Hey Ben. I was the guy who chatted to you at around the 23 km mark. Seeing you in the wild made my marathon ! Thanks for all your great videos and d hope you have a good time in Australia. Paul
It was so very special having you here in our home town, Ben. What a brilliant, emotional video that was for me. It was my first attempt at a full marathon and I’m very proud to say I finished it without stopping. 5 months of training. 4 hours at the age of 52 wasn’t too bad. The self doubt started hitting me at about 35k but I was inspired by everyone around me, including all of the volunteers and people cheering on the side. I now know I can push harder next time. Thank you for visiting us Ben and making my first marathon even more memorable with your video. My wonderful dad was watching me the whole day from above. I could hear his voice as I crossed the finish line and had a bloody good cry. Thank you, Ben.
Congratulations and you did amazingly well.. your Dad would have been so proud. 5 months training for a 4 hour marathon at 52 is so good. Big well done from me!
Just stumbled across your channel, watched this video and realised we crossed the finish line at the exact same time, can see myself and my mate running alongside you in the footage taken from the crowd (timestamp 15:20, im the one with my hands in the air). Insane! Well done!
I'm glad you got in this year Ben ( it was a ridiculous way they decided to approach it ) and sorry to hear that Sarah didn't.. For the past ( however many years ), coming back along St Kilda Road ( and around under St Kilda Rd up that small hill past the Shrine Of Remembrance ) has been a massive issue running into the back of the half marathon runners. Even at 2hr 30 pace, you still hit the better than average 90 min halfers.. I had a bit more fun this year, stopping and talking with mates that I hadn't seen for ages. I wish I had of seen you as you went past, would have caught up to say hi.. Wasn't too far behind you in 2hr 55.. The weather was near perfect ( apart from the wind ) which is a rare thing.. Believe me, we've had every bit of weather on race day you could imagine. Great having you here finally and I'm really glad you had a great experience... Best of luck at Valencia..
Great to have you here! Glad you had a good run in our beautiful city. Ran my first ever Marathon at the tender age of 61. Thanks to you and your inspiring work. Best of luck in Valencia.
Thanks for visiting Albert Melbourne parkrun and for being so generous with your time after the event and at breakfast. The whole video is so impressive. Congratulations on an amazing run. Enjoy the rest of your time in Australia.
Was lovely to meet you and everyone at parkrun Albert park! Was great chatting and hearing everything you’ve got going on. Hopefully our paths will cross again soon!
Oh wow! Can’t believe I was out there running it with you. I took so much from your channel over the last few months to run my first road marathon. Thanks for your helpful tips 😊
Awesome! I just did the Melbourne marathon too (was my first ever one), watched a lot of your videos to prep for it, so it’s cool to know you were out there running it too
Brits just get the pronunciation wrong so often. I say that as a Brit who has been here 20 years. My father in law still gets it wrong no matter how many times I tell him!
Your enthusiasm is so infectious; my partner and I chatted to you at Albert parkrun; the queue for pics with you was longer than the token scanners! Lovely to see you, I was the embarrassing fella who tapped Sarah on the shoulder on the start line convinced that I knew her (in real life) 😂 That headwind at St Kilda was crazy. Thank you for a fantastic video summary. Luv ya work!
Pleased you had great time. I ran it too was a fantastic day. I saw you today at winchelsea outside the cafe but didn’t want to disturb you. Enjoy Australia 🇦🇺
Enjoyed that one Ben. I ran Melbourne 2022 and loved the iconic land marks along the way as an ex patriot. Friend of mine ran it yesterday too after a stint of cancer treatment. Such a legend Bartek.
So glad you've had such a lovely time in Australia and that the Melbourne weather gods looked upon you favourably! I really appreciated chatting to Sarah during Parkrun on Sunday, she's definitely inspired me to try an ultra eventually. Safe travels!
Great video Ben. Was great to meet you Saturday and the again after the race. Glad you enjoyed your time in Victoria and the Melbourne Mara. So cool to run the same race as you after seeing these videos for years from races around the world 👍
Great video mate, glad you got down for it. Was out there as well and you just got in ahead of me by a slim hour and 40 😂 But it was my first so I suppose I can get over that. Cheers mate.
Hi Ben. This is awesome. I'm currently attempting to recover from an tendon-related injury, having done the Gold Coast Marathon in under 3hrs for the first time on one of your plans. I'm still hoping to do Queenstown in just under 5 weeks, and your videos give me great inspiration and encouragement. Your comments after you did Berlin were awesome as well. Thanks for doing what you do mate!
Great video Ben! I came down to Melbourne last year from Sydney to run my current PB of 2:38:45 and really loved my time there!! Glad that you really enjoyed it there too😊 Also loved your shoutout to the IRP boys as well - listen to them each week and Julian's actions at the finish just exemplifies their legend!
Welcome to Melbourne! Hopefully you had a great tour today and glad that the weather has been great throughout! Hopefully you will be able to spend some more time in Melbourne checkout out our other runs like the ‘Tan’ as well as all the 10s in f km of trails we have winging throughout our city. Regardless, I hope you both had a great time!
Congratulations Ben. You were one of the first TH-camrs that got me running marathons. I ran Melbourne last year. It was amazing. I wish I got to run this year and bump into you. good luck mate.
Hey Ben!! I saw you earlier on in the race and thought "that guy looks very much like Ben Parkes!" Good to see that you enjoyed the race! And hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Australia!
you are by far my most favourite running youtuber. Great inspiration, no buills*it. Love the gear and the plans gave me huge pb's. Thanks for everything :)
The fact that you seem to run so easily throughout always impresses and inspires me. I recently completed a half and experienced an awful mile 11 to 12 before recovering and finishing strong ish. You seem always to be strong, amazing.
Congrats Ben!! I ran the Sydney marathon last month in the AGWC and the organisation was outstanding!! Australia knows how to put these together... the very early start (6am) and the cold were a surprise (an irishman and it was my first visit). Delighted you enjoyed and it built back confidence!!
Big fan of Ben. Taught me a lot about running. I live in Argentina now, but I’m an Aussie from Queensland. Love Melbourne. A great city that is sports mad.
Great run, Ben! So happy for you to get that one done. I didn't know you were such a big cricket fan. I'm glad you have enjoyed your time here. Have a safe trip home this week, Ben and Sarah!
Great to see Melbourne again. My first race in Australia was a 4:00 minute mile in the Stallwell Gift meet if it’s still going . Hi to all Aussies 🎉 I do enjoy watching these vids ❤
Brilliant Ben and Sarah, you are such an inspirational couple... so excited when I see your videos pop up on my feed... Honest, Emotional and relatable
It's wonderful to watch this video of the Melbourne Marathon. Next year, we'll be visiting our son in Melbourne, Australia. I hope I get the chance to run it. It's such a beautiful city.
Great run Ben 👏 your channel is brilliant. I ran a 10k race in wiltshire today and got a PB. Your inspiration and tips differently helped, so thank you 🙏
Saw you at 22ks Ben when I was at 17ks .. great seeing you IRL after watching so many of your vids! Glad you enjoyed the run. I found that last stretch back into the Northerly brutal!
Been watching your channel for the past year, as I train for my first marathon. I'm in Sydney. Great to see ya running in Australia! Have a blast mate. Get some beers into ya!
Amazing video and really showed how amazing Melbourne looks for the marathon. MCG finish line is something I can only dream of! Brilliant references to being an English Cricket supporter for that ground! Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing Ben and congratulations on a superb marathon. I lived in Melbourne for two years in the 80’s and it was great to see the city in all its glory again.
Well done Ben. Huge fan thanks so much for your very informative channel. I am so inspired by your comeback and the fact that you are always smiling. Something I forgot to do when I run.
Congratulations Ben on a great marathon run. You presented the beautiful sights of Melbourne well in your video. So glad you and Sarah came to Australia for a "cheeky 5K". David
This is awesome of you to come down to Australia 🙌, you should come back next June for the Gold Coast Marathon , love your content Ben well done mate 🇦🇺👍
Great running Ben Parkes and your major is secure when the Melbourne marathon is included in these the 7 majors. I dont quite know if its the Melbourne or the Sidney they want to include, but anyway your times when you race and all of your training is very inspiring. Today I ran a 10 k and I thought it was a hard one but thats my limit right now and I am started MAF training and I think this way to train is exellent and fits me so good so maybe I can improve along the way, Inga DK.
It was a nearly perfect morning and I’m really glad you enjoyed it. Melbourne does it so professionally yet it remains very relaxed and casual… maybe just an Oz trait!? The course itself is really good and reasonably / very fast and takes in some beautiful sights. And yes, it was a thrill to see you ‘in the wild’ powering along Beaconsfield Parade. (And you looked taller than you do in your vids 😂)
Not sure if I entertained seeing you smile all the way around a marathon course or not. I can't even smile at the finish. Then again, you really get full full value out of a pint of ale after you've hit the nearest pub. Congratulations on a great run!
Congratulations Ben 🎉 + a very well compiled vid.. i watched all of it, was engrossed! You look like you could have run faster-- like you could have made it 20 mins sooner!! Also, holding the camera and talking whilst running must be uncomfortable!... But you did it smooth!!😊 Cheers! ❤
Lovely video, as always BUT if you want an iconic finish line, you must do Athens. Proper tearjerker as you finish in the original modern Olympics stadium.

WHAT? I had no idea you were there! I ran a 3:36 PB thanks to your training plan. I would've loved to see you and thank you in person.
Well done running your PB! 🙌

I was there! It was my first marathon and it kicked my ass but managed to go sub 4. Hope you enjoyed Melbourne!

Good run Ben. Good to see my neighbourhood on one of your vids. Must work on your pronunciation of Melbourne though😂
Brits just get the pronunciation wrong so often. I say that as a Brit who has been here 20 years. My father in law still gets it wrong no matter how many times I tell him!

Thanks for showcasing this race Ben, I’ve added it to a list of must do’s now!

I had been searching for the footage of the big moose helping someone across the line, you captured it right at the end....
I finished my 1st marathon this past Sunday. Thanks for all the help in your videos.

That was brilliant! Great to see you out there on the streets of Melbourne!
Hahaha Ben that’s me yelling at you at 13:29 - very chuffed to make it into the video! What a ripper day!!!
Great video Ben. Love your incredible positivity and enthusiasm for the sport, you’re an inspiration. Keep up the good work 🙌

Yet another great marathon video and kudos to Sarah for great editing.
Congratulations Ben 🎉
+ a very well compiled vid.. i watched all of it, was engrossed! You look like you could have run faster-- like you could have made it 20 mins sooner!!
Also, holding the camera and talking whilst running must be uncomfortable!... But you did it smooth!!😊
Cheers! ❤
That feeling around the mcg is awesome
Welcome to Melbourne mate!
what a race Ben!
Everybody contains one syllable and no one can convince me otherwise.
I think it could even contain less than one syllable.
Haha yes "Hello everybody" should be 6 syllables but seems more like 1
“G’day ereoee!!”
Lovely video, as always BUT if you want an iconic finish line, you must do Athens. Proper tearjerker as you finish in the original modern Olympics stadium.
It's a great finish.. I ran it about 10 years ago :-)
You're always an inspiration Ben 🎉
Your 30K time is exactly the same time I ran today in Budapest for my first half marathon (2:01:40). Congrats and well done Ben, you inspire us!
Awesome vlogs Ben love you positivity and seeing your running adventures 🫶🏻🏃♂️😊💯💪🏻.
Keep bringing them mate got a good few of your running caps 🧢 .

Well done Ben. Keep getting it done. 👍
Sunday and Ben's video are a love story
Oh mate I wish I knew you were there! What a day and what a hard finish!!
Never ran a race there but the loop around Albert Park lake is one of the most memorable places I ever ran. You missed the MCG was an Olympic stadium too! 1956.
Congratulations. I hope to see you at NYC 🎉
Mate!! I totally didn’t realise I was running right next to you at the 5k mark (8:07) on the video in the white. I thought it looked like you but wasn’t sure and didn’t know you were running Melbourne 😂 Got my first ever sub 3 as well - awesome day 🥳
What an epic race. Congrats Ben
Well done mate. Come to Perth next time!
You had the classic Melbourne Mara experience. No corrals or seeding so your first km is your slowest as you fight your way through the crowd running 6 min k’s who thought they’d start up the front. Then trying to weave your way through the bottleneck of half marathoners coming back up StKilda Rd is always a joy from 35km or so. The race organisers need to be held accountable each year for these ongoing issues.
