Welp, my night just got better
Same
Same, brotha. Same.
bro hands outta your pants, damn
Everybody misrepresents the practice clip, he’s speaking that way because he just lost a dear friend, just lost a game and all they want to talk about is “Practice”…
Literally was about to comment the same thing
AI's influence cannot be overstated, i don't care what the advanced metrics say. He had middle schoolers in rural michigan putting their hair in cornrows.
If you look at only advanced metrics, and really, efficiency metrics, you’ll probably end up underrating Iverson in some ways.
If his team has better spacing, he’d probably have been more efficient (his efficiency was at its best in Denver in 08, and they are said to have shot better than early 2000’s Philly did from three).
And as is, there’s one Iverson game that I never see anyone bring up where even people who go off of analytics would also say he played great:
In the first game of the first round of the 2003 playoffs, Iverson was playing the Hornets who while not good offensively, were the fifth best defense by points, and seventh best by defensive rating.
Against them, he put up 55 points on 65.6% from the field, and 74.6% true shooting with a box plus minus of 21.9 along with eight assists (which led to 17 additional points) and four turnovers in a 98-90 game that his team won in regulation.
There are only three other playoff performances of 55+ points on true shooting that is at least as high as he had, and they all occurred in much higher scoring games in eras that are described as having faster paces than the early 2000’s.
That game by AI is one of the most impressive playoff statistical games I’ve ever read about, and it came from a player who is often criticized for bad efficiency, and the game isn’t talked about at all because it was a first round game in a year where his team lost in the second round.
Iverson’s influence and cultural impact are also huge and deservedly so.
He was the OG model for small skinny guy with infinite energy that makes it seem that anything is possible before Curry. A lot of credit is given to Curry for inspiring a generation which is fair but AI should be getting wayyy more love
Clayton, you are the best basketball youtuber by 1000 miles. These videos are works of art and I appreciate your dedication.
One of the most underrated TH-camrs I've ever met in my life, you can simply feel the effort in every single one of his videos. He relates to the players, he doesn't excuse their behaviors, it's like he dives deep into their soul. 10 out of fucking 10.
you need to check Ben Taylor's Thinking Basketball.
i love that channel too, a lot of really good content on there for sure!@@chrestiancapuli2221
@@chrestiancapuli2221thinking basketball is amazing but every one of Clayton's videos feels like a movie/documentary. It's like he's telling a story in the way he narrates. It's different from thinking basketball in that Clayton's videos may feel more impactful to some people.
One thing I will say for Iverson:
He averaged more minutes per game than you are likely to see most players average now.
He may be overrated in some regards, but his endurance is arguably overlooked. He’s responsible for the most minutes per game of anyone since Truck Robinson in 1977-78 if I’m not mistaken.
while going 10000 mph every second and banging into centers like Shaq Mutombo mourning ect...
@@tupacalypse88 i wonder what he thinks about all this load management
Iverson is not overrated at all, and I hate that stupid narrative. It’s all because the modern day obsession of analytics that people are blinded by. Real basketball fans know how legit Iverson was, same with his opponents. He put fear into other players like few others in basketball history were capable of.
The overlooked thing is the day of the practice interview, AI went to the trial of the guy who killed his best friend
Iverson's passion and fearless style of play have left an indelible mark on basketball history. The way he carried himself on and off the court is a lesson in authenticity and perseverance.
As a sixers fan it sucks having missed his prime being born in bloody 2000, especially seeing something like this just showing how much he really means to our franchise and our city
Iverson’s the 2nd greatest Sixer of all time… under Embiid of course 🎉
@@beckembrown7002wow AI is still over embiid rn
@@beckembrown7002 love Embiid but…. No not better than AI, not yet anyway
@@beckembrown7002you serious?
If you're born in 2000 like myself you prolly remember a couple or handful of games I remember his last season in Philly 05-06 and his last couple games before his trade in January 07
I just want to say how legendary Allen iverson was. As a kid from the inner city in NY, this man was him. As a kid you never really know what it means to be inspired but man, I wanted to be just like Allen. Seeing that man fight amongst the trees in the court gave the little me motivation to succeed. His game transcends the game of basketball as he touched many lives. Anyone that knows chuck, knows he’s very emotional and in tune. Well, your fans love you more then you could imagine chuck. We thank you for your service that you given humanity. An icon for sure.
The man who made me fall in love with basketball. Not just his heart, handles and finishing at the rim, but his style and attitude. Immense
Dude you have such a gift for story-telling. Love your stuff.
Indeed. There's lots of others making bball vids out there (...or here? lol), and some do make an exceptional work too in their own merit, but what makes this dude stand out is his very distinct story-telling style. His vids may not be packed with stats and all that - he though does extensive reasearch related to the charcters that his vids are about and presents it in the nicest way. It's like listening to a wise old dud sharing a huge lifetime experience. And the cherry on top is that even though he does state that "this is his personal take" on whatever, it everytime is persuasive enough as if it's a professional documentary we're watching and not some YT channel's content. 🙂
Allen Iverson to me is one of the best examples of what talent and willpower alone can accomplish, an incredible phenomenon and individual who pushed envelope of what a basketball player could be, inspiring an entire new generation of hoopers with his play style, attitude, vision, physicality, and fashion… as well as why there are so many legends well ahead of him in the all time standings, once his youth ran out his body failed him thanks to the fact he didn’t do strength and conditioning training or you know practice as much as he should have. Allen himself has admitted that he could have have had a much longer run of dominance and career overall had he actually worked out more regularly, but he still left one hell of a mark for his time that is undeniable.
Your videos have the production value that come from entire companies. This sounds like something I'd watch on TV that ESPN funded. You're research, insight, storytelling, video editing are all exceptional. You should be immensely proud of your work
The Iverson-Carter duel is what made Iverson my favorite player ever.
Damn... You and Thinking Basketball, both putting out videos on AI is something I didn't know how much I needed
These two need to do a collaboration. That would be amazing
31:05 "And then Allen Iverson left is body". That line gave me goosebumps.
Allen Iverson and Kobe had a massive impact on the game and also culture in the early to mid 2000s
During the first few years of their careers, Kobe was nothing more than a side-note compared to A.I. - I mean no disrespect, I love Kobe. But Iverson was everything back then to us teenagers.
@@martinbuhrer3893 No offense intended, but Kobe puts AI in the ole shit-house. And I love AI. He single-handedly dragged the 76ers into that Finals, where they promptly lost to the vastly superior Lakers. Even young Kobe seemed a little bit intimidated by him.
@@bluegregory6239 None taken, but I was talking about back then. We all wanted to be like Iverson.
Dorktown episode right into clayton crowley, perfect night
"We all have to thank God that Iverson wasn't 6'6" - Kobe Bryant
Or even 6'3
The rage I felt was slowly but surely soothed as the video went on but I can only say that Allen Iverson was even more iconic than I began to think
As somebody from europe who only recently got into Basketball in really enjoyed this video. Because you hear talk about Allen Iverson so very often, but I always wondered why, what made him great? Thank god I've got Clayton.
My first time in your channel. I’m only 4:30 into this video but the detail, care, passion, and love with you crafted the way you presented this incredible story has earned you a sub and a consistent viewer. Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll grow in no time.
You're in for a treat then... Enjoy watching the rest of CC's vids.
I hope Bubba Chuck watching this somewhere with a big smile on his face. He deserves his flowers and then some.
I had never heard of this trial. That is mindblowing. Makes you appreciate his story so much more.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog. Allen Iverson had more heart than anybody on that Court during this time.
Another amazing essay, thank you once again Clay! Has to be said your narration & script are incredibly lively & portray these moments, in my opinion, perfectly for many of us that weren’t able to witness this personally. Much love ✊
AI got me into basketball and I think this is a great tribute to him. I love that you took time to talk about him being a provider for his family. Just another awesome, awesome vid from you
You, funkydiabetic, and johnny arnett keep me going!
He's back, praise the basketball Gods 😅
he’s my favorite player of all time
This video made my eyes perspire. Excellent storytelling for my favorite athlete of all time.
AI took a vote from Shaq for unianimous MVP, won an MVP during the Duncan/Kobe /Shaq era, won All Star MVPs, lead the league in scoring over Kobe, Shaq, TMac, etc., and ended the lakers 12 game playoff win streak. 33ppg in the party offs is INSANE
You, sir, carry the legacy of the storytellers of old, weaving tales of heroic struggle and sacrifice, triumph and defeat ... thank you for your videos!
AI and Kobe’s culture impact of the 2000’s was INSANE! It’s cool that they played each other in the finals
To be fair… AI played against Kobe and SHAQ
@@n13kpolkthey don’t ever wanna acknowledge that they act like it was a fair 1 on 1 superstar vs superstar type series
to be fair, kobe definitely did what he was accused of.
Liked before I could start watching the videos. The effort you put into these videos, the editing, and narration…. you’re going places and I’m glad I’m along for the ride.
Claxton is one of the best story tellers in nba history, his talents and efforts are thrown into your face in ever single vid he makes. I just wish he had more coverage over his videos cause this is insane. For some reason, he knows how to make people I didnt really care about to become one of my most liked players. One of the best basketball channels ive ever seen. I pay my due diligence to you.
I lost it at 17:44. Of all examples to use for the NBA Hiphop connection, you couldn't have picked anyone better than the fun guy lol
babe, clayton’s back
Was listening to a bunch of Kobe essays and wondering “I wonder when he is gonna put a new video?” Then BAM!! New video and it’s about my favorite team!! Thanks Clayton!
This is such an underrated channel. You’re video production is truly top notch and you deserve to have millions of subscribers.
As a Sixers fan I didn't think I could be more impressed with you after watching your Julius Erving video. I am man enough to admit I was wrong and I'm officially more impressed!

We talkin about perfection man! Great video man
Awesome man. I love this series as a fan who's only gotten into ball since the bubble.
Amazing video
You dropping vids is like AI dropping a routine 40-piece; yet again, you prove to be the best basketball storyteller on this platform brother, great work!
Great video.

Finally. I appreciate how long you must work on these, but damn I been waiting for some new fucking content. Love it.
Great video. A superstar in a small package. So much heart.
Clayton, your passion for basketball and film-making is truly special. You are the best basketball content creator on the planet and you have a special way with words.
Clayton, you nailed it again!!! I remember the day after 2001 Finals Game 1 defeating THE Lakers.
Truly a greater accomplishment than most entire Playoff-Runs....
Great vid, again!!! Thanks + best of luck, for your career! You are a gifted storyteller!
The transition to talking about his peak was like a great beat switch. Clean and unsuspecting.
commenting for the algorithm, another clayton banger
great vid
I fucking love it when I open TH-cam and see a new video from this guy. One of the best basketball TH-camrs out there ❤
Yes thank you for saving the night Clayton🐐🐐
This is probably my favourite video youve made on an individual player. Tysm for shedding so much light on AI 👍
Very, extremely; well written, Sir !!!!
Great video, but there’s more context to Iverson’s practice rant. His best friend was murdered months before and that week the murder trial began, and he couldn’t focus on practice. He mentioned in the same press conference that he had a lot on his mind
You and Thinking Basketball droppin Iverson vids back to back? Great in depth, hoops talk and a man who tells stories like a basketball Hitchcock.
Been a minute man, glad to see you back! I think your editing has only gotten better and you've always been great at weaving stories
Dang missed a new Clayton, here for it.
You know god is good when CC releases a brand-new banger!!!!!!!!!!
