In this video I do an in person review of the brand new 2022 Trek Marlin 5!! I give this bike an overview, a quick test ride, and compare it to the 2021 Trek Marlin 6 and 2021 Trek Marlin 5. I also weigh the bike and show off all the new features and the new volt to miami green color scheme. Enjoy!

Correction to video: The rear cassette on the 2022 Marlin 5 is a bit different than the one on the Marlin 6. It is a 12-32 tooth on the 5 instead of the 11-34 on the 6, so a slightly narrower gear range.
Hello, I found your video researching entry level bikes. I picked up a 2022 Trek Marlin 5 today, (I think) but the bike looks different from the photos I saw online. Why is that?

the new schwinn ascension is also an awesome beginner bike for the price. Hope you enjoy your marlin for years to come but people should not discriminate off brand bikes because they're getting really good

I just picked one up in red for my son's birthday in March 2022. The decision to go up to a 8-10 speed compatible hub was a HUGE improvement and opens the door for potential drivetrain upgrades, though my son is able to go much faster on gravel than he was able to on an FX2. Unfortunately, the price also went up significantly too.
Also, I already have a Marlin 7 (2019) so I was able to compare the Rockshox fork against the Suntour and am glad I spent the extra money to purchase it.

Bought a trek 820 10 days ago and just traded it in for a xl marlin 5 2022. I’m only 6 ft 1 but it feels perfect to me. The 820 large felt so cramped. Love the 5 so far

Appreciate the review I'm looking at the 2023 TREK MARLIN 5 MTB in Lithium Grey the only colour they have available that's on sale. I'm just a beginner MTB wanting something that will hold my weight and is sturdy when going on trails and not feel like I'm going to burst a tire or bend a wheel. What would you recommend and what does it mean 29" is that the size of the tyre?

hi talalipop! im planning to buy this and upgrade to deore 2x10 but my mechanic warned me that trek frames have downswings for fd cable and deore requires sideswings. Any workarounds?

Crazy that stock is limited.. I got lucky last year in March at my local bike shop had a one day 20% off everything so i got my Marlin 5 for $440 in Matte black..
Hey Talalipop, question, is it possible to install a internal dropper, upgrade to 1x12 Deore or NX and change the suspension to a Reba down the road on a XS? Looking one for my wife and with upgrade options down the road... Thanks!
No external dropper only and yes a 1x12 but have to upgrade very thing

I am 5'7 with an inseam 75 cm. What size should fit me best? I checked the trek size guide , for my height it's the size M, but for my inseam it suggested the size S. Please suggest.

Just ordered the exact bike but size medium. I have a 2023 roscoe 7 for trail riding but wanted this more for gravel trails and street riding with my kids. The color looks great on the video. Pumped to get it

Makes it easier for shorter riders to get on and off the bike, no other reason besides that

call around as each store has different time frame, sometimes it depends on what color you like. but if don’t bother then find the soonest they could get.

How do they ride on gravel?
I had booked my Marlin 5 in September 2020, and they told me delivery would be in March end 2021 and not they are saying maybe in September 2021. The worst part is the amount is not refundable in India.

You can definitely put some thinner tires on there!

Does this bike make the "ratchet" sound when you roll without pedalling? My older Trek 4300 was super silent, which I loved. I don't really like that sound.
Pretty much all Trek bikes nowadays will have that hub sound. Just a normal part of a bike, but there are companies that make silent hubs out there. Bikes with belt drivetrains tend to be a lot quieter as well

What is it like to ride a bike with wide handle barks like this?
You have more control while turning and especially while mountain biking on trails, but it does sacrifice some potential speed on the road

They are essentially the exact same bike, but the marlin 6 is slightly better because it has a wider range rear cassette.
What is the reason for the curved top tube?
Small and XS size frames have the curve to make it easier to get on and off
That lockout works like once and then breaks. I was kinda pretty upset about that

Hello! What size do you recommend for a 5’7 male? This marlin 5 27.5 small or the 29 medium? Will be getting this model but mot sure what size to get. Thanks
I’m 5’7 and prefer the medium since it’s easier to maneuver and throw around than the M/L. The small is probably gonna be too small
@@TalalipopMTB I'm 5'9 and I got the medium/large and I also weigh slightly over 200+lbs. When I tried the medium and M/L I didn't notice any difference in the height of the bike as for it felt like it was more in the seat post that needed to be adjusted or cut so that my feet could reach the ground easier and not be all tip toes at a stand still. So I just had them cut 1 1/2 inches off the bottom of the post and now I'm rocking M/L comfortably. I was told I looked a little bunched up on the medium size and they were afraid that would lead to back or knee pain etc. Hope this helps, peace~

@@elizabethreed5648 You can move all the spacers that come with the bike underneath the stem to make the handlebars move up higher, but if that's still too low you can buy a different stem that has a steeper rise angle.

The medium frame size is a perfect fit for your height! It doesn’t have a curved frame either

Too bad these got even more expensive from when your recorded this video. The paint on it is 🤌 but you can get the same spec bike elsewhere for $650 or less (at the time of this comment the 2022 Marlin 5 costs $720)
