Most CONSISTENT Gen 1 Starter? - History of Venusaur in Competitive Pokemon (Gen 1-6)

- How Good was Venusaur in popular competitive Pokemon formats over the course of 6 generations? Find out how well Venusaur did with False Swipe Gaming!
DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth. Now Popular does not mean official even though two of the formats I will be covering were official formats being Japan Nintendo Cup and VGC, but it is an indicator of what a good portion of competitive players thought was “optimal” at the time.
To the people asking why I don't cover Smogon Singles for Gens 1 and 2: It wouldn't really be a history video if I covered those because online Smogon gen 1 meta to my knowledge wasn't actually played until late 2000s. I wanted to cover tournaments/competitive battling that was actually played during the early years of Pokemon (late 90s).
To the people asking why I cover Smogon at all for singles: To my knowledge, Smogon was the most popular format for Gens 3-5 and held a number of tournaments throughout the years. As for Gen 6, I am not covering Battle Spot Singles because there is more information and explanations about sets being used relative to their own meta on Smogon. In other words, there are few written analyses about Pokemon besides the Top tiers and I would like to avoid theorycrafting because it may have a hint of bias (though I theorycraft if I REALLY couldn't find information on a certain Pokemon). The keyword here is explanations. Though I did find statistics of most Pokemon used and most moves used, there wasn't really any explanations on why. Also the few Pokemon I did find analysis of for Top Tier Battle Spot Singles had very similar move sets to the Smogon OU sets anyway.

@@VCRVoyage i mean isn't sun weather a rarity in OU? i mean rain is pretty much everywhere and sand is not exactly a place venusaur can thrive too much in
Ryouga Mizuchi Venusaur makes sun teams more viable. It has a monstrous Life Orb Solar Beam that one shots almost everything and outspeeds everything. Sludge bomb destroys whatever resists its onslaught and it got new toys in the form of Earth Power (which crushes toxapex, fire types and poison types) and a sun boosted Weather Ball which MELTS Ferrothorn and any pesky steels that try to stop it. It can sweep many unprepared teams and is a force to be reckoned with, almost carrying sun teams by itself.
@@redstonewatcher6651 now i have to ask, who brought the sun? Is it ninetales or venu used sunny day?
I'm a little disappointed you didn't mention that Mega Venusaur won the 2014 US National Championships in the Seniors Division, because it was probably the mvp of that team. Also, the set that was used by the winner was a Sleep Powder + Synthesis set, which wasn't mentioned in the video despite being in my opinion Mega Venusaur's best and most influential set of vgc 2014.

just because a pokemon beats another one doesn't make them better. Golem easily beats charizard, but charizard is still fa rbetter, evne without megas.
HeavyDonkeyKong someone said charizard beat both starters, someone else said this was untrue. I was simply proving that it was true. None of the starters is "best" because it depends what role you want them to play.

Venusaur is doing very well in Isle of Armor OU because for the first time ever, Chlorophyll Venusaur can now run Weather Ball. When it was still in UU, it paired especially well with Ninetales and Shiftry. While Venusaur is weak to Psychic, Shiftry has got Venusaur covered on that by being immune. This was enough to make Torkoal a genuine OU Pokémon once people experienced Venusaur under sun in OU.
Not to mention it also got Earth Power

It makes me mad that charizard go two megas.....venusaur and blastoise only got one......
I think it's ok though because Charizard's design suffered a bit from only having two types, it was a fire-breathing flying dragon, so giving it two megas meant we could have the mega which resembled the Charizard we know and one which gave it the dragon typing alot of people always wish it had. Blastoise and Venasaur never had this dillema so it wasn't as needed to give them a second mega.
FhuckGoogle+ It's not okay, it's just pandering to retarded Charizard fanboys
that's because charizard is one of the most popular Pokemon ever and plus in my opinion he needed two megas because he basically sucked thanks to stealth rock. zard x is a good sweeper in singles and y is good in doubles
It was for Fanboy :/

Hey there. I'm new to the channel, but some Pokemon I'd like to see in this series include:
1) Wigglytuff - Jigglypuff is my favorite, and I'm curious about it's evolution.
2) Smeargle - Wondering if it was always good.
3) Wobbufett - At one point, it was banned, wasn't it?
Thanks in advance :) Keep up the good work!
Still would like to hear someone talk about them ^_^
Yes Wobbuffet was banned to Ubers in gen 3(Because Wobbuffet vs Wobbuffet would end in a deadlock) and gen 4 (Encore+ Shadow Tag was broken) and in gen 5 it was banned from UU.
Giant Jigglypuff smeargle used to suck, wigglytuff was not usally an option but was viable in gen 4, and wobbuffet, idk
Yeah it was banned because Wobbuffet with Encore was broken in gen 3 and 4
Wigglytuff *can* be usable with its ability Competitive with a good amount of support, but that's very situational. Generally speaking, Wigglytuff is bad, buuuuuuuuut if you're determined to use it then you can make it work......... Sometimes.

Thanks for continuing this series, as a long time competitive player it is nice to see old stuff like this having the respect it deserves. Also, how about having series about famous combos? Lastly it would be fun to see some episodes/new series on Little Cup pokemon. Regardless, keep up the good work.
I love Venasaur, he is my favorite starter. As a kid, I always imagined myself riding on his back on our journey. 2nd to him however is Chesnaut and then Torterra, ya I have a thing for Grass type starters lol, cept in Gen 7, that owl had so much potential, but its final evolution was a disappointment for me, especially when fan designs were much better.

Love this series but I think this one needs a remake for gens 7 and 8 but I realize the wait since Gmax form was released
and Gen 8 meta isnt really established yet.
As I’ve gotten older, I appreciate it more when you have a Pokémon that might not be super fast or super hard hitting, but can tank lots of damage and really disrupt strategies with status effects and other stuff like leech seed, sleep powder, toxic, etc.
Deserve a remake video just like Charizard

Great video! I loved the first one and this one is no different. Venusaur is my favorite pokemon of all time, and it was interesting to learn it's history. Next I think snorlax would be an interesting choice because Snorlax has always been a commonly used pokemon and is a popular one among fans and always has had it's relevance.
After blastoise of course.
Watching this and the remake back to back shows how much False Swipe Gaming has grown as a channel
It would be cool to see Persian next. Wonder how he would do in Gen 7 with the new form too
his stats arent great but i still got a shiny one :3
Alolan Persian also have Z-Parting Shot (just to complement), to be an "awesome late-game cleric", healing fully someone to sweep the opponent. So he is pretty good. VERY one dimensional, but not as terrible as it seems.
it's a fantastic support in doubles now that it's glitched moves have been fixed, really helps control momentum & maintain advantage, Alolan Persian that is
i use one in UU with taunt, (Z) parting shot, toxic and foul play.
Its as bulky as umbreon on the physical side and its faster and access to parting shot
Alolan Persian does much better in doubles than singles where support moves have much higher & immediate impact on the outcomes of games
I wouldn't know about specific ones, to be honest, as you've made the two videos so far super interesting anyways, so I'm sure you'll manage that whatever pokemon you pick.
But I would love to see maybe a video about "weird" "unusual" or "unsuspected" pokemon that grew to rise in population out of nowhere, and maybe an analysis of why they did so, and what made them be picked over other, similar and often seen "better" pokemon. That'd be pretty cool.
Do Azumarill or Rotom. I think one of them will be intresting.
Dakota MA "You got away safely!"
Venusaur was so under rated. I was one of few who chose the bulbasaur as a kid or charmander. I also realized if Venusaur is infected with Pokerus and has the right Nature, its speed is way above average. Mines and level 80 with 185 speed stat in HG version and had Pokerus. With a good move set up for it it can be a good threat and out classes exeggutor in speed and power. It's probably my favorite Starter. Hard work and determination will get you the Venusaur you want guys. Happy Training :)
how can you not mention Gen 6 Venusaur VGC Combo with Mega Charizard Y which makes very very scary in doubles, far more than the gen 5 combo with Ninetales that you mentioned
you really need to make more of these, i love the style of this video keep it up :)
You know you got to do Blastoise next.
Love your videos man! I'd love to see Pika/Raichu after the obligatory Blastoise video.
