- Welcome to our latest official development video update for 2024! We've taken a deep dive into department progress and bottlenecks, and hope to show you some of what's involved in making a total conversion mod.
Skywind is a volunteer-run total conversion mod for Skyrim that re-creates and re-imagines Morrowind, with everything created from scratch, and with full voice acting. It’s not ready for download yet, but you can help us get there!

The time--twenty years?--dedicated to this project is simply astounding. I played Morrowind in 2000. I am now 77 years old. I hope that I am still alive when the project becomes available. Even so, what has been accomplished already is simply amazing.
I am 30 and I also hope I'll get the chance to be alive to see the release :3
you'll live to see the day brother, i hope we all will
I hope so too!! This is definitely something to look forward to!
tamriel rebuilt is still going since 2003, actually before morrowind even released
@@kayteg4277 Snowy Granius, is that you?
I got married, had a child, and I'm still following the development and looking forward to it very much.
I have two kids but boy i tell you what, im gonna make time to play this
Me too!!!
Same except 4 kids 😂
Congratulations. Someday you and your kid will finally grab skywind mod.
I'm in the same boat!
I'm a sound designer and mixer for my job and while I don't have a ton of time right now, I feel so inspired by this video and this project that as soon as I have some time I'm going to submit to join you folks.
Looking forward to your application!
The day this project comes out will be monumental in the history of both RPG gaming and modding. Looking forward for that day!

@@tesrskywind A question, are you going to replacing the voice of Dagoth-Ur, or using the original voice files? I feel like with the massive rise of AI voice memes for Lord Dagoth, that using AI for his voice would be applauded here, despite your otherwise no AI policy.
Hey Everyone! Skywind VA here! I was in the VA section with the Black and Red background.
Thank you all for your support and your positive messages! The team truly appreciates them!
One more step forward! Let's get this thing done!
You did great! Really excited about the quality of the VA work so far.
You were so fun to watch! Doing a great job!

@@jesterssketchbookBless you Jester! 🥰 Thank you.🩷
No way the voice actor of Skywind! Loved your portrayal as the character of Skywind!
15:31 Okay this guy nailed the Dunmer voice of Jeff Baker.
15:45 No shade to the OG VA's for Morrowind, but definitely wasn't prepared to hear voice performances with this much vigor, energy & even catharsis. Kudos.
I was just thinking about how good her sound insulation is and if there was ever any misunderstanding :)
I can't believe I've been following this project for 12 years and I'm as hyped as the first day.
Been a long time coming and the end is in sight!
It's like the Anti-Duke Nukem. You can tell this team is going all out for an authentic recreation.
I'm more hyped for Skywind than for TES6 and Fallout6 combined. Though the Skywind team is gonna have to share some credit with Bethesda for that.
Holy! 12 years
I've become relatively apathetic in that time
14 armor slots and mixed pauldrons/gauntlets making a return... You guys are amazing, thank you.
This project is absolute modding madness, what a undertaking! Respect to all and everyone involved! I will be celebrating when the final product finally finds the way onto my SSD and i can touch this remaked/remastered masterpiece! Thanks to all of you involved! The modding scene in general is the one who keeps the games alive...in some cases even over decades! Such Awesome!
Good Lord am only watching the first minutes and its Impressive,it would be amazing to have at least a digital artbook of Skywind, amazing work guys
For me, the spell sounds are THE most impressive feature here! I truly despise most of Skyrim's vanilla (loud) spell-casting sounds. These new sounds are fantastic, and so varied. Everyone has worked their socks off to create something phenomenal here. It makes me emotional to see (and hear!).
Appreciate the love for the sound team! They're sometimes unsung, but good sound effects really enhance the experience.
That ice spell sound at 12:19 is one of the best ice sound effects I've ever heard
By Bethesda standards, this game is ready to go.
This looks amazing, so keen to play. You are all doing such an amazing job.
As someone who's played a lot of Morrowind, I have to say I am very impressed by the art team, the way they brought the assets to life and brought new life to them without making them a 1-1 recreation is amazing, I def will play this mod just to look at the fruit of the art team's efforts alone
Incredible. The project is much further alone then I realized.
Will definitely share this around.
I made some glass bottles and whatnot for these folk like 10 years ago at this point. They were helpful and really great to work with so please help out if you can! I got a job that sucked up all my free time so I had to leave. I saw some glass bottles I made in this video so I'm glad they didn't have to replace them. I might be able to rejoin soon but as a hard surface guy I've never made clothes haha.
👀 we'd love to have you back!
@@ucm6397 agreed!
@@ucm6397I'll be back if I can make it work
You're a legend thank u for your contribution friend
That must've felt great to see, something that may look insignificant like a glass bottle, you made it a decade ago and it's still there, still being used in the same project. Everyone who did anything for this project, as small as it may seem, contributed. That's honestly amazing.
It's awesome to see what fans can do when they work together for something they truly loved/love.
i am not lying. i think about skywind almost every single day.
yeah, time to replace Roman Empire with Skyrim during toilet thinking
The day it releases, I'll kiss my social life good bye, and it won't be hard...I have no social life
Miserere me is a banger
That and Skyblivion. I will prioritize these two games over anything that comes no matter what lmao
Me too
This is the single most important mod to me and many others morrowind means so much to us. This team and modding community is by far some of the most committed people and it shows. No matter how much time it takes i hope we can all support one another to see this through in its entirety. Thank you Skywind team
This is quite an expensive venture. And to have all these different people and departments working together across the world (I'm assuming) Is really remarkable, and for them to be voluntarily doing this all out of passion is really incredible. Very very cool indeed and I wish all the success for this project.
As a programmer, I love the fact that coding is the only one of your 16 departments that doesn't have a percentage progress.
xD
That's because they use ✨🌈AGILE 💃🕺
Yeah, because last 20% always take 80% of the time.
I'm currently 3 points into a 2 point fallout ticket. PO doesn't even question it lmao

Despite having yet to play Morrowind, the ambition and scale of this fan-made project is astounding, and makes me hyped about its future. Don't let anxious people who think they're entitled to a release date soon demotivate you
It's always the right time to play Morrowind
@@dalsifodyasjustock6633 currently playing Oblivion, next up will for sure be Morrowind
@@ExodiumTMMorrowind was my first Elder Scrolls experience and is to this day my favourite game. I would say the biggest difference between it and oblivion/skyrim (aside from the technology used to make the game at the time) is it's a truer RPG with skills and character building whereas the later games are a bit more arcadey in that sense to appeal to a wider audience. Highly recommend
@@BarneyGumbl3 I still remember that first house I entered at the start and the moral dilemma it presented. That was over 20 years ago.
@@dalsifodyasjustock6633I’ve tried but unfortunately I can’t get past how dated it is. I know it’s a masterpiece of a game, but until skywind comes out I’ll have to refrain from playing morrowind. I think it’ll make skywind even more enjoyable honestly.
From day 1 Skywind has been my most anticipated project. Keep it up, guys, I want to see a release.
Guys, this looks incredible. Everyone involved should be so proud of themselves! Keeping going on a long project like this is so difficult! You have my respect!
15:27 really taken aback by how incredibly good the voice acting is here

The perk system is a HUGE addition! I nearly shat my pants when I saw that. The temptation to learn one of the technical skills required to contribute grows...
This is way more exciting than I ever could have imagined. And the art direction for this whole project is truly splendid.
Wow, I am absolutely stunned by all the progress the community has made!! With every video the project has seemed better and better and I cannot believe how far it's come
I played Morrowind in 2003. I was a freshman in high school. It was the first RPG I even completed the story on and even played past it because of modding. I went to college, got married, have a career, and had a kid all while this recreation has been in progress. The progress is incredible and I hope I get to explore Morrowind again some day.
Azuras's Coast having the melodic, esoteric tracks and West Gash the more bombastic 'adventure' music-it's perfect!
I thought the same!
👍👍
I can't wait to hear what they have in store for the Ashlanders and Dwemer ruins!
2:26 Renara's voice acting 👍- omg she's so good even when shes just reading out chat messages hahah
So happy to be part of this project! Everything looks so good!♥
No matter what happens, your incredible team has my undying love for letting me see Morrowind in this way. Thank you so much. Your works stand on their own and the future will see your time, sweat, and tears spent.

Never tought you guys had added this insane touch to this masterpiece. Thank you all for creating this
As a day one Morrowind player I've been following Skywind since the public alphas. I remember downloading one when all it had was the landmass and a few random buildings plus the barebones of the ghost fence, but the joy I felt running from Seyda Neen to Balmora just the way I remembered it from Morrowind was indescribable. Just the fact that I was doing this in Skyrim's engine was mind-blowing to me! It's amazing how far this project has come, it's gotta be one of my most anticipated game releases on the horizon. Massive props to every single person on the team! The day Skywind releases is gonna be one hell of a good day and I am ready to finally come home.
the semi-monthly to yearly check ins that you all do are so charming, as I'm sure many long term fans of the Elder Scrolls would agree. Your passions and dedication is inspiring, and we are so excited to see your work!
I was 18 years old when I first played Morrowind. It has captivated me to this day. Im now 42 years old. I hold the lore in such high regard, that I have all of the in game books 📚 printed and bound in leather on my bookshelf.
Post a video
I'd love to see them!
It is amazing how much you have achieved, you literally created a proper triple A game that a million-dollar company can make. I am looking forward to play it hopefully soon, great work!
Dang when he said
“We *_don’t_* use AI voice acting”
he meant it.
edit: This is no longer an accurate representation of my opinion.
That's not the full quote. The narrator of this video is almost definitely AI. I would be very surprised if not. I am not sure a human could mimic AI that well. The voice work in the game is not AI.
@@Illogical. Uh, what? The narrator of the video is Daniel Hodge and he is most definitely not an AI. Why would you even assume they're using AI for the video when they have 300 different VAs in the game?
@@Illogical.The voice doesn't sound particularly robotic, it seems like such a random claim to make.
@@savlecz1187 Huh. I'm sorry for making that accusation, then. It sounded really unusual to me.
Yes, I did think it was odd to use real voice actors, but then use AI voice to narrate the video. I had the suspicion of it being AI before I got to that part, and then noticed the, now, presumably just coincidental, specific wording.
My suspicion grew*¹ for various reasons. I don't remember all of the reasons, but the way nerevarine was pronounced (considering how little I have played Morrowind, I did not give this evidence much weight, but it was easy to remember). I don't have the words to formulate the way in which the other things I remember sounded weird to me.
I would much rather drop my claim than rewatch the video to look for evidence that supports it. You knowing a specific name already seems like far stronger evidence for the voice and speech patterns belonging to a human than what I have brought forth. It also doesn't matter to me very much. Especially since this is a video about the development, and isn't directly a part of the game.
I will make sure to be more critical of my suspicions that something is AI in the future. I think I noticed one initial detail that sounded odd, and then started listening for more odd details.
Although, just a few days ago, I spent hours trying to find the original artist of a certain piece of art, and ended up finding a clear enough image to see that it was probably made by AI.
Here are the key things I remember being odd about that image:
Unnatural and symmetrically inconsistent sleeves.
Eye colors too different, but not enough to be noticeable, and not for shading reasons. (not good evidence. Could also have been a bad sampling by me.)
Weird thing that looks like it's supposed to be part of the handon the left, but doesn't make sense as being part of the hand.
Linear increase in finger length on the hand on the right.
And something about hair continuity.
I did spend a lot more time on the image than I did on this voice, but voices are also more difficult to describe.
*¹: "My suspicion grew" seems like I might have been cherrypicking. That is not good. I should make sure to avoid doing that.
@@rubycosmo6279 AI voices have gotten a lot further than the tts that is commonly used in various places. It's great for me, cause I don't like using my own. Although, I never have a reason to use a voice online, real or not.
Damn that YOUR BLODLINE ENDS HERE line was fire
I was gonna say the same thing, no idea who they are but all these VAs are amazing!

She certainly loved saying it lol
Your depictions of bonemold armor, kwama creatures, and ald ruhn are PHENOMENAL! I already know this is going to be an incredible adaptation because you've absolutely nailed 3 of the main anchor points that make Vvardenfell the otherworldly setting that it is.
It's pretty awesome and quite beautiful that this is a community effort. I love the unity showcased here, with everyone working on different parts towards a singular goal.
The VA that was screaming into the mic already sounded hella good in cell phone footage, imagine the actual mic audio. Good stuff
I love it when voice actors go all out like that, make it authentic

The idea of playing Morrowind with Skyrim's graphics sounds AMAZING! And since the people creating this mod, loved and understood Morrowind, I imagine that this restoration of TES 3 will be a great improvement to the original.
