To be super discreet, I’ve learned to shoot from hip (stomach to be exact) with the camera just hanging innocently from my neck, and be aware of the zone range of my lens. Walk up to subject, turn your head sideways pretending looking for a target, and silently hit the shutter
It’s really not that simple. If it’s a vibrant culture you might fit in wearing orange. Also giving off a bright positive vibe can make you seem friendly while wearing black and trying to hide can seem mysterious and cause fear
Also, switching to this channel from other photography videos and you're punched in the face with generic, offensively zealous title music and over exaggerated enthusiasticism.. Next.
I had the same thought. I would try to look roughly the same, and the majority of people all seem to be wearing dark colours here. That said, another trick that seems to work is wear a hat - not a dull, ordinary baseball cap, but something like a trilby or porkpie, or something that says 'I'm the photographer, I'm a bit eccentric and outside of 'normal', this is my purpose, just accept I'm here to do a job.
Number three, Interaction, is the most genuine and respectful way to EARN a good street photograph. By being sincerely interested in your subject's work, world, life. Fear of connection makes one sneaky, aloof, and elitist . The "bonus" tip works pretty well too... Namaste, my man.
Hello pierre welcome to Nepal 🇳🇵 I'm very happy to see you here in our country. I've been following you since 2 years and i loved your every photography techniques LOT'S OF LOVE ❤
I'm loving this education series you're doing lately, Pierre! My big takeaway from this video was how to discretely take photos on the street with a DSLR (AKA shooting from the hip). I hadn't thought of carrying it in my arms that way. Thank you for the super helpful tips and safe travels!
I used that last technique when I was in Paris, France and got some good results. I am in Atlanta, Georgia and people approach me just as much as I approach them. I use a 24mm and 85mm. The 85mm lets you stay more hidden and you can get that compressed background to isolate a subject

Hey a fan from Nepal i have been following you for a long time and watching you shot on the street of Nepal is really Awesome. keep creating and keep inspiring ❤
Hello Pierre, Welcome to Nepal. Happy to see you here, a bit shocked as well. If possible, Please create a photowalk with you or meet up with all your followers from Nepal? Have fun exploring and Enjoy our beautiful country.
Super vidéo. Essayer les choses pratiquer s inspirer des conseils c est ce que j ai fait en inde il y a quelques mois et je suis content des résultats. Merci pour toutes ces vidéos très ludiques.
Thanks for those awesome tips Sir 😊❤️ Your big fan from Kolkata, India 😄 I'm also a Street Photographer who loves capturing stories like you... I hope I will meet with you someday...😇
Do you still use the GM1 70-200 or the GM2? Have you taken a look at the Sigma DG DN 70-200? Trying to find a good new telephoto, and hoping to view your opinions.
Top vidéo ! En effet les deux derniers tips je fais pareil, si il n’y avait qu’un objectif que tu prendrais en voyage pour le street, se serait lequel ?
for #2 did u shoot all these shots with longer exposure without a tripod? I assume your camera/lens has an incredible good image stabilizer or is it just your steady hands?
Main camera in description says Riii? I find that incorrect as i usually see you with the a1 lol. It is actually my favorite Sony sensor though. I returned the Riv and still use Riii's. I will probably buy more when mine crap out.
Hi Pierre, I am Into Street Photography and I really found your tips very useful to my photography. I especially like the first tip, THE INVISIBLE CORNER I am sometimes self conscious of asking people to take their photos. But I still ask people if I can take there photo. Nice night photos I like the different colours that pop out. How can anyone say no to you about being photographed, you are friendly and it comes across that way. Thanks for the tips, 😊
Yeah, a westerner with a bright orange jacket, a backpack and five grand’s worth of photographic kit in your hand. Taking invisibility to a whole new level, eh?
This is for me 😂 every time I decide to go out and do street photography, i cant full out my camera inside the bag and decided to go home. My social anxiety hit me so hard.
Hy, I just found out you are posting photos around Kathmandu which are awesome. Are you planning to visit Pokhara, Nepal as well? I would prefer to visit it is also great place to test photos on.
Hey, I've just started watching your videos around a week ago while searching for the right camera setup. Thank you for making these contents, they are really amazing. I'm planning on getting the a7iv with 16-35 mm f/2.8 GM, both used. what do you think about this setup? I have past experience with photography, especially landscape and street, trying to go back to the hobby after finishing my degree. your advice would help me a lot. Thanks
It also says he uses Riii....I don't remember the last time I saw him using a Riii lol. Also says he used 70-200 for the shots in this video. 50 12 for a few at the end. Not once is he using the 70-200. Almost looks like he has the 24-105 in some of the shots. Can't really tell on my jacked up phone screen
Hmmm "be discrete/invisible".. as if no one noticed the white guy with the red jacket and big backpack.... and no it is not a thermos in his hands.... on the other hand, I like your work ...
First thing. Slowly extend the camera around a corner. I'd be wondering if someone is trying to make me crazy. That's the creepiest thing I've seen in a long time. Who would such a thing!
😂😂said like that it does sound creepy haha but imagine you don’t want to disturb a beautiful scene. Heck could even be your family having a nice eminent and you don’t want to interrupt :)
The first and last advice are soooo creepy! I’ve been doing street photography for 7 years and never seen an actual street photography doing something like this. Fellow photographers, don’t take street photography advice from a content creator.

I go wearing black, like a true Shinobu.

Always keep moving- love that one- that's how I do it- sometimes I try to stay for something interesting to happen, but I get bored so fast!

Another technique that is overlooked is "zone focusing" which precludes any autofocus issues.
Excellent practical advice. Thank you Pierre.
Great video, Pierre. I use these techniques quite a bit in my street photography. Great advice and presentation. Cheers from Mumbai~
Great street photography tips here, if you’ve never tried it, watch these tips, and away you go. Great educational content and super images 👏👏👏

Thank you, it was interesting. Love from Iran
Came up with 5 "C"s to help remember while out on the street - Corner, Crowd, Connect, Change, Chase + Covert (Zone Focus)
Thank you for sharing so many wonderful photos and tips!
Not invisible in that bright orange jacket!
I followed your advice of chacing the light, and it really worked for me! massive thanks!!!!
toujours un plaisir tes pti tips!
Great tips and excellent photographs. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you ❤
I love the videos ❤❤❤
Thank you!
I learned so much!
Smaller camera with tiny lens helps too. Like ricoh gr3x
Thanks for those awesome tips Sir 😊❤️

Hi, I;m still here. I was one of your first fans! I actually use many of your same tips for photos on the street!!
That is awesome to see you here Roger :)) Sending you much love.
Top vidéo !

Yes up to 0.5 / 1s I can do without tripods :)
Thank uou for visiting our country love from nepal❤
Comprehensive video❤️🙏
The legend!
lots of love from Nepal 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵

Ohhh yeah I need to update that! Thanks for noticing :)

Thanks a lot!! :) Glad it helped somehow
Thanks Pierre 😊
It sure did, thanks Pierre 😊
i think making the thumbnail a shot similar to @2:27 will be more effective - nice video!
Thanks!! I thought about it but it seemed super "busy" visually. Maybe will a/b test in a day or two?
Yeah, a westerner with a bright orange jacket, a backpack and five grand’s worth of photographic kit in your hand. Taking invisibility to a whole new level, eh?
Bro, u have a lot of sick gears, gimme some 😂
Thank you very much for the tips you did an excellent job 👌👌
What lens were you using? I only have primes and can never decide which to use for street and the occasional portrait.
What lens in your opinion is best for street photography 85mm or 35mm? Any filters you recommend 🙏🏻?
This is for me 😂 every time I decide to go out and do street photography, i cant full out my camera inside the bag and decided to go home. My social anxiety hit me so hard.
Go invisible in your orange jacket 😂
On the streets of Nepal ❤️🇳🇵
Nice shots
The invisible corner … just creepy. Interaction with people, totally cool.
Do you always ask the people if they mind before posting their pic?
I have an old camera a 7D, will a newer lense make the photos better?
I am looking at 56mm 1.4 for potrait and nice bokeh. Which brand should i go ? Sigma/samyang or sony?
Welcome Nepal ❤🇳🇵
Hy, I just found out you are posting photos around Kathmandu which are awesome. Are you planning to visit Pokhara, Nepal as well? I would prefer to visit it is also great place to test photos on.
Hard to be invisible with that jacket😂
Hi Pierre! Very good and always inspiring😊
Do you prefer electronic shutter to be more descrete?
Regards, Jan from DK
Depends in day time why not - at night never because of banding.
@Pierretlambert any clue when the 30 day class will be available? Tried to enroll in the last weeks but it says that will be back soon.
Email me ;)
Superb👍

Hi!! Thanks for the kind words. Yes I can say these are great options :)
I use an 85 or 135 for street photography. What lens are you using?
It's in the description.
It also says he uses Riii....I don't remember the last time I saw him using a Riii lol. Also says he used 70-200 for the shots in this video. 50 12 for a few at the end. He used a 35mm f1.4 in this video. But I wouldn't recommend that for street though. Smaller lenses way more practical
I wish i could participate in photocourse but i alrdy spent all my money for a tx30ii and a new 35mm lens 🤣
Still great video and awesome tips!
wonderfull !!!
Many thanks!!
I've mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still... that I become invisible to the eye - Drax
Nice....very nice bro ... Goood👌👌👌👌👌
It's a shame that I didn't know about Taiwan, I learned a lot from your video
Who shoot your vlogs ?
Merci pour ces tips ! Sinon c'est ou ? Vietnam ? 🤔
Nepal!
super discreet with huge camera, clunky lens and bright colored jacket :)
Another technique... make sure your lens isn't as dirty as the street you're walking on. LOL Just kidding.... sorta. Great video. Thanks! 😀
Hmmm "be discrete/invisible".. as if no one noticed the white guy with the red jacket and big backpack.... and no it is not a thermos in his hands.... on the other hand, I like your work ...
Which country?
You will not become invisible if you are the only one in the crowd wearing a bright red jacket!
😂
I've always wanted to be a photographer but the equipment is so expensive😢
GREETINGS FROM KATHMANDU
informative video
Are you still in Nepal?
Or be like me. Stare at your target, grab a camera and take a shot and then keep staring when it gets uncomfortable for them to stare at you😂
Good❤
blend in with a crowd while wearing a bright red jacket? Well... :)
come to kolkata..
🎉🎉🎉
I see you are using a UV filter? I thought u were against UV filters?
love from nepallll
How can a trained photographer take poor photos in Nepal? That's a "scene" GOLDMINE!
I enjoyed the video, thanks!
first tip not creepy at all :))
Haha depends on how you use it. It's all about being discrete to document life without interfering with it
How can you make money from street photography?
a good tip to stay anonymous is don't wear a bright orange jacket
First thing. Slowly extend the camera around a corner. I'd be wondering if someone is trying to make me crazy. That's the creepiest thing I've seen in a long time. Who would such a thing!
😂😂said like that it does sound creepy haha but imagine you don’t want to disturb a beautiful scene. Heck could even be your family having a nice eminent and you don’t want to interrupt :)
did you really not take a foto of the guy under the table? 2:48
haha I think I never noticed until you mentioned it!!!
Are you travelling to India?
Nepal :)
👍
Or I just walk up to them and take a picture. Let’s not over complicate the process, folks.
I learned so much from this video, thank you for sharing! Please check out my street photography POV videos let me know what you think.
The first and last advice are soooo creepy!
I’ve been doing street photography for 7 years and never seen an actual street photography doing something like this.
Fellow photographers, don’t take street photography advice from a content creator.
Some photos are not sharp!!!
