    Checking your youtube channel 3 years later 😊 Casual Corner was popular in the 80's and maybe 90's. You are amazing. You can turn Dad shirts into fashion items. I love your red shoes - I had an 80's strappy 3 inch spike heels - my favorite all time - heels. Wow.

    That last blouse looks to me like it can easily lean sort of 30’s Hollywood glam. The slouchy sleeves end up looking kind of like batwing sleeves. I think how you styled it looks very vintage!

    Just so you know the see thru scarfs arent costumie, my mother born 1919 and sister born 1944 had dozens of these they wore almost daily, eather around the neck, on a poney, tied around the head like a head band or folded corner to corner and tied under the chin. As did almost everyone they knew. I still have a pile of them. They were very common to wear because they were so versitile.

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! When I say costumey here I mostly mean that they are interpreted as costumey by the general public/people who don't know much about vintage style, as of course, as you say, they are indeed very accurate. Sheer nylon scarves are just so often included in "poodle skirt" "vintage girl" Halloween costumes and the like, so I think they can make an outfit appear more like a costume as opposed to just one's regular clothes sometimes due to that perception.

    • @ulla.umlaut
      @ulla.umlaut 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheClosetHistorian I use the sheer-ish nylon scarves to cover roller sets while they dry. If I'm going out to the store, I do opaque, but the sheer ones hold that hair in nicely.

    Didn't think you cud pull off the nautical shirt when I first saw it but with all red accessories -- YEAH!!! Loved both the dresses. My mom is 90 now and I remember her navy polka dot dress she wore in late 50's. I don't dress vintage but thru your vids am considering it. I'm 68 and love all vintage "stuff."

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Barbara! Vintage is so very fun, and you could always try just one or two dresses for wearing out to lunch or on nice days out to get a feel for it. I think that's part of what is great about style in general really, you can have it different every day if you should like :)

    I know the joy of managing to hunt out any affordable silk shirts & scarves when second-hand-shopping!! 😄 Sadly most of our local places seem to have finally caught on and are pricing up their silk scarves massively, so picking those up is getting harder...? and silk blouses of course were already hen's teeth, as they just don't last the way other fabrics do. Still occasionally manage to ferret something out at the more out-of-the-way places, but usually have to settle for being excited if I can just find a 100% cotton shirt that fits (even that is a little tricky in this age of polyester! 😏)

    Also, seeing you wearing it, I believe you could absolutely make the 80s knights-themed blouse work into a 1920s look, using the right accesories, like maybe a kimono or a nice loose shawl or blouse over it? Just some ideas :)

    Especially love the dresses. My mom had the nylon scarves. Would have been the early 60's.

    Oh my god, I was not expecting how good that green dad-ish Hawaiian shirt would look with a suit! SO good. Your styling is just v satisfying to watch, that kitschy sailboat shirt *did* work for me once it was on you when I wasn't sure about it at first glance, lol. I always love your commentary on your items too~
    You should update us on how the handwashing silk goes and what you wind up using for it! I've been buying more silk lately (partly thanks to your influence tbh! you mention natural fibers a lot! 😁) but the cleaning... if I really want to wear them, I need to figure out a system myself!

      Thank you! I was so pleased to find that Hawaiian shirt :) I do love me some natural fibers, but I am afraid to wash my silks before I read up on how, I just need to do the proper research and go for it but I am lazy!!

    Casual Corner was a store in our mall back in the 70s. It had cute, young clothes. They were a bit pricey.

    You should totally go on a cruise one day. They are so much fun.
    Also, stealing all my husband's dad shirts now.

      I usually go on vacation mainly for museums though, and cruises are sorely lacking in them! ;)

    I liked the black long sleeve blouse with the plaid skirt the best. I love that silhouette. I always look for black blouses in thrift stores first. Everything

    The last dress was a great find, and looks really nice on you!
    With the “art historian”/last shirt I am thinking 1930s vibe/kimono style if you remove the collar... maybe 😊

      Thank you Rebekka! Perhaps I could pair it with really wide legged linen trousers for a more 30's look, but I would need to acquire some linen trousers for that!

    Wow i really love your vintage outfit. The 80's/90's does 40's and 50's inspired outfit look great on you. That nautical dad shirt with that red pencil skirt is very cute, you pulled it off, very vintage. I am more in the 70's style inspired but still your video inspired me.

    Boat dad shirt with red pencil... YES
    That medieval 80s art teacher shirt look.... HELL YES
    I very much live in the 80s does 40s/50s realm too (defo lean into that 80 part tho, just a sucker for the kitsch).
    Your videos and blog posts have definitely helped me find my style and just wanted to say thank you...from one ace to another 💜

    Almost couldn't concentrate because I'm so in love with your make up. Can you pretty please do a tutorial on this look? I especially need to know about the blush and the black/grey colour on your lids.

      Thank you! I always do my face make-up pretty much the same so I can say the blush is definitely NYX's high definition blush in the shade Hamptons. I need to get a new one as mine has majorly hit pan! I hope to have time to do more make-up tutorials soon so I can certainly recreate this look sometime!
