- Two different locations over a couple of days in the Mach Loop gave a great variety of aircraft. The upload includes 2 x F/A-18 hornets from the Canadian air force, 1 x Texan T-6 from the Royal air force, 1 x Strikemaster (private), 2 x Hawk T-2 Royal air force, 1 x F-35B Lightning royal air force and 4 x F-35A lightnings from the United States Air Force. The RAF F-35 is the first one to complete the Mach Loop since its arrival in the UK back in 2018.
Enjoy the upload

I'm always thrilled to see legacy Hornets do their thing. The Canadians show up and hit the Mach Loop still carrying their "suitcases" and covered in travel dirt. Straight to business, ladies and gents. 👍🏼
Indeed 🇨🇦👍
Canada does the traveling antique road show as well as they can because that's the budget they're given. 😉
😂
@@FirstLastOne you really need an education
@@alpearson9158 Would an education improve Canada's available aircraft? Surely you didn't miss the point did you?
You can spot the Canadian Hornets right away by the Painted "canopy" on the bottom.
Would make more sense to have if their TOP canopy’s were tinted/blacked out too 😂
@@Av-vd3wkFighter pilots have explained how in a dog fight, those false canopies can indeed work to confuse the enemy.
I’m surprised we still have fighters in the air. That duct tape must be really adhesive.
@@paratrooper8882 We've got Red Green as our chief of maintenance...we're good to go lol
Early marine corps F18s had the false canopy painted on aswell
Canada in the house!!!! This is an awesome assortment, including the RAF F35s....hope that becomes a regular occurence!
I hope so too!

@@DafyddPhillipsSoon Canadians will be getting the F-35s as well. the deal was made late last year or early this year.
My grandfather was an RCAF bomber pilot in World War two. He participated in the thousand bomber run , Also a trainer to other pilots. He made it back but many did not. The United kingdom and Canada will always have each others backs when it comes down to it. Forever brothers I think

@@DafyddPhillips Out of interest - do the aircrew ever contact you for copies of these as souvenirs? I can imagine some of the US guys would rather like a framed print on the wall when they get home 🙂
@@copperfield3629yes, some pilots occasionally get in touch for some high res pics. Always Happy to send them 👍
I can't believe we've been flying these things (CF-18) for 41 years. Over that same period of time, the world went from the Wright Flyer to the Me-262.
Wow, lots of different aircraft. Lovely videography and loving the clarity of the stills. "Hi Mom"
Many thanks
Always makes me proud to see our boys abroad strutting their stuff. Canadian pilots are a breed like no other, and would be the deadliest of enemies to encounter in the air. Every ear when Canadian and American pilots gather to engage in air to air combat training, our boys are consistently at the top, because in the RCAF you can be a career fighter jockey, so they learn everything there is to know about dogfighting and put it to good use. Because of the Canadian Military being severely underfunded ever since the Korean war ended, our miliary has emphasized the importance of training to overcome the gap in technology. as a result, Canadian troops have always been a very Formidable force to go against. Germany discovered this in both world wars, and had a healthy respect for Canadians, likewise for Australian and New Zealander forces as well. when we get into the mindset, we stop being a very polite people and become our enemies' worst nightmare. What's that saying again, 'Beware the Fury of a patient man.'
I remember many years back. There was a significant number of CF-18's crashing during training. I heard it was because their combat training was so intense.
@@iblockpuncheswithmyface1490 Dude, it is, and they are psycho when their put their game face on, I swear! I went to an airshow in Alberta and the commander who flew that day came down the deck at 20meters high at 590 knots, and went full up vertical with full afterburners and he almost broke the sound barrier but it was the most insane thing I have ever seen a Hornet do!!! Full on respect for all fighter jocks man, because the punishment those aircraft put their bodies through must be nothing less than life shortening! There was an American A-10 pilot and his warthog there for the same day and even he simply shook his head walking back to his aircraft. that was one of the best airshows I have ever been to!
@@oculusangelicus8978I hear the infantrymen are just as nuts. Doing jobs everyone else is too scared to do.
@@iblockpuncheswithmyface1490 Well, the Canadian troops were the ones assigned to do it by the British commanders in WW1 and WW2 because of two factors, 1. the Canadians were a breed apart from regular infantrymen, and had a drive to succeed no matter the challenge and second, the British officers sent the Canadians in because they didn't want to sacrifice their own troops, shameful if you ask me, but to their surprise and chagrin, the Canucks always managed to succeed. The German were scared to death of meeting Canadian special forces because they knew that if they weren't given an specific order to bring back prisoners, none of the Germans would likely survive. The Germans called them the black devils because they were every bit as hard core as fighting the devil himself and were on a level equal in tenacity with the Waffen SS. Ever since 2014 Canadians, because we didn't have the money to give to them, began to train and teach the Ukrainians how to fight properly, and today no one is ever going to pick a fight with the Ukrainians any time soon, and that is because we sent many Canadians spec forces over there and taught them how to really fight. After what has happened in Ukraine, no one will ever think to underestimate the fighting prowess of Ukrainians ever again. Because the Canadian military is so poorly funded, we have had no choice but to learn to compensate for the lack of top tier equipment with fierce fighting spirit, and the will to take as many of the enemy down before they themselves fall, and for the major part, we have been very successful at it. I was a member of the Calgary King's own Armored regiment reserve unit for a time in my youth. I wish we had the Leopard 2 like we do now, back then!
@@iblockpuncheswithmyface1490 World class snipers too.
0:12 That sound that Hornet made was beautiful, great videoing! loving these Mach Loop videos!
Glad you like them, thanks!! 👍
Great to see legacy Hornets in action. And with canopies painted on the undersides! Nice video as always Dafydd
Thank you. Thanks for watching.
Canada does the traveling antique road show as well as they can because that's the budget they're given. Painting a faux canopy on the underside is what one might call 'confusion camo' 😉
@@FirstLastOne lol, "antique' roadshow is very diplomatic. Canada was part of the original F35 partnership. They we cancelled because the new boss has no clue. Then he pissed around for 5 or 6 years years and finally now we're back at the end of the line to see if we can get some too. In the meantime I think Australia is selling us their old antiques as they take delivery of their shiny new toys.
@@FirstLastOne As an Aussie I've still a soft spot for the Hornet. Miss seeing that in the skies here. Probably the best looking of all the 4th + Gen jets.
@@rreiter Canada will be getting Block 4. Australia, and other early buyers might get stuck with the most expensive advanced trainers ever built.
That is impressive on the CF-188 Hornet and F-35A Lightning II roaring down the valley 🤩
Canada hasn’t received any of its F-35s yet, first ones are supposed to arrive in 2025.
Those first two Canadian Hornets made very aggressive moves in and out of that valley!
What’s so great about this video is A: your shooting/panning/capturing skills
B: the pilots knowing that you guys are there and probably coming in nice and low to add to the photo effects (yes I know they have to fly to designated flight courses)
C: you taking the time to capture a few shots of the other guys who all enjoy the same thing.
Wonderful ! Keep ‘em coming and thank you 👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching Alex 👍
fanatstic footage Dafydd great to see legacy Hornets from CAF at the loop
Thanks Steve. Yes, they are great looking jets ✈️👍
I live on a farm in Saskatchewan. Used to see CF-18s zip past the farm all the time in the 90s and early 2000s. Well. I haven’t seen them in years now. And yet I think Canada still…. Has them in service
Lived in Comox when they were at CFB Comox before leaving for Cold Lake Alberta.

Love the F-18 hornets nice jets. ❤😊😍🤗💯🤩☺️👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Great video, thanks...
Having spent five years in a CF18 squadron these jets are great. I love them. And I don't think most people actually appreciate or understand how great the technology actually was. And still is.
There's like 30 different computers on an F18. Everything from an ADC (air data computer) to an INS (intertial navigation system). Never before seen radar, flight control computers, single pilot, multi-role aircraft, you name it. And it's all 1970s technology, lol.
Forget about CF18s being old. Airplanes are just platforms. Me personally I loved the flight control computers (FCC). That was kind of my specialty. So many stories from the McDonnell Douglas guys and aerospace engineers who actually built this plane. The flight control stuff is crazy. Think skunk works. Guys with no sleep and not taking a shower for a week, lol.
That's the story of the F18.
Spectacular. Those shots are amazing. Thanks Dafydd.
love the editing on this one and the different angles, showing the scene on the ground was interesting too. WELL DONE!
Thanks nick 👍
The Canadian f18s keep going and going. We bought tough as hell Navy fighters. Didn't smash them into aircraft carrier decks or leave them out in the ocean. They even go a little faster without some of the naval gear. Plus our pilots are a different breed. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for watching Alex 👍
Seeing the CF-18s was very cool, and helps to explain why I haven't heard them overhead so much - we sent both of our working birds to the UK for training. :p
Excuse me BOTH? We have 2 WORKING ones???
@@hueyrosayaga We must - or at least did at the time Dafydd shot the video - because there's two in frame at the same time.
Heard them last week in Cold Lake.
@@hueyrosayaga I mean we definitely did at one point as this video proves!
Hahaha wish that was a joke! LOL it actually is...but when compared with how many the USA still operates even though they are on their way out the door, it might as well be 2! LOL I often hear them out in the North East sector of Alberta doing their thing (I'm a professional driver), and playing with those ultra expensive fighter jets like they were their own personal ride! Not too long ago a couple came by Edmonton and did a flyover the Edmonton Elks stadium for the Battle of Alberta with the Calgary Stampeders. That Stadium is right next to my house! You always perk up your ears when you hear those twin F404-GE-400 turbo fans screaming their low pitch howl in the air. You always know that there's no way that THAT is a civilian aircraft when you hear them, and make a b-line for the nearest window!!! LOL

Hi there, what's the livery on that Strikemaster at 1:30? Looks like one of the Gulf states?
As a Canadian, I don’t know how I missed this one?
Ya… our jets are old with ancient avionics and radios, and hard to keep flying.
But we are getting the F35… someday!
apparently at risk with the likely government change
@alpearson9158 Unlikely. If we get a change in government, it will be the Conservatives who will win and they wanted to buy the F35 when they were last in power in the early 2010s (luckily we didn't end up with the early block #s). When the Liberals came in in 2015-16, they canceled the early F35 order by the Conservatives, only to end up choosing the F35 again last year. In a way that worked out because we get a more advanced version with some of the early issues now resolved.
Back in 2019 I was at the airshow in Greenwood NS. The Blue Angels last year flying the Hornet before shifting to the Super Hornet. I always get the shutterbug/media pass good for four days of flying. Those Blue Angel ground crew were so busy with worn out aircraft that by Saturday the first public show they had the media aircraft and spare in the show and had robbed the two down aircraft of parts to keep the third trouble maker flying. The hours on those airframes is much higher than on Canadian Hornets which is why they were replaced in 2020. My hats off the the ground crews, they refused to allow the show to be modified at all. Now they fly Super Hornets which comes with it's own issues I understand thanks to so many of them being used as tanker aircraft during their life which drove up flight hours at sea. They have a smaller number of airframes to draw from so it's likely they will fly the later version for fewer years than the Legacy model.
@@jacrain9396 The Typhoon would have been better for Canada than the F-35.
@@cryptohunt2552 Why do you say that?
Canada has a small air force, so each of those planes need to be the best of the best. Stealth is indispensable both offensively and defensively, and add to that the F35 has the best radar/sensors and gives the pilot unmatched awareness of the battlefield. Yeah the Typhoon has greater range, but that's what tankers are for, and it's not much cheaper as I understand it. It may even require more maintenance hours given 2 engines. The typhoon is good, but it's still 4th(or 4.5) gen. With less than 100 fighters, we can't afford to be operating fighters that will increasingly only be on par or slightly ahead of what potential opponents can throw at them.
Great shots Dafydd! Greetings from Oklahoma.
Many thanks for watching
Appreciated.
That opening shot as the Hornet is coming down the chute....awesome! Once again had to take a break from the honey do list to get my fix. Nicely done again. Has any organization put together a flight of WWII planes through the Loop. If they do YOU HAVE TO FILM THAT and make it a hour long video. Ill send you some memory cards. Great and professional job again Dafydd, thanks for the rush.
Thanks Scott, we occasionally het some classic jets through the loop but don’t know if any ww2 warbirds looping in recent years. A spitfire would be great ! 🤞

Really awesome

The F18 is still head and shoulders about the F22 and F35 for all out intimidating looks! It also doesn't hurt that it has a history behind that we can all respect. Is it faster with better tech and multi functionality? Nope but that's what makes it great. The reason why it's still functioning - it doesn't break down at staggering costs to repair and maintain and it's maturity makes it reliable and trustworthy.
It's still a formidable fighter jet to this day what a brilliant design
Superb!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Many thanks for you

Loving the legacy Hornets ! I have built more models of these planes than any other ! their looks are so appealing . Strikemaster is rather gorgeous also . RAF F-35 they must be as rare as hens teeth in the Mach loop??
The Hornet is an embiggened F-5.
Some day I'd like to start with a Super Hornet but end up with a Super P-700.
If you're a Hornet fan you'll probably find the Northrop P-700 (aka N/D-102) interesting. It's another member of that same design lineage. Northrop's -530 was almost a Hornet, it lost weight to become the -610/Cobra; McDonnell Douglas Model 267 ended up resembling an updated and navalized -530.
Northrop submitted a significantly redesigned evolution as one of the Eurofighter proposals. The -700 looks like a Hornet's fuselage with a single tail and a tailless trapezoid wing configuration.
Awesome
Nice to finally see the F-35 in Canadas arsenal
It'll be a while yet.
