    Ive wanted a model like this for years however I lack the modeling skills to do it :(

    You did an amazing job. Please make another video with a long 360 degree view of the whole ship.

    2 questions, The fiber optic cable used the LED lights as their source? the card you used to flash the Nav lights did you build that or purchase it., Ok, one more question. every body drills a round hole instead of using the stand slot in the hull, is this just because its more convenient for the rod and the wires or could you widen the slot and use that also.

    • @dansmodeluniverse
      @dansmodeluniverse  ปีที่แล้ว

      The lighting kit, including the board, was from a UK supplier, Star Trek Lighting, great prices, great service.
      I use metal straws, sawn in half, which have a slightly bigger circumference than the rods supplied, so I widen the existing slot.

    I have the exact, same kit; but I haven't gotten around to put together; but will soon. You wouldn't happen to have a pic or diagram of the ship painted huh? I can't find a good reference point to paint my model to closely match the model used in the show. Also, for the LED lights, did you use those, off the shelf light strips that can be found at Walmart or was it a complete custom kit found online?

    • @dansmodeluniverse
      @dansmodeluniverse  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's an episode called Nightingale in season 7 wheres you can see shots of it landed in daylight. That's what I took it from. The lighting kit I got from a UK supplier, startreklighting.co.uk

      Hey Dan, I have this kit and am up to the lighting part. The kit you brought from that link, is it the reveal one? I don't see one for polar lights. Did the reveal one fit just as good?

      @@tomnewdelhi Yes the Revell one is the one I used, with a little modifying.

    Very nice ship and great video, bought mine a few days ago, would be my first serious build so Ill definitely be using this video as a guide. Did you paint the clear parts for the front of the nacelles red or is that just the lightbulb giving it that color? if so, what color did you use for it?

    • @dansmodeluniverse
      @dansmodeluniverse  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. I used Rustoleum frosted glass to give it an opaque look and then used a red led to light it.

      @@dansmodeluniverse Hello again! I noticed in the video that for the raised and accented areas you used xf23, which initially gave it a "green-ish" color, by the end of the video those parts look different, is that change in color the result of the clear coat varnish applied at the end? Thanks!

    • @dansmodeluniverse

      @@Minicreeper301 I used XF-20 medium grey. the clear coats does dull it down as well though

    Great build.! I'm going to try it. Yours looks soo clean. Did you spray it first then scratch all the lights out after.? I'm confused how you did that. Thanks

    Genuinely a piece of art. You should be proud! If its not too much trouble to ask, where do you buy your equipment, paints, etc? I tried building this myself, but I had to move mid-build and it was ruined as a result. I figure if I attempt to make it again, Id wanna do it right.

    • @dansmodeluniverse
      @dansmodeluniverse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, appreciate it. I'm from Dublin, Ireland so all my paints etc. come from my local hobby shop in Dublin City Centre, Marks Models. The lighting kit, for this model, I got from a fantastic online supplier in the UK, Star Trek Lighting, but unfortunately due to ongoing brexit nonsense, I can no longer get electronics from him. I now go with a new(ish) Irish supplier, Stargazer Models.

    Very nice!
    Any chance you could share schematics of your circuit board? I've done similar with arduino boards but they really are overkill just to add a couple of nav lights.
    I assume yours is built around a 555 timer?

    • @dansmodeluniverse
      @dansmodeluniverse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a 555 timer. Email me and i'll send you the set up.

      Your work is incredible! I just got the translucent model and I would also love to see your schematics if you would be willing to share. I'm a beginner, but I've just done some basics with soldering LEDs, Led strips, and PCB boards with a bit of programing, but I would love to see exactly how you wired the board.

    • @brookestephen
      @brookestephen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dansmodeluniverse you mentioned the lack of space inside the model, but it did come with semi transparent hull to aid in emitting internal light. Seems like a contradiction! Could you use a larger board to control the light sequences and strobes, or is there just not enough room? Maybe there's room inside/beneath the stand?

    • @dansmodeluniverse
      @dansmodeluniverse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brookestephen It was tight but room enough for the board in the saucer. The nacelles are where it got tricky. Good idea about the board in the stand, I'll keep that in mind for the future.

    How were you able to wire up lights in the nacelles with that hinge bar in the way???

    • @dansmodeluniverse
      @dansmodeluniverse  ปีที่แล้ว

      I filed the bar slightly. As they're only 30 gauge cables, they're very thin so a little of bit of filing did the trick.
