my honeycomb didn't do that to my image, I'm like what camera and lens combo does he use, that it handles and intakes the light totally dif than my GH5/godox w/ softbox & honeycomb grid... It frustrates me to no end 4 years later I still can't seem to pull off the cinematic look, or even just a half professional look.
Great info - new subscriber here. Just my personal opinion: I reckon you don’t need to do the whole Peter McKinnon act in your intro and outro... you’re much more interesting just being yourself.
You read my mind. I was going to hit subscribe based on the title of the video, saw the intro and changed my mind. But changed it back again when he started acting naturally again. :)
Bro you are amazing, I can tell you're really the same guy irl, one of those dudes that make everyone happy around them, what a cool energy you have, and amazing content, extremely helpfull for what I was looking for, soon to be making videos myself. Thank you for this! All the best bro
What if you aren't able to get the light overhead would this still work, with turning down the iso? I have white walls in the room i'm shooting and do have a grid on my light.
sometimes we tend to overthink things, start by keeping it simple and then add more dynamic lighting as needed to amplify the scene or emotion you want to evoke.
@@ricofernandez18 I'm not sure that would require me seeing your setup and gear and then a more in-depth conversation but it sounds like if you have all the gear you just need to practice a lot more my friend.
You know what kal .I'm a beginner film maker and this video helped alot in my work . Almost watched the video 10 times in a month .. keep creating amazing vidz. 👍🤘
Now that's ..... the Cinematic and dramatic .... light set up, Exactly what I was looking for. I have been through lots of famous channels for light set ups and found some good ones as well but ... none of them could match this👆 pure Cinematic and dramatic look. @@kyleloftusstudios I am also trying to develop the skills of script writing and direction. I appreciate your work and looking forward to more learning opportunities.
Great video. It definitely showcases the power of the honeycomb grid. Also, I was wondering what settings were you using in your camera. Thanks in advance.
it definitely does and shooting at f2.8, shutter at 50 fps, frame rate 24fps and iso at 100-800 but just depends on the specific shot your talking about.
PERFECT PERFECT PERFECt Ever thank u so much for these amazing information no jung information no extra useless talk all amazing and cinematic never seen before ^^ THANK YOU
I came over from the beauty/makeup niche where we want all the lights, no shadows and all the colors true to color. But im working on a collab for Domestiv Violence and needed some cinematic lighting technique ideas. This hit the nail on the head!! Thanks
I really liked the content, but I'll give my two cents about the format. The editing could be a little more to the point and you could show us the before/after more times and for longer. The payoff of seeing the light finished flies by too fast. We spend 5 minutes seeing the light being built, then see the finished light for two seconds. Without proper before/after to see the difference. Thank you for the video, my comment is in good faith and I wish you all the success.
This tutorial is very helpful, I’m currently learning the basic bits bout filmmaking I’m curious what’s the name of the other light you used with the white cloth on it?
I got a pixeltube and AsteraBox a few months ago and they're absolutely insane, I just made a video on them as well because it seems like they're so underrated, more people need to know how great they are, between the portability and effects they're a bundle of joy to say the least!
Just subscribed. I'm trying to get into documentary filmmaking/cinematography and music videos. I have no idea what lights I should get but this video helped a bit. Thanks
Great video. What is the advantage of using the fill light with the key light if you are looking for the flat beauty diffused kind of lighting? I saw your other video using just one light for the flat diffused lighting look. Also which LED panel light are you using for your fill light? I do not see that in your list of equipment used. Do you miss not having bi color lighting control with the Aperture 120D light?
Am I right to assume that you were using a fill light at 8:08 for Setup #2? You didn't mention the fill light beside your camera but I'm guessing you used that fill light with the T-shirt? Fantastic results. You earned yourself a sub.
This was great! I have always wanted to get into filmmaking but I can't decide what camera to start with. Can't decide whether to use a DSLR or a mirrorless camera. I am thinking about a Canon DSLR. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you ! I don't have a large budget (The most I can spend is $700)
Got a lot from this video. It’s incredible.
This is literally a great reminder of the power of community and the importance to always pay it forward

that honeycomb grid made a massive improvement on the image.
my honeycomb didn't do that to my image, I'm like what camera and lens combo does he use, that it handles and intakes the light totally dif than my GH5/godox w/ softbox & honeycomb grid... What if you aren't able to get the light overhead would this still work, with turning down the iso? I have white walls in the room i'm shooting and do have a grid on my light.
Yes. but your likely gpoing to need neg fill flags or cutters to properly control your light
very nice & good lighting
Thank you
Nice work. Good suggestions. We’re all learning here! No one is perfect and no one knows everything.

does this work with white walls too? i have the exact same gears but mine somehow looks terrible.. what am I doing wrong? what iso did you use?
