I tend to think of Diana Krall as a singer who plays pieno, and of Eliane as a pianist who sings . Both are excellent. I have to say that Eliane Elias is one of the great jazz artists of our times .

As a singer, perhaps Diana Krall has more talent, but to bring a more sensual touch to this work, Eliane's voice is more apropiated to this song, which, by the way, is Brazilian bossa nova...

Hancock does not take my breath away. Just how influential are Corea and Jarrett nowadays? Tyner is 74. Elias sings bossa adequately, never making a fool of herself. I much prefer her to Diane Krall. But I see Elias as primarily a stunning piano player.

Perhaps closest might be the amazingly talented Esperanza, but Eliane & all she brings, how she prints it, is in a class by herself, & much agreed that she deserves that recognition, no doubt.
The breathy contralto so right for bossa. That magisterial piano. The bare feet connected to great legs -- she is well into her 50s. She has so much to offer.

she is a goddess and this is one of the all time wonderful and amazing versions of this killer song----right along with the one dizzy did that just rocks. What I lile about Eliane is she is probably the greatest straight ahead jazz player of this material and her live performances are unbelievable.............
Fantastic playing all round. Remember talking to Eliane and Raffael when they played in London. Can't see them often in the UK but have loads of the CD's.

Let's face it, what passes for music today is melodically, harmonically and rhythmically less sophisticated than most nursery rhymes. This old band is apparently still waiting to be discovered by the uneducated masses. That's not elitism. Human beings are elite, at least potentially.

Does anyone else love those low notes she plays from around 4mins - supporting her husband's cello solo? Those low notes do more to me than his solo. Plus it helps to have another genius - the drummer. People in their 30s and 40s have so much to offer. (I'm now just an old fart in my late 50s.)
