I subscribe to Adobe for Photoshop and Lightroom and right now, I'm stuck with paying for a subscription that I can't upgrade anymore. This sounds like a perfect build and I've ordered parts today. The only difference I've made is 32GB's of RAM and the SSD is 512 GB's. Looking forward to an easy build and thank you very much for sharing this with us. All the details needed appear to be there.

    I bought almost the same components you use here and got it up and running yesterday. I'm a photographer and I play guitar a lot. For both of those activities I demand a bit from my computers and so far it seems this one is hitting the mark for me. I was concerned about underbuilding, but those concerns are dissipating. My old hackintosh had a 3rd gen i7 and here I'm at a 10th gen i3. For guitar, playing live into recording software, latency is always an issue, but so far my buffer size is surprisingly low. The one thing I missed in this build is bluetooth. I got the FenviT919, which set up wifi easily, bluetooth requires a connection to a USB 9 pin port on the board, but it's already in use( there's only one). I think my solution is going to be a dongle. I just want it so I can use my keyboard without hooking it up to USB. Thanks for the great video.
    On another note, my editor for my photography lives in Lisbon. I believe you're in Portugal, yes?

    • @BartechTV
      @BartechTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm glad you found the video useful. macOS runs remarkably well even on lower end hardware like a Core i3. I also missed not having bluetooth, in a previous build I was using an Asus Bluetooth dongle which allowed me to connect an Apple magic keyboard and magic mouse. It's possible to get an internal USB hub, which plugs into the motherboard 9-pin USB header and gives you multiple 9-pin headers. For example the AC-IUSBH-M3 from NZXT or the CC-9310002-WW from Corsair.
      Yes, I moved to Portugal several years ago, I live in the north near Porto. It's a beautiful country.

      Thank you. It would be great if it could. Unfortunately, the first Framework notebooks were released with an 11th gen CPU, and macOS only supports iGPU's on processors up to 10th gen. So, although there's no reason macOS couldn't be installed and boot, it would only run in VESA mode with limited VRAM and without any graphics acceleration at all.

    holy crap, this is incredible. I had no idea this was even a thing. Who would've thought that Apple is selling overpriced hardware!? No but seriously, I'm going to be doing this build. My 2020 MBP which costed like 1600 euros has only 8 gb of ram and it thoroughly pisses me off every day. Since I love mac OS though, I was about to buy a new machine for close to 3K euros. The thing is I also really like Windows and Linux. Being able to tri book MacOs, Windows and Arch would be a dream come true. Why hasn't I heard about this before. On top of that, I can save my MBP for when I actually need it.. traveling and whatnot. Thanks! I'll let you know how I get on.

    • @HamburgerHelperDeath
      @HamburgerHelperDeath ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Over priced? You can buy a M2 Mac Mini for $599 USD. There’s not many PC’s that can even touch that performance for less than a couple grand. MacBook Air M1 is $999 and M2 $1199. Apple is a bargain in some areas. And M2 can edit 4k videos flawlessly. Much better than this $300 Hakintosh.

    Hi, I was just wondering if you could give me a bit of guidance. I wasn't able to get the exact parts that you listed but I think I got the closest available equalivents:
    I was just curious if you see anything wrong with this list, for building the hackintosh with Ventura as you've so outlined in this video:
    MSI B450M-A PRO MAX (MAJ Ryzen 3XXX)
    1
    69€99
    Intel Core i3-10105 (3.7 GHz)

    DDR4 Kingston Fury Beast - 32 Go (2 x 16 Go) 3200 MHz - CAS 16

    Crucial P3 500 Go
    2 (i want to dual boot windows and mac)
    75€98
    Cooler Master MasterBox MB520 TG ARGB - Blanc
    1
    124€99
    FSP Hydro M PRO 600W
    1
    79€99
    I understand if it's too much work to verify. Either way I wanted to thank you, so thanks!

    • @avi7278
      @avi7278 ปีที่แล้ว

      And sorry but I was wondering as well, would the two 500gb ssd's be sufficient to dual boot windows and mac? And is it okay to have 32 Go of Ram instead of 16? You mentioned a 64gb max, but I wanted to be sure. I promise, that's all my questions, thanks again!

    • @russian_bot.
      @russian_bot. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@avi7278 hi. Your motherboard is for AMD (Ryzen) CPU. if you want to use Intel CPU you need a motherboard that's supports this particular generation of CPUs. Just Google "motherboard for Intel i3 10105" (you need motherboard that's supports LGA1200)
      Other parts looks good to go. I would suggest to get more storage, maybe another 250g ssd, or single 1tb ssd.

    • @BartechTV
      @BartechTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Avi,
      The B450M motherboard you listed is only suitable for Ryzen CPU's, so it won't work with your Intel Core i3. For Intel 10th Gen you need a motherboard based on Intel H410, H470, or Z490 chipsets.
      The Intel equivalent of the motherboard you listed is the MSI Z490-A PRO. This board costs around €120 to €130 new here in Europe and would work perfectly.
      The i3-10105 CPU is fine - it's the same one I used. For around €30 more you could step up to an i5-10400 which would give you an extra 2 cores and about 30% faster multicore performance. Just be sure to avoid CPU's ending in "F" as they have no integrated graphics.
      The Kingston Fury Beast RAM will work fine. The performance difference between 16GB and 32GB is quite small, though, so personally I would go with 2 x 8GB modules for 16GB total. The MSI Z490-A PRO has 4 memory slots so you can add another 2 x 8GB modules later for 32GB total if you find yourself needing more.
      The 2 Crucial NVMe drives should work well, an alternative would be the Western Digital SN750. The SN750 is around the same price, perhaps a little more, but has better write performance and higher endurance.
      The PSU is fine too.
      So, here's my list of what I would choose -
      Motherboard: MSI Z490-A PRO
      CPU: Intel Core i3-10105 or Intel Core i5-10400
      RAM: 2 x 8GB DDR4 Kingston Fury Beast (16GB total)
      SSD: 2 x WD SN750 500Gb (one for Windows and one for macOS)
      If you have any more questions let me know.

    • @BartechTV
      @BartechTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, two 500GB drives would be more than sufficient to boot Windows and macOS - even current entry-level M2 Macs only ship with 256GB drives.
      32GB of RAM is fine but as I mentioned in the other comment, the actual performance difference between 16GB and 32GB is very small in practice. You probably would even notice any improvement in most tasks. I would just get 16GB to begin with and then you can add another two modules at a later date if you find yourself running out of RAM.

    • @josephmoon2412
      @josephmoon2412 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just wanted to add to this, I followed the updated advice for components above and went for the msi z490 motherboard but I didn’t notice that it’s a larger form factor, standard atx, so it doesn’t fit in the mini atx case from the original build in the video. May be obvious to some but just thought I’d mention. Need to find a bigger case now!

  • @core36
    @core36 ปีที่แล้ว

    I started with 2 hackintosh and now I own a Mac mini, iPad and iPhone. It certainly was the cheapest way running macOS, because both pcs came right from the trash. The first one was thrown out by a company I had business with, they told me to just take it and the other one was laying in a trash bin.
    The first one was a bit involved, because the cpu and integrated gpu wasn’t supported and I had to get a dedicated gpu and a separate pcie usb3 card to get useful performance and io. The other one had a slightly newer cpu and worked out of the box with no configuration at all, even usb 3.
    As I didn’t have a Mac, I had to create my boot usb from windows. There is a script (gibmacos or something), but it forced me to use clover as the open core option was broken.

    1. What if I can't arrange an existing mac to create bootable mac drive and running commands?

    • @BartechTV
      @BartechTV  ปีที่แล้ว +20

      1. You can just use a PC.
      Download the MacOS install disk image from Apple and write it to your USB drive using Balena Etcher (www.balena.io/etcher)
      Mount the EFI partition using command line, by doing the following...
      - Open command prompt
      - type "diskpart"
      - type "list disk" and look for your USB drive
      - type "select disk x" (where x=your USB drive]
      - type "list partition" and look for your EFI partition
      - type "select partition x" (where x=your EFI partition)
      - type "assign letter = E:" - mounts the EFI partition on your PC and assigns it the drive letter E, so you can open it, and copy your EFI folder / edit the plist etc.
      The config.plist is just a text file, so you can edit it using any plist editor for Windows or in notepad.
      2. On the Olarila site, download the right EFI for the CPU architecture you're using - ie. Comet Lake for 10th gen, Rocket Lake for 11th gen, Alder Lake for 12th or 13th gen.
      If your CPU is 11th, 12th or 13th gen then you need to use a fake CPU id, which the Olarila EFI will take care of. You'll still have to ascertain what audio chipset you have and use the right audio layout. You can see a list of supported codecs and the layout id to use at github.com/acidanthera/AppleALC/wiki/Supported-codecs.
      Determine which Ethernet controller your motherboard has and delete whatever kexts you don't need from the kexts folder and from the config.plist.
      Don't get an eGPU if you're making a hackintosh. Just plug the GPU directly into a PCIe X16 slot on the motherboard. Glad that someone did an entry-level, economical Hackintosh build. I think this baremetal is better than any of the ProxmoxVE based builds. Does this setup have audio fully working i.e. for both audio-input and audio-output ? I wanted a Hackintosh only for Garageband, and the past experience with virtualized Hackintosh didn't permit that.
    Oh and one more question, do you think that this method might work with a slightly older i5-8400 (which has only 6 cores and 6 threads), which has the same IGP (UDH630) ? I have it on a MSI H310M PRO-VDH motherboard with 16GB 2400MHz RAM, and a SATA SSD of 240GB. Would this require some changes in the OpenCore Configurator stage ?

      VirtualSMC.kext - required for the hackintosh to boot.
      AppleALC.kext - required for audio.
      WhateverGreen.kext - required for graphics.
      Lilu.kext - required for the above kexts to work since they're Lilu plugins.
      As for the rest, you need to look at what hardware is on your motherboard to decide which kexts you need and which you don't. For example, my motherboard has Intel ethernet, so I don't need the two Realtek ethernet kexts nor the Atheros ethernet kexts, so I delete them. I have no WiFi or Bluetooth, so I delete AirportBrxmFixup. I leave IntelMausi.kext since I have Intel ethernet.

      @BartechTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marco,
      If you're using an H610 chipset motherboard, then you'll have a 12th or 13th gen CPU. The integrated UHD 7x0 graphics on 12th and 13th gen Intel CPU's aren't supported in macOS, so you need a dedicated graphics card. macOS Ventura and Sonoma support Polaris cards like the RX 560 / 570 / 580, Navi 5000 and 6000 cards like the RX 5600 XT, 5700 XT, 6600 XT, 6800 XT and 6900 XT.
      The cheapest GPU natively supported by Sonoma is the RX 460, which you can buy for 30 - 40 Euros used.

      Apple have by far the biggest profit margins in the industry. The average profit margin on a Windows PC is about 2.5%. Apple’s profit margin is about 43% - 17 times higher. 3:25 Random 4k @ 469MB write and 57MB read? I don't know, something seems wrong with that test. My Sabrent Rocket Q (gen 3) can only do 154MB write. Outside of Intel Optane, I've never seen speeds that high.

    • @BartechTV
      @BartechTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True. Looking at the Amorphous DiskMark FAQ, it mentions that users may see inconsistent 4K random write speeds due to the 5 second time limit on that test.
      "The five-second measurement duration time limit was added to ADM2.5 in order to avoid the impractically lengthy 4K read/write measurement time (many minutes and hours) on inherently slow hard drives, to avoid unnecessary writes on SSDs, and to be consistent with CrystalDiskMark, you may get different or inconsistent random 4K write speed results.
      The random 4K write result could be faster, slower, or about the same with the five-second limit. I suspect that this is due to how the write cache on the SSD device itself behaves."
