    I was disappointed at that first spooky face jumpscare because the game had barely begun and the atmosphere is amazing. You could have built tension without that. It did get drastically better and I really enjoyed this game. But the quality of the scares are all over the place. From almost goofy and in your face to a quiet passing by a door. I'd love to see them more with this and lean into the beautiful atmosphere and tension they've proven they can do. That wailing was one of the scariest things I've heard in years. Shivers. Loved this! :)

      Agreed, I absolutely hate these cheap jumpscares that use really loud audio that jumpstarts the natural human reaction, honestly the worst thing in movies and games as it discharges ALL of the tension that was being built up

    • @sachaAlex
      @sachaAlex 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Though I do have to agree that building tension makes games generally better, I like how good Darkphobia Games are with their jumpscares. They also made Graveyard Shift (Gab played it recently) and for a team of only two people they do a good job. I hope that with time and budget they can make their future games more refined and less "in your face".

      I wholeheartedly agree. I feel that some elements could have been done without.
      If the connection with the aliens and the cheap jumpscares were done away with, and this was just the story of an idiot who f*cked around with a pharaoh and found out, this would be a masterful work of horror!

      @xxCrimsonSpiritxx 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@weilandloveland Agreed, I wouldn't so much do away with the whole "alien" bit, but would definitely keep it extremely vague so that players make up their own interpretations about it (maybe even not showing the pharaoh himself but just his silhouettes, and keep the focus on the queen and her servants)

    Fun fact: One of the main reasons why flash photography is a BIG no-no in the art and archeology worlds is because the flash from cameras can break down, or straight up destroy, pigmentation of paints that were used in old artwork or ancient artifacts. They've had to throw out a few priceless artworks a few decades ago iirc due to the artwork being so damaged it couldn't be repaired.
    Less likely to happen as often now with cell phone cameras using a different method of flash compared to cameras and ESPECIALLY OLD cameras, but it CAN still happen so it's frowned upon and you can be kicked out. Take those pics without flash people.

    I've seen clips of this game, and I'm glad I got to watch a playthrough. I love Egyptian Mythology. The three statues in that one room were most likely Horus, Osiris and Set. Also, the people who built the pyramids were usually paid workers, not slaves. They were actually fed well, paid, and provided shelter for them and their families. When they died they were buried close to the pyramids they built to honour them for their work. Scribes and priests too, were also well revered.

      Egypt, the son of Ham and grandson of Noah, was the progenitor of the people who settled in the fertile Nile Valley, establishing one of the most prominent ancient civilizations in human history. In Hebrew, he is referred to as Mizraim, whose descendants were the early Egyptians.
      The Flood coincides with what modern science identifies as the Younger Dryas Impact-a catastrophic climatic event that radically altered the earth’s geography and ecosystems between 10,800 and 9,600 BC. This event, marked by widespread flooding and abrupt cooling. Egypt's early civilization developed in the shadow of this event, preserving echoes of the Flood in its myths and symbols.

    As someone that follows the Ancient Egyptian deities and works with Anubis, as well is an archaeologist, the way that I was both laughing and cringing at this was something else. Not at you, of course, Sean, you keep being your awesome self! But kiiiinda tired of every Egyptian based game (horror or not) going "Oh they made these cause of Aliens", it's genuinely frustrating. The game looks great, and it's super spooky and satisfying that the greedy got their comeuppance, but I could go without the aliens part. I was really enjoying it until then. If there's anyone out there interested in doing games like this, go for it! Just please maybe forgo the "aliens made the pyramids" part, please and thank you.

      Honestly this game didn't need the alien stuff. It didn't need the dead walking around either. It had enough creepy atmosphere it could have just been about someone curious going to take photos in a place they shouldn't be in and maybe keeping the bits where the camera sees stuff that isn't there to the character's eyes.

      Yes! I'm by means no expert myself, just have a casual appreciation for ancient cultures (Egypt included obviously). And like… Even as a kid, the whole aliens thing rubbed me the wrong way because really?? They're literally in a land made of powdered rock with a river running through, and then stone beneath that powdered rock. Setting aside how much more time people had on their hands day to day, and the fact that people have always been driven to build (hence why Minecraft is as popular as it is lol), just because they're not white doesn't mean they didn't learn how to do things on their own turf. I've always felt this specific thing stems from a deep-seated insecurity from the colonizing cultures for one reason or another.

      @@mamadrxgon It's possible, Set is generally associated with the southern part of Egypt (ironically named upper Egypt), which is where Aardvarks generally are located now. It's possible they used to be more widespread up north during ancient Egyptian times when Set arose, but we just don't really know.
      However Set and the similarly headed Set animal are both depicted as being black in everything they show up in. Aardvarks are generally pretty light colored animals in comparison. The Set animal also has a pretty large body that resembles something more dog-like. Some speculate it might be an ancestor of the Seluki dog, or maybe an extinct jackal breed. There's also the possibility that it is an aardvark head on a dog's body and it's some sort of chimera like creature similar to Ammit, a griffin or a serpopard.
      Ultimately the Set/Set animal remains one of the fun little mysteries of ancient Egypt.

    Jack is referring to the Nutty Putty Incident, where a man named John Edward Jones fell into the cave headfirst and died there. On November 24, 2009, John, a 26-year-old medical student and experienced caver, entered Nutty Putty Cave in Utah with his brother and a group of friends. Nutty Putty was a well-known hydrothermal cave, infamous for its tight, twisting passageways that required extreme caution. It had been temporarily closed in 2004 due to multiple rescues and near-fatal accidents but had recently reopened with new safety measures in place.
    John, who had been exploring caves since childhood, was navigating the cave when he mistakenly entered an extremely tight, uncharted passage, believing it to be part of the cave’s known routes. As he crawled through, he found himself wedged in an incredibly narrow crevice, just 10 inches across and 18 inches high, barely larger than a human body. He was positioned headfirst at a steep downward angle, unable to move backward. His brother, Josh, attempted to pull him out, but the awkward position and lack of leverage made it impossible. With John trapped upside down, circulation to his lower body was severely restricted, and the pressure on his organs quickly became life-threatening.
    A massive rescue operation was launched, involving over 130 rescuers who worked tirelessly for 27 hours to extract him. They attempted various methods, including using a rope-and-pulley system to pull him out, but the fragile rock structure made the process extremely difficult. At one point, John was almost freed, but a pulley anchor in the cave wall broke loose, causing him to slide back into an even worse position. Trapped for over a day, exhaustion, lack of blood flow, and increasing pressure on his body took their toll. By November 25, John became unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest caused by prolonged compression and lack of circulation.
    Because of the extreme difficulty and danger involved in recovering his body, officials made the painful decision to seal the cave permanently. John’s remains were left in place, and a concrete plug was placed over the entrance, turning Nutty Putty Cave into his final resting place. The tragedy served as a stark reminder of the dangers of extreme spelunking, especially in caves with such tight, unforgiving passages.

    Last year I visited a museum in the UK which was exhibiting Ancient Egypt and exploring the topic of whether mummies and ancient Egyptian artifacts should return to the countries they were stolen from by archaeologists back in the day. As well as this, it had a specific exhibit that had three different mummies at various stages of decay since being exhumed. The last one was the saddest, as the remains of someone who was once a human being was just a pile of rubble, since archaeologists were so interested in learning about mummies that they had no regard for the preservation of the individuals they found. It upset me so much as I care for people towards the end of their life, so care after death is a big part of what I do, and to see these people who were so carefully and respectfully treated by their loved ones, in a time far less advanced than ours, just to be torn apart and used as a learning tool and then discarded by modern society once they were no longer useful; it really broke me.

    12:00 hello i am an archaeology student who had a special interest in egyptian mythology as a kid. those two **ARE ** Horus(L) and Set(R) and either the person buried, or Osiris, because of the vase shape on the Hedjet, depending on where this is set in egypt, those in Upper egypt wore the Hedjet, Osiris wore an Atef, i cant really tell. it would make more sense if it was the person buried, as Set and Horus being his personal protectors or something similar. though if it was Osiris, it would make sense as *well* because he is a deity responsible for the afterlife. it would be a TAD awkward having those two together since in myth they kinda fought each other. also strange to have Set as an afterlife guardian since he did fuck around with the afterlife, and angered Anubis
    34:04 after seeing this im more puzzled, it seems to me that shes wearing the crown of egypt united but that crown is a peshent and wouldnt be worn by a queen unless she was made Pharaoh at some point.

    The setting of the game is the real standout, I'm surprised I haven't seen more games take advantage of the awesome atmosphere ancient egypt gives, since there are a lot of cool elements in the culture you can implement. The voice acting was also great, the queen's screams were so effective. The dialogue at the end was so odd and made me think "AI?" but the rest of the game was really cool

    Some of the textures and hieroglyphs were a little rough, but holy Horus the ambiance and scares were done so well! I have to mention this. The myth of aliens being involved with the egyptians and their marvels of engineering is deeply rooted in racism and xenophobia. I'm sure it's not something most people are aware of or think about, but if you are curious to learn more there are several articles going through the history of this myth and the dangers of alt-history. The article "Close encounters of the racist kind" is a good starting point.

It ain't no myth and people who keep denying the "beyond and unknown" are just scared of finding out there's so much out there that they don't know. But oh well, the evil alien races, the illuminati that's controlling earth in the shadow obviously don't wanna human to awaken and learn the truth.

      I agree, people like to think ancient civilisations were mostly very dumb / cavemany, but the scarier idea is, that we are the same in intellectual and emotional capability and nothing really has changed in 100 000 or more years. Most people like to think they are smarter than ancient humans, to feel better about the choices they make in everyday lives.
