    AI's influence cannot be overstated, i don't care what the advanced metrics say. He had middle schoolers in rural michigan putting their hair in cornrows.

    • @fortynights1513
      @fortynights1513 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      If you look at only advanced metrics, and really, efficiency metrics, you’ll probably end up underrating Iverson in some ways.
      If his team has better spacing, he’d probably have been more efficient (his efficiency was at its best in Denver in 08, and they are said to have shot better than early 2000’s Philly did from three).
      And as is, there’s one Iverson game that I never see anyone bring up where even people who go off of analytics would also say he played great:
      In the first game of the first round of the 2003 playoffs, Iverson was playing the Hornets who while not good offensively, were the fifth best defense by points, and seventh best by defensive rating.
      Against them, he put up 55 points on 65.6% from the field, and 74.6% true shooting with a box plus minus of 21.9 along with eight assists (which led to 17 additional points) and four turnovers in a 98-90 game that his team won in regulation.
      There are only three other playoff performances of 55+ points on true shooting that is at least as high as he had, and they all occurred in much higher scoring games in eras that are described as having faster paces than the early 2000’s.
      That game by AI is one of the most impressive playoff statistical games I’ve ever read about, and it came from a player who is often criticized for bad efficiency, and the game isn’t talked about at all because it was a first round game in a year where his team lost in the second round.
      Iverson’s influence and cultural impact are also huge and deservedly so.

    One thing I will say for Iverson:
    He averaged more minutes per game than you are likely to see most players average now.
    He may be overrated in some regards, but his endurance is arguably overlooked. He’s responsible for the most minutes per game of anyone since Truck Robinson in 1977-78 if I’m not mistaken.

    I just want to say how legendary Allen iverson was. As a kid from the inner city in NY, this man was him. As a kid you never really know what it means to be inspired but man, I wanted to be just like Allen. Seeing that man fight amongst the trees in the court gave the little me motivation to succeed. His game transcends the game of basketball as he touched many lives. Anyone that knows chuck, knows he’s very emotional and in tune. Well, your fans love you more then you could imagine chuck. We thank you for your service that you given humanity. An icon for sure.

      Indeed. There's lots of others making bball vids out there (...or here? lol), and some do make an exceptional work too in their own merit, but what makes this dude stand out is his very distinct story-telling style. His vids may not be packed with stats and all that - he though does extensive reasearch related to the charcters that his vids are about and presents it in the nicest way. It's like listening to a wise old dud sharing a huge lifetime experience. And the cherry on top is that even though he does state that "this is his personal take" on whatever, it everytime is persuasive enough as if it's a professional documentary we're watching and not some YT channel's content. 🙂

    Allen Iverson to me is one of the best examples of what talent and willpower alone can accomplish, an incredible phenomenon and individual who pushed envelope of what a basketball player could be, inspiring an entire new generation of hoopers with his play style, attitude, vision, physicality, and fashion… as well as why there are so many legends well ahead of him in the all time standings, once his youth ran out his body failed him thanks to the fact he didn’t do strength and conditioning training or you know practice as much as he should have. Allen himself has admitted that he could have have had a much longer run of dominance and career overall had he actually worked out more regularly, but he still left one hell of a mark for his time that is undeniable.

    Great video, but there’s more context to Iverson’s practice rant. His best friend was murdered months before and that week the murder trial began, and he couldn’t focus on practice. He mentioned in the same press conference that he had a lot on his mind

    You and Thinking Basketball droppin Iverson vids back to back? Great in depth, hoops talk and a man who tells stories like a basketball Hitchcock.
