I own a 2018 BMW. You can use the scroll wheel on the steering wheel to go through all your presets or the list of stations, including AM/FM. If you have a heads up display, it will display there. That mostly eliminates the clumsiness of using the idrive system to change stations. In addition, you can copy your settings onto a USB Drive and then download them into another BMW. This is good for service loaner cars or driving other BMWs.
Kevs2good They give you loaners for things like oil changes so you don’t have to sit there - which are free. Warranties on BMW are 50,000 miles or 5 years. I lease, the BMW leases are some of the cheapest in the business as it relates to MSRP as a % of lease payments. You may pay more for a Ford. As for reliability, since I don’t generally drive a lease car much more than 45,000 miles, I can’t opine on whether a BMW will last 200,000 miles, but I’ve owned Fords, Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Honda’s, VWs, Mazdas - maybe I’m forgetting one. The BMW is as reliable as an American car in my experience.
Great review. You can always tell when Matt gets giddy that it's a great car. But what about the wind buffering with the windows down? I've read that it's so bad that that alone is a deal breaker. I can't imagine not being able to drive with the windows down.
Thanks! The wind buffeting wasn't an issue for me until about 50 mph, and there's several inexpensive fixes for this problem from the aftermarket that attach to the side mirror area.
Glad you liked the car! Haven’t gotten to drive one but iv seen several in person and it’s such a show stopper, nothing wrong with having two sports car ;) keeps the miles low on both so in the long run it’s a good financial decision. Idk if that’s how justifying stuff works
Great review Matt! I would love to get one for my wife but I've watched a couple reviews on the 2.0 and think that would be plenty for her so hopefully beginning of next year that will happen.
U should get a Supra and maybe get in to some of the tuning for it Ik everyone on u tube is doing it but would make for some more and different content for the channel
Other than the wind buffeting thing about the new Supra and the sound system issue, I really like the car. That aside, I notice the bias in car journalists/reviewers when it comes to anything related to BMW. You say it has immediate downshifts and upshifts, but there's clearly a *VERY* noticeable delay which is much larger of a delay than on many other cars which are often criticized for their delays, even when those other cars have FAR LESS of one. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of videos on TH-cam showing this. It blows my mind! I like BMW too, but dayum! It is *FAR* from the end-all-be-all brand of vehicles. I'll never understand this. Never.
The ZF 8 speed is widely regarded as one of the best torque converter automatic transmissions, and it's not exclusive to BMW, lots of companies use it like Dodge, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Audi and Bentley. I personally haven't experienced a torque converter automatic that manually shifts faster than this one. If you have any others you think are better, please share.
It sucks because when I was younger I would dream of affording a sports car one day. Now I'm 36 and can afford one but I screwed up my back and can't get in and out of something that low.
My question would be, if it breaks out of warranty, are you going to pay BMW repair costs, or Toyota repair costs? It'll be Toyota labor (regular rate, or specialty?) but the parts are largely going to be BMW, yes? So will you still pay the infamous BMW tax even though it's a Toyota?
Kevin Davis it’s BMW. You can take it to a Toyota dealer but the electronics is BMW, drivetrain BMW, suspension BMW. The only thing Toyota are the body and logos. So when all that plastic breaks good luck.
New automatics are alot quicker and smoother now but I like the control of a manual better and just really knowing the car . But I still love this car and could probably live with it

I'd take the BMW Z4 convertible with the same engine with more horsepower for a few thousand more. I wanted a Supra with a new generation 2JZ type motor. There's just nothing about this car that excites me. Just my opinion.
This is more exciting to drive than the Miata, with more power, more grip and higher limits, but I still think the Miata is one of the most fun cars around 30k.
No, the 2021 has several revised engine components, a different exhaust manifold, different compression ratio, etc. So the 382 hp rating of the 2021 is underrated now too.
Nobody asks for rides but every once in a while the neighbors will ask about a car. Lots of people driving past the driveway were breaking their necks looking at it though haha.
So sad that they didn't take twin turbo 3.4 v6 the engine from LS500, light rwd platform from new jdm Toyota Crown and make Supra themselves. I don't care that it wouldn't straight 6. New GTR also has v6 even though original one had straight 6. But having a BMW engine in Japanese car is beyond disgraceful.
@@0Camus0 i cant imagine the absolute salt the fanboys will emit if they found their worshipped supra has a v6 instead of an i6 in an alternate universe. The BMW option is the lesser evil IMO because it's still an i6 & is quite robust. Plus i remember a survey Toyota conducted asking the public on whether they want an i6 turbo or a V6 turbo in the new supra, & almost everyone voted for the inline-6, no questions asked. So really, they've only fulfilled what the fanboys have asked.
@@usernamealreadytaken770 supra cost 55k and is loaded with features And the c8 starts at 60k, but has minimal features at that price, by the time you spec a c8 upto a supra standard, it'll be like 80k
Supra if you love great handling and much more power for just 600$ or lc for the looks and v8 noise. Personally even though i love v8 scream this supra is an amassing value for money.
Ok so I like the “Supra” and I hate to be this guy, but I’m still not a fan of the BMW tie up. A C8 Corvette is a full and complete representation of GM engineering. A 718 is a full and complete representation of Porsche engineering. An F-Type is a full and complete representation of JLR engineering. The “Supra” may be representative of Toyota tuning, but it’s not really representative of Toyota engineering, and that’s what I expect from the Supra personally and what I think a lot of other discerning enthusiasts expect, as well. This isn’t to say that I don’t like the car itself. It does look really good to me and the performance is undeniable. But I’m upset at the realities of the market that led Toyota to revive the “Supra” the way they did. Give it its own engine at the very least, then we’ll talk. Until then, it’ll be an M2 for me. Hell, I’d even rather get an M235i/M240i and tune it than a “Supra.” But I totally see how many people like Matt love it, and us car people are beggars not choosers in the market, so I guess we should take whatever we can get.
Couldn't have said it better. It's a good sports car but the GR Supra is more of a representation of BMW engineering. If Toyota had kept the FT1 name I'd be all over this car. However, I decided to pick a Camaro zl1 1le instead.
If we're talking about which car is more special that'll be the Bullit. Bullitt is engineered by Ford whereas the GR Supra is by BMW. I use to own 2013 grabber blue Boss 302 and regret selling it. The value is holding really well and even appreciating depending on condition. For the GR Supra to be special it'll have to be a special edition like perhaps a GRMN Supra with a actual M powertrain for it to hold it's value.
In what kind of sad world is a ford more special than a bmw? I've probably been in a dozen fords over the years and last thing they make you think of is advanced engineering. Smh. They make feel like I'm in a rental car immediately.
I think there was an upgraded intake manifold and higher compression, also the 2020 SUPRA dynoed at about 350whp/400bhp and the 2021 has already dynoed at 380whp, so the crank hp is gonna be mad
They detailed the engine changes in the press release. I'll be covering the changes in my review video in a couple weeks too. If you're curious to read about them though, here's the link: pressroom.toyota.com/toyota-gr-supra-races-into-2021-with-more-power-and-first-ever-four-cylinder-turbo-model/
Nah man, the b58 is great, already pushing like 750hp on stock internals, I think it'll end up being able to hold more power on stock internals then a 2jz
Dallas Grantley car looks cheesy as hell at this point speed doesn’t mater they need to make it a good looking car. This design is boring forgettable and has been done to death.
@@EM-km8em bruh how, I legit believe this is the best looking car under 200k, how does it look cheesey, how is it repetitive, thos fat rear arches, the long lights with the intended nose, the long bonnet and short rear, looks so good
Could have just put the rcf under it. Then it would be a Toyota and not just a boy racer for high school dreams. All of the fake scoops with the weak engine sound. C7 corvette price which is even faster and sounds better with a manual. What’s the point
Nobody loves the BMW Supra. The sales numbers reflect that. The reason people are beeping at you is because they've never actually seen one in the wild, especially in PA. I've seen more million dollar super-cars on the road than I have these BMW Supras. They're virtually non-existent. It's not a bad car per-se but it's a car that nobody asked for, and as the terrible sales numbers which have been dropping consistently month over month since the release show, nobody wanted. BMW enthusiasts don't want a Toyota badge, and Toyota enthusiasts don't want BMW reliability/cost. It's about as simple as that. So they can pack more power into it, but it's not going to save it. A manual transmission won't save it either. But why would somebody buy this opposed to a C8 for the same price?
I don't know why people are comparing this so much with the C8, it's much more expensive. A bare-bones C8 is 60k (for now) and one that's comparably equipped to this 56k Supra will cost you over 72k for the C8. That's a 15k difference, not insignificant. And that's assuming you can even get a C8 for MSRP, most dealers are marking them up, especially now since 2020 production got cut off early. Meanwhile there's deals for 5k off Supras, making the difference 20k. Lastly, I'll add that this car feels like it pulls just as hard as the C8 and feels smaller and more nimble in corners.
Some countries have tax based on engine displacement that can effect overall price. In my country, the supra would be much more affordable compared to the c8 just purely on engine displacement alone. Since both are imported brands, import taxes (which have ridiculous rates), apply equally to both cars.
Ultimate sign of a cool car, getting a beep or a thumbs up as you're driving.
I knew it! People were so critical of this car before the reviews came in, but not now.

No, the 2021 has several revised engine components, a different exhaust manifold, different compression ratio, etc. So the 382 hp rating of the 2021 is underrated now too.
Matt, do your neighbors ever come chat about the different cars or ask for rides? 🤔
Nobody asks for rides but every once in a while the neighbors will ask about a car. Lots of people driving past the driveway were breaking their necks looking at it though haha.
What kind of gas are you putting in that Supra?
So sad that they didn't take twin turbo 3.4 v6 the engine from LS500, light rwd platform from new jdm Toyota Crown and make Supra themselves. I don't care that it wouldn't straight 6. New GTR also has v6 even though original one had straight 6. But having a BMW engine in Japanese car is beyond disgraceful.
I think the backslash would have been worse with a v6 rather than the current B58 I6, it's like the icon of the Supra.
Get the feeling that the 2021 hp bump will be on paper only.
No. It's faster for a few reasons.
Different exhaust header design (6 port). Lower compression so probably more boost stock. Some head work as well.
When Matt said 5 ft 9 is small and I am only 5 ft 7 , dang I must be tiny
5 ft 9 is small in my country. You are tiny.
Wow how tall are you ?
@@DonCharisma93 6ft 1, which is about average for men in The Netherlands (where I'm from).
'21 Supra or pre-owned LC500? I currently have a Challenger Hellcat
Completely different cars. Supra is more of a sports car and the LC is more of a GT car.
Neither. C8 Corvette
@@dallasmellsop5488 few by me have paid over 100k for the 3lt c8s lmao too much money
Does this come with a targa top?
However, I decided to pick a Camaro zl1 1le instead.
mrjjthor Thor Thanks! Hope you’re enjoying the ZL1 1LE!
dude, ditch the bullit. the supra is just too special.
SteveRunciman lmfao. Supra is going to be more unreliable than the Mustang
Kevs2good and depreciates in value while the bullit will hold its value!no brainer.
Smh. They make feel like I'm in a rental car immediately.
milesfathi right.... Bullitt less special than a run of the mill “Supra”
did you ever feel claustrophobic or did you get used to the space
After not sitting in one for a year, it did feel a little tight the first time I sat in it, but I quickly got used to it.
Matt Maran Motoring i see I see, thank you for the response
Cool BMW
So you can either get a used GTR or a brand new Supra 🤔
That’s a tough decision
I would love to know how Toyota got the extra 50 hp
The Z4 M40i already had 385 hp from the start in the first place so it’s probably just the same tune as the Z4 M40i now.
ancient china secret
I think there was an upgraded intake manifold and higher compression, also the 2020 SUPRA dynoed at about 350whp/400bhp and the 2021 has already dynoed at 380whp, so the crank hp is gonna be mad
They detailed the engine changes in the press release. I'll be covering the changes in my review video in a couple weeks too. If you're curious to read about them though, here's the link: pressroom.toyota.com/toyota-gr-supra-races-into-2021-with-more-power-and-first-ever-four-cylinder-turbo-model/
Want to keep its production consistent so it's getting 50hp per year.
Such a good looking car, too bad Toyota dropped the ball on the powertrain.
@@EM-km8em bruh how, I legit believe this is the best looking car under 200k, how does it look cheesey, how is it repetitive, thos fat rear arches, the long lights with the intended nose, the long bonnet and short rear, looks so good
Throw a tune at it and you'll make MORE power then a 21
Throw a tune on a 21.
I love the bmw supra!!!
A moment of silence for thosewho bought the first year model
This or Corvette c8?
@Aldovino agreed.C6 or C7 over the C8.
Looks like a faster Miata
Imo it’s the best looking car
Samee, have it losers on some wheels, they look insane
I thought you loved WRX
Why can’t you have both Matt
Not enough money or space haha.
Matt, now we need you to review the 2021 Supra. Toyota has added extra Power to it
Review coming in a few weeks!
Matt Maran Motoring right on man. Thank you
You are not having fun with that car if you are getting 20 mpg. I try to stay at 15 mpg ...
This or the GTR..? Hmmmm
Could have just put the rcf under it. Then it would be a Toyota and not just a boy racer for high school dreams. All of the fake scoops with the weak engine sound. C7 corvette price which is even faster and sounds better with a manual. What’s the point
With rcf weight it'd just slow it down. It's already faster and cheaper than a RC no need to make it as slow as one.
This is the car you need and leave your wife at home.
review a Toyota Sienna

Better fuel mileage, won't be seen as much since its being made in smaller numbers to the C8,and costs less depending on the country.
BUT, did you like it?? ;)
Sell your Mustang for this car!!!! Do it!!! Or keep them both if you can afford it
