    This sounds so much more interesting than "the old way"! I love tinkering with my computer and actually bought parts to build a Hackintosh over ten years ago. It worked as advertised but as you stated several times, there was a fear time and time again about upgrading the OSX from one version to the next. Typically the sound would stop working or the network, and so on. In the end I just tired of all research and stuck to my Windows PC. It was all done out of curiosity at the time and I really only needed Windows. I´m looking forward to see what Hypervisor you´ll recommend and use. Yes, I clicked on "Subscribe". It's very interesting to see Type-1 hypervisor having to be able to display the VM screens on very same "server" machine. Some kind of "thin interface" to select which VM to boot and display. I've managed to run Mac OS on a VM like what was also mentioned in this video, through arch KVM but the "boot experience" is not great. It feels awkward to have a Linux running before you run the Mac VM, although I think there's a way to just script it out to auto-boot, maybe that's what LTT did afterwards. However a better experience would be to have a selection of OS/OS'es you want to boot; although I have no idea on how to fork the display into three monitors. And yes, I totally agree with this video, the future is Virtualization; even Android relies on virtualization.

    Yes, virtualisation does wonders but you can’t assign all the hardware resources to each of the machines for obvious reasons. The “old” way is done for the exact reason - using 100% of the hardware exclusively for the operating system so the user can get the same or even better performance out of the computer for much cheaper then what would need to be paid for top spec machine from Apple.

At the moment I don't run Mac virtualized but I am running Proxmox bare metal on my system and use Windows 10 as my daily OS completely virtualized and I am loving it. Better to make backups, easy way to migrate systems when I change hardware or entire computers and quickly create a snapshot before installing important updates to avoid a major crash. It is really the future

      @@dropview7013 I researched and bought all my components for a classic "old way" Hackintosh, where compatibility with macOS was essential (it's less strict building the machine this new way), basically following the recommendations on one of Morganaut's earlier videos - th-cam.com/video/9B_zYEcYHaE/w-d-xo.html. It was a very similar spec to the iMac Pro at the time.

    Pavo's OC-Gen-X has saved me a ton of time but I still approach most every OC/OSX change with trepidation. Plus migrating to a Ryzentosh introduced some application issues due to Intel specific code. For those reasons I was already planning to deploy OSX on my Proxmox server but resigned to accessing it with a virtual console. The setup you demonstrate with vm displays on a physical console is a feature I've always desired, in fact just one is enough for me. Can't wait to see how you do it!

      Oh wow, never thought you would reply. Have watched your video. I like your setup!
      Personally I have setup QEMU/KVM machine and have similar experience, but I wonder, don't we still need OpenCore for the VM? The boot screen on 17:48 looks familiar.
      Totally agree that it is much better to just backup the qcow2 disk with whole OS and copy/migrate/reuse and stuff.
      Thank you for sharing your experience with the world.
      Still think that the way you present is too clickbaity and makes things appear easier than they look.
      It took me quite some time to get used to iommu groups, fix USB current errors and get Airdrop working, so I don't agree that switching from OpenCore to virtualized OpenCore would magicaly with everything

    I have done windows gpu passtrough with kvm/qemu/libvirt for gaming before and now got interested in creating a hackintosh with opencore. I would say that both methods are somewhat difficult make and if you are more familiar with making it the old way I could see it being easier. Also even if the new way is basically same as bare metal it still not as performant and if you have weak hardware that small difference can matter.

  • @SaurikSI
    @SaurikSI 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Nice video, I have a question though: Does this method make it possible to do a hackintosh with any GPU?
    That's my problem with doing hackintosh in 2023, thanks to Apple Silicon, now GPU support is extremely limited, and you need a specific GPU (Most of them are too old) to use macOS, I was thinking maybe these hypervisors can "emulate" different GPU architectures.
    Thanks!

    I look forward to seeing a similar configuration using something like an Intel Core i9-11900 series processor - Threadripper performance and capacity are awesome, but the ~$2500 price tag just for the CPU...not so much. Also, the lower TDP and power consumption is a win for those that don't need 32 cores and 64 threads of flamethrower. :)
