!
Can't speak for Lorex, but on my QSee system there is a "Smart search" feature that lets you pick an area (kind of like at 5:29 here) where the event has occurred and the playback will skip the footage with no motion-detected events
just saw your video on the Lorex system (LNB 8111B) you posted 4 years ago i now am interested in installing one for my home now, what would you recommend for today.
good vid, i agree with you on the things you picked out, 20 buttons to just set the camera the way you want it. yikes. phone controls don't need that, do like the high res. and night vision. my guess on the re-cap i think you called it being dropped is they didn't have enough people spending the money on it so they cut it. thanks for the good info.
Dont go with Lorex, while their equipment is ok with the exception of their noisy NVR HD's, their customer service and technical help is non-existent. Also Lorex is a Chinese company disguised through a Canadian company. The better option is to go with a US based company. I researched many companies and finally went with Montavue based out of Montana. Their customer service is exemplary and there is plenty of self help TH-cam videos for extra help. I have an 8 port 4K NVR with 6 4k 8MB cameras. I have had this system for 6 months and I am very pleased.
I am interested in a 4k camera system. I did a little research and it seams that lorex has a bad as it gets customer service record Does anyone know of a system at a good price with a good customer service record. I am glad I did some research or I would have a lorex system. TH-cam videos almost had me convinced to buy a lorex.
very helpful videos, thank you! trying to setup CCTV's for a customer on his entire shop which is super huge, im thinking about this POE Cameras, challenge is i won't be able to run those ethernet cables across one building to another, so im thinking i will need to get 3 separate sets of cameras and DVRs, my question is if i have 3 DVR's can it all be on the same app and account? basically this is what the setup i am thinking i will go to 3 Lorex POE Systems for 3 Buildings Orbi 970 Network Mesh to be able to give Internet connection to each 3 DVRs so the customer can always access it on his phone or PC thank you in advance!
Curious thing about the Lorex cameras, the little plate on the bottom has two screws and inside is a micro SD memory slot ! I can't find any information about it !
A word to the wise, if you are planning on buying the 8 camera 4K system from Lorex. You need to know that the NVR will not keep up with even 5 cameras it's way short on processing power. For running 6-10 cameras you will need to buy a 16 camera NVR. I also added a 10TB hard drive to my NVR for all the data the cameras provide. If you need a zoom camera the best I could find for 4K was the LNB 8973-C from Lorex. It has a true 4X optical zoom and much higher quality optics than the stock 4K cameras in the kit. I bought both of mine on eBay for $250.00 each and worth every cent.
BulletSpoung false. With IP cameras video footage is processed in camera not at the recorder. Not much processing required to write the data and run the os etc.
Great review, I been thinking about buying a system for my home. Are you able to zoom in on faces and clearly see them or will their facial features be blurry or lack detail?
One of the problems I have experienced with a competing system is lag, specifically lag time between an incident and the time I am notified on my iPhone. I have also experienced 20-30 second delays in cell phone load times. What have been your experiences in this regard with this system?
Do you have other security system to compare with? Did you asked lorex for a security system in exchange of a free review? Thanks for the review it was really extended and detailed btw
What about PERSON detection? Motion detection is useless, if you have cars, and cats running around. I want a system that can give me a push notification / alert when a PERSON is moving inside a defined area. Can this system do that? If so, I buy now.
Ya know. I have wireless IP cams..work good but you BETTER have bandwidth! If not your experience will be poor. You hit it on the head. I went that route because all the drilling holes and running cables thru the house of different lengths to one room I found would be difficult, and cables running all thru the home. I was right about that.. But YOUR assessment is 100% true. I went from 100mps Internet speed to 1 gig and it cured some latency and jittery issues..but the offline makes me upset..gotta reset etc.. and if there's motion..the IP cameras sometimes will freeze - you can't have that ..plus you need REAL time footage..even with the FASTEST service at 1G, It's better but not cured. Has all those systems. But I'd say if I do this again it's POE or bust. Do you ..did you have to get long cable extenders to reach where the setup is located to extend them over the house? I don't have an antic so. . I went WiFi because I didn't want cables everywhere. Any knowledge you share would be helpful. Tough to hide cables on walls and ceilings.. I can watch a video again last time.. I just didn't want it to look ugly and the IP cams fit Thx man
@@Fiya_gamez You can't control the bandwidth on a wireless camera though. You could have the exact same router and camera, and it will vary depending on your location. I don't see what prevents a would-be thief from making a wifi jammer and just cut the feed to all your cameras. At least with a PoE camera, they would physically need to cut the cable, which can be incredibly difficult depending on the set up. With a wifi jammer, the camera wouldn't even have a chance to catch you before getting jammed.
@@Fiya_gamez Wifi jammers are illegal, but so is stealing. I guess if your biggest threat is someone stealing your amazon packages, it's a decent line of defense, but for any serious protection, you need to go PoE.
@@joemann7971 joemann so is stealing but we know it doesn't stop anybody. I've since fixed my latency issue..battery backup and house system with cell service. Def not concerned and won't be running cables. If a punk needs thay dam package he can have it. I've had my new system in less than a day and the cops were out last night. Chased a guy down with my pits and picks and shovels in hand. He di NOT get away. He didn't even get close to the door..only to my vehicle..once I lightly unlocked my doors and waited..surprise mfkr! Needless to say my neighbor has cams and saw that fool sacking houses..I saw it too be she was alone. I'm never alone. He got what he had coming and he caught these hands. Police showed up..no issue for and now that I took over the reins of managing my own network even with that many cams online, no latency. Got rid of some.old.gear and upgraded. So I'd say yea.. maybe for some PoE is smooth..but after power is cut...hahaa I have battery backup and a connection fools don't know about. And picks and shovels in case he thinks he's heman. Lol. I'm str8. Maybe if I buy a new.home because it'll be a selling point but my video is now completely studder free. And yes bandwidth..faster speeds, manage your own network if you know how and get the right equipment. Totally subjective but it stopped that fool last night. Everyone is happy. Bandwidth as I stated before..is the MAXIMUM data transfer period..Internet or network. So again yes..more bandwidth is better..but having up to date equipment on a wifi network is fine if you know how. I got serious when I started managing my own network. That was like a yr ago. Not these days..no latency.. plus if you know how..and you have reduces in place..it's as serious as a someone implying it's not. Maybe in the future but..not now. Im just fine.

do not do wifi for security camera. all brands have bad video and choppy because of wifi.
I made 1 call, they remotely connected to my PC, fixed my mistake and showed me a whole bunch of other features.
Well this is not a WiFi, so thanks......
Been working on my camera network for a few years here on the farm. Have 4k Hikvision bullet POE cams and some amcrest, same speces. They get cheaper all the time..about $130 or less each. Great pictures. I have blueiris software and record to MY harddisk, 8T.
Thank you very much Sir for taking the time to do this video, GREAT JOB!
I have a lorex and I love it...I have 8 cameras, I paid about 1000,00 for mine. I have had them for over 2 years
Awesome video. Thanks Adam!
Are you still using the Lorax system and how is it today and have they made any good changes to the software
Thanks. Been always eyeing that brand at Costco.
The million dollar question........how difficult was routing all those cables though your attic ......thanks for sharing
i have quality and cheap HD cameras,am responsible for delivery to your location,pl add my WhatsApp to +8613953710319
All day projecy
I bought Lorex and it was good at the beginning after 6 months one of the camera got bad than second and now I only have 2 left
Dang what brand would you recommend?
I have a Swann security system. I am very glad I went with a Swann system
Overlap feature is real cool
I just picked up one of these Lorex 4k cams, and I must say I am not the least bit disappointed. This 4k cam replaced an older 2k cam. I really like the Ultra wide FOV. The balance of light between dusk, night, and dawn are all very clean...much better that I expected. The 2k cam was OK, but the 4k definition is really exceptional. I bought mine on a Xmas discount of $180 (regularly $320).
wow that wa a good deal, did you get it at the Lorex web site or where did you get it?
@@wac8516 The discount is still there! Winter sale is at 15% off right now.
@@Guitarman1959 ok thanks Walts
Use a battery 🔋 backup like for computers on the DVR only and you will never loose the videos.. the bigger the better, more hours offline bigger the backup size..
Also on the internet router to keep the internet going!!
@@beetlebailey Yup, I got 'em on both. The power goes out during earthquakes and I want to catch The Big One in action.
Is there any monthly fee for checking video anywhere? Are they suitable for townhouse ?i like it. It s very clear
love those shots man, good editing skills homie
Nice video. That was super helpful. Thanks
That looks like a nice system. I have a ZOSI 720p IP 8-camera setup, which seems to work quite nicely. It's much cheaper since it's only 720p. I wish I could run cables, but it's impossible for all corners for my house.
I'd be happy if the system lasts 3 years. Here's what I want for my next system:
1. 4K 8-10 camera setup
2. Reliable IP connection for 100 feet
3. 6+ month battery for the cameras
4. Under $1000
Question? Can you do a video on the system set up like programming to record, and lasting time(days) on the hard drive recording✌️
Cameras and security systems simplify our lives. Now you can not be afraid for your life and for your property with new technologies.
*We're intentionally watching a commercial for Lorex - rather it's commercial or residential, check out their website, they have exactly what you need!* ...
Thank you so much I'll be getting these and fitting them myself
Never knew these guys were by Flir I knew they were tried and true but Flir are camera experts for a long time.
FLIR sold Lorex to Dahua in 2018 so they are no longer associated with them.
you mentioned towards the end of the video "when the power goes out.." would that also mean if the internet goes out (or power) they would not be recording? thanks for an informative video!!
Nice running cable is very problematic....sys looks very nice...what’s the basic cost??
Thanks, It would be nice to see an intesive walkthrough of the Lorex Cloud windows software. The one video they offer is 2 minutes long. It is impossible to find a tutorial on their software and apps that is any good with any sort of detail.

You are wrong.
I would set up a UPS for you box so if the power goes out it's still recording 24/7
Nice video🥳.
Do you connect your Lorex NVR to external hard-drive ?
How big do you recommend 8 cameras ?
good vid, i agree with you on the things you picked out, 20 buttons to just set the camera the way you want it. yikes. phone controls don't need that, do like the high res. and night vision. my guess on the re-cap i think you called it being dropped is they didn't have enough people spending the money on it so they cut it. thanks for the good info.
The Lorex NVRs with fans that I've been acquainted with, make a lot of noise. When he turned this one on I could hear it is not an exception.
TH-cam videos almost had me convinced to buy a lorex.
very helpful videos, thank you! trying to setup CCTV's for a customer on his entire shop which is super huge, im thinking about this POE Cameras, challenge is i won't be able to run those ethernet cables across one building to another, so im thinking i will need to get 3 separate sets of cameras and DVRs, my question is if i have 3 DVR's can it all be on the same app and account?
basically this is what the setup i am thinking i will go to
3 Lorex POE Systems for 3 Buildings
Orbi 970 Network Mesh to be able to give Internet connection to each 3 DVRs so the customer can always access it on his phone or PC
thank you in advance!
Curious thing about the Lorex cameras, the little plate on the bottom has two screws and inside is a micro SD memory slot ! I can't find any information about it !
Great video. I think we'll go with lorex
I would connect the DVR to an OLED TV. Great video
for the first camera you could have mounted it on the top for a cleaner install
Not sure I heard this answered but how many TB do you have and how long does it last on 4k before rewriting over the old?
Great review, I been thinking about buying a system for my home. Are you able to zoom in on faces and clearly see them or will their facial features be blurry or lack detail?
How did you wire the Ethernet around your home and through your walls?
Always go POE, wireless is as bad as you imagine it would be... studdery and juttery, lag and lockup. POE is realtime and buttery smooth.
I just didn't want it to look ugly and the IP cams fit
Thx man
@@Fiya_gamez You can't control the bandwidth on a wireless camera though.
Thanks for sharing. I do wish you could have shown how to hook up a wire from the camera to the box.
Hi thanks for video. Can you show how it’s configured to your net work.
I’m interested in how you install the wiring for the camera’s to the NVR unit. How do you actually install this unit, not just how to mount the camera outside.
Christine DiBiase Ethernet cable (cat5e)only connects dvr to cameras. It provides data connection and power for the cameras.
Is this neighborhood on Planet Earth ?

I like the system but two grand for camera ??? Wow way out of my range. What is the twenty twenty two price ??? Thanks
Glad you show people how to put a camera system in. My question is why? I work at a security company and Lorex sucks
How much for your good stuff?
The big question, the insects are detected by motion detection ??? Or any fake detections?
Love your home design, and exterior details. Please provide the paint colors for siding yellow and trim white. Thanks so much!
why is there a charge for rapid recount? isn't the software doing it?
when you have a problem with your system, see how quick they sort it out.I'm still waiting, seven months so far.
Me too im disputing the charges with my credit card company
Extremely well made video, thank you. I'm sold. I'm going to pick up one of the cheaper 4-camera systems probably this weekend. Thanks!
glad you like it. check the service that comes with it. Some have reported that the Rapid Recap is no longer included.
@@AdamDIY Thanks for the heads-up! The Rapid Recap feature is not really something I'm after. I'm old school, I just need solid cameras with good resolution that I can see my place with my phone. I think this will work perfectly.
@@scootsmcgoots i think the same as you. looking for something to just have in home and not an internet thing or pay a montly fee on. also don''t need the phone thing that much either just be able to record around the house and be able to look at it when i get home if anything has happened. old school myself.
@@wac8516 My dad got a 4 camera system and it is sweet, works 100% of the time and he can see everything on his phone. It is awesome and super easy to set up.
Thanks for the review. Certainly considering a security camera system. I wanted to ask if it is required to connect the box to a monitor? Is it possible to view all the footage on the phone or connect the box to my home TV? Appreciate your time and thanks for sharing.
That's a very good question that I thought about as well. If given an option, I wld prefer the camers hooked to my TV instead of pc monitor and\or smart phone.
@@dianneanderson731 Yes, you can connect the TV directly to the DVR with an HDMI cable and display all channels or have then scroll through each camera one at a time. Mine is on 24/7 with 16 channels of cameras displayed on the big TV. The night vision is most impressive. I have an ethernet cable from the DVR to my modem/wifi so I can view cameras on the laptop and cell phone as well. I put a computer UPS battery backup unit to supply power to the system (DVR and camera power supply) during power failures.
Hi thanks a lot very comprehensive coverage, I have 2 questions 1) how you did the cabeling? 2) can I use mix of wireless and wired at same time connected to one recorder, do they have such recorder that can connect wired and wireless cameras?
Lorex poor costumer service, and with Costco's help still bad, more than a month now 10/24/2018 did not get the replacement DVR.

I just installed this camera. I guess you cant use Flair Cloud if your outside the network. If your away I cant connect. What the point. someone could rob you and not even know. I know there is other apps out there. Still trying to figure it out since I just put it in yesterday.
Any comment on how long and how difficult it was to run the wiring for the cameras?
Do you still recommend Lorex after owning it for awhile for a DIY home owner.
this is really helpful ... loved it
90 seconds in and everything is out of the box and on the counter. That's how you do an unboxing video.
Thinking About it
The system is being sold as a 4K system, but at 7:14 in the video the highest resolution setting appears to be 1080p, tell me more.
It's shows 720 or 1080p Bcoz of low quality monitor. It's quality will be different if u just hook up it with 4k TV.
Well mostly people would say bad about this company
Great review!
Adam: Appreciate your excellent review. Now, 18 months later, any new thoughts? Thanks. My only question: how much cold/frost can the cameras handle?
If you click on the link in the description you can see what each camera system can handle...
I hate that these come with Cat5e cables. It's 2020 for crying out load! Get at least Cat6 so we don't have to replace them in 2 years when 8K cams come out
