    Oh I do hope you make videos on the Battlestar Galactica score - it really is some of the best music composed for TV in living memory.

    Thanks to everyone who joined me for my first premiere, and stay tuned for upcoming videos!
    Also, honorable mention to James Horner (whom I completely forgot) for Braveheart, Willow and The Land Before Time.

    It's over now... Can't imagine all the time and effort, congrats.
    I missed asking if you had seen Jaime Altozano's videos on LotR and your thoughts about it.
    For me, they were an eye-opener for understanding the score. And now with your whole quest done, it complements the knowdlege of this score.

      Indeed I have, I've cited him in track 2.18.

    Monoverantus saying that Gandalf arriving with Eomer is a better cavalry charge than the 3rd movie.... stands alone? ....Not alone. to the KING!

    • @monoverantus
      @monoverantus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair, as I've said it's hard to pick favorites, but the fact that Gandalf's charge is the climax of its movie does a lot to lend it a cathartic emotional release that the ride at Pelennor can't.

    • @easeldoor901

      @@monoverantus agree, and it's the 1st time you see anything like that in the movie and comes as a surprise. Pelennor you know the Rohirrim are buildiing up. Both charges give me goosebumps when I watch it, even now after all these years with so many viewings. It's setup so well.

    7:16 I respect that decision, partly because it's also my favorite. Seriously that scene is amazing.
    Edit: Okay so I have a suggestion for a game you should play. Breath of the Wild is, unsurprisingly, a really good game. Why I else would I be asking you if you could play it? It's interesting in that its soundtrack is very unobtrusive, and quite quiet, but it also has some really bizarre tunes. For example, there is one theme that is scored in 13/4 time. _13/4. Why, how, and where can I learn to do that._
    Maybe you've already played it, though. So uh. Whoops. But I would really like an analysis of Breath of the Wild's score.

    • @monoverantus
      @monoverantus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Breath of the Wild has definitely been tempting, since the only Zelda game I've played is Ocarina of Time, but I don't own a Switch, and am, quite frankly, not a huge gamer altogether. I don't think I've bought a new game since 2018 (note how old most of my faves are).
      Also, realizing this trailer track wasn't in the game was a huge disappointment X D th-cam.com/video/zw47_q9wbBE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Nintendo

      @@monoverantus Ah. Yes. I've heard the track you're referring to, and I do understand the argument that it should be in the game. I didn't see any of the trailers before getting the game though, so I'm not as disappointed by it. It still is a game that is an absolute must-play, though, even if only casually.

    Hi. I'm from Colombia and I just got the Doug's book on lotr score, but before so, I saw all your videos about it and they were really interesting. Thanks for this 🙌

    Eyy! So glad you brought up Fate/Zero! It definetily is my favorite anime show! For a video topic, I would suggest you take a look at Jeremy Zuckermann's Music for Avatar: The Last Airbender! I think it is completely overlooked and doesn't really get the attention it deserves! Anyways, I hope you will keep uploading new videos!

    • @monoverantus
      @monoverantus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Avatar score was good, but would require a lot of work to make a meaningful analysis of, not the least since I'm unfamiliar with its musical styles. If I ever rewatch it, I'll definitely keep my ears open though

    • @moritzrein2907
      @moritzrein2907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@monoverantus Absolutely! I also think it is very sad that there is no complete recordings for the score, making a complete analysis even harder :(. Though I think there is hope that they eventually could release the whole score, for the music-analysis-nerds haha

    I reccomend the podcast "The Music of Middle-Earth" to you. It also offers a comprehensive and in-deep exploration of the music of the Middle Earth film series.

    • @monoverantus
      @monoverantus  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried it, but didn't really vibe with it (though to be fair, I started from the beginning, and it might have improved since then). Any specific episode you recommend?

    • @cuitaro
      @cuitaro ปีที่แล้ว

      @@monoverantus Yeah, in my opinion I too didn't find the feelings or "vibes" which your videos give off as an analysis of the score rather than a deep metaphysical breakdown connecting the score to passages from the Tolkiens' books which the podcast offers.
      I think I might recommend to you based on *your* opinion, what was it about the podcast which didn't suit you?

    • @monoverantus
      @monoverantus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cuitaro I guess I expected more music theory, which admittedly doesn't have to be the focus of an analysis. Relating it to lore and literary themes is just as valid. However, that's not a subject I feel I need more elaboration on, as opposed to music theory, where I'm always mindful of the gaps in my knowledge as a self-taught musician.
