    Thanks Nathan. I love the channel. I often tried the top down setup and I love it. It's a bit hard for the model to stay in the light cone because I had a small octobox. it results sometimes with really dark eyes. The light feathering was for me a constant struggle with the model moving.
    So a cool thing to show is how to correct improper light setup, common mistake and the way to fix them
    Keep it up with your amazing work

    Love it dude! One light setups are so versatile, and they really let the model pop. It's my favourite way to go. I would love to see an episode where you talk about your backdrop setup and changing. I have my roll on a scaffold bar which is held up with two C stands, like your seems to be. I don't know if it's because I'm dumb or lazy or both but it always feels like a huge ball-ache to change a roll on your own.

    • @NathanElson
      @NathanElson  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, a huge ball-ache is exactly what it is. I do have a system that allows me to put 3 rolls on a set of c-stands which I use if I know I am going to be using multiple colors in a shoot.

    I agree with you about photographers thinking they can't do what you do because they don't have. . . My own view is you work with what you have and see what you can create. Yes it would be nice to have the large studio space and all the bells and whistles. But you can get surprisingly creative with very little gear. My wife and I went to a local conservation area and took some amazing images with her dressed in her 18th century wedding dress, we're historic reenactors. I used my nikon D7100 and a godox flash that I used off camera. Gave the images a ghost like effected in lightroom and went from there. Photography can be brutally expensive if you think you need the newest, biggest, brightest. I've seen other photographers frankly go stupid buying gear, when they should work with what they have and really learn to use that gear. Sorry didn't mean to preach. I really enjoyed your video and learned a lot. Thank you.

    I think if there's a lesson here, it's that you cant be afraid of flash if you want to shoot portraits. A z6ii and sigma 50mm isn't by any means an exotically expensive setup in 2024 especially for a pro yet it will blow away any flagship camera and glass that is shot in an uncontrolled environment with poor lighting. Flash just gives you so much sharpness, 3d pop potential, and dramatic effect, it's a crime to yourself to not give it a go.

    fun part is that you're focusing on a single point like I am doing still with some of my DSLR's :)

    Z6II user here. Why are you focus and recomposing on a mirrorless camera? You realize the points move right? They are all phase detect so they are all equal to the center point.

      The points move?! How did no one tell me this?!

    I always appreciate the effort you put into the production of your videos... I was intrigued by the smoke machine, it looked like a vape machine on steroids !! Cheers

    Nathan my dude, you're still holding on to that DSLR way of focusing huh? Seriously inquiring, you find any benefits to doing that on a mirrorless or is it just habit at this point. I catch myself sometimes doing the same.

      It's total habit, but it also never misses that way. I've used 'eye focus' and moved around the focus point so that it sits on the face but every once in a while it misses that way, and I tend to like the way re-composing makes me slow down a little.

    3:00 We're still focus/recomposing in 2024?

      I'm trying to figure out why this bothers so many people? It gets brought up all the time on my videos, so maybe you can be the lucky person to tell me why that is worth commenting on?

      It's not so much brand as it is people saying they don't own certain gear.

    thanks for the tips Nathan truly appreciated! It would be really cool to see an under 100 USD and under 50 USD (a la randomfrankp) gadgets / tech for photographer videos!!
