Enjoyed this very much. My sister is a stroke survivor but she is very incapacitated. She can’t do anything for herself but feed herself. Unable to walk or talk or dress. The saddest thing for me to know is she understands everything I say but can’t communicate her thoughts. She is almost. 3 yrs recovery. She is in a SNF which is not a pleasant place to be but the only place that can give her the care she requires. She had an ischemic stroke with arteritus. She also had lupus in her brain which resulted in a final massive stroke left side is mostly dark on X-rays. Unfortunately her stroke happened in morning and she wasn’t found until late afternoon. I guess I don’t want anything but it would be nice if someone could give some hope.

That's a tough journey you guys have been on. Is there any work being done to help her communicate the way people with Aphasia communicate?

@@BillGasiamis Nurse tells me they try and work with story boards for communication and she gets angry as soon as she sees the boards. Actually she just called me and I ask her yes no questions and I basically get what she says. My questions are simple to her. She is so unhappy because she is unable to leave this place becasue of the ever reminder of covid. Only way we take her out is for doc appts. Then we go to lunch and even to beach outings. She loves all of this of course. Thank you for any advice or books you could direct me to so I can better understand.

My husband had an Ischemic stroke on 12/31/21 at work. He complained of a heavy foot and he felt sick. We didn't know anything about strokes and assumed he had overworked that leg. We have a very physical job. We went home, had dinner and went to bed as normal. The next morning he had lost most of the movement on his left side. By the time we got to the ER, he had no movement at all. We learned the stroke was in his basal ganglia. Thankfully, it didn't change his mind or speech. After a month in the hospital and inpatient rehab, he's walking with a hemi and doing out patient therapy twice a week. His hand and arm aren't doing as well as his leg but it's still early. I wish I had known what was happening and gotten him the clot buster. I shared your website with him and he might try out the subscription. It's a scary and hopeful time as he recovers.

No point thinking about the things that you wished you knew thats the ways stroke goes. I ignored my symptoms for 7 days before i did anything about it. Thanks for the comment. Reach out if you also need some support.

Such an important and informative interview. I'm inspired by your examples and the honesty regarding your journey. I need to play this many times to help motivation. Big thank you to you both. I'd be really interested in more about your anti-inflammatory diet. I'm doing great on keto with so many improvements all round and enjoy the butter and coffee I'm allowed. But if there's exceptional proof I could make more improvements then I'm open to it.

Thanks for the feedback. Take a look at a book called Brain Changer by Felice Jacka and Grain Brain by Dr David Perlmutter
