    This is my homemade 35km/h 300W electric bicycle experiment. It was tested on private property and is now disassembled.
    It has a 24 Volt/ 10Ah battery pack and the whole thing was put together for about 100 € ! Read more on my website: www.doityoursel... !

    To the guy who uploaded this video, thanks for uploading this video because I've been wanting to find the most simplest and cheapest way to convert a regular bicycle into an electric bicycle. I'm sure there's probably no simpler home made electric bicycle set up than in this video above. Since he put in the video about being able to drive for one hour per charge on the batteries, I would just only turn the electric motor on when I really needed it, like if I ride a bicycle long enough distance I'd turn it on when my legs got tired, or when riding a bit enough up hill. Then when I'd start coming to a bit steep enough down hill, I'd turn it on for a bit just to help get me up to a good speed and then when I'd get going down hill I'd turn it off. If a persons going to do anywhere over an hour of bike riding, to me that kind of home made electric bicycle set up is still good if you just conserve power by still pedaling as much as you can, and just letting down hills work for you instead of the motor when your going down hills.

    I really like it. So simple and not so bulky. But I guess you have no control over the speed right? It's either on or off. Of course you have your brakes and you could manually turn the motor on and off. Good job :)

    Great job. A little polishing up as you feel like, but it works as it is. And it would get about 21 mph in my world. And about an hour on a charge? And those batteries are small and light enough that you could hang a couple more on the other side and either up your speed or double your range.

    Thx for sharing, I imagine that by adding a second saddle bag & 2 more batteries you could double your run time between charges, a very simple concept. What about solar panels all over the exterior of the saddle bags charging the batteries while the bike is sitting inactive or traveling in the sunshine

    how well does it work when the tire is wet? does the loss of traction affect the efficency

  • @jasonking1284
    @jasonking1284 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's crude, but it seems to work very well. I would assume that alignment of the motor wheel with the cycle wheel is pretty critical. If only you can charge the batteries when the cycle is freewheeling, that would increase your range.

    FYI, 10Ah is a completely different measurement than 10A, in the same way that 10 light years is different than 10 years. A is current which is a flow rate, Ah is charge, which is a capacity.

  • @morlev4831
    @morlev4831 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it's better to mount motor on front wheel. This way you get propulsion on both wheels and you don't have to get off the bike to do some adjustments. Add spring loaded lever to easier connect or disconnect motor from the wheel, so motor wont slow you down when you just want to pedal by yourself (like generator on front wheel in 2:19).
    Still, great job. I'm planning to do this stuff myself.

  • @Chasehead
    @Chasehead 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you go over any large bumps could you damage the motor from the direct impact? Would it be safer for the motor if you attached it to a thick coil for shock absorption? Also wouldn't riding this in wet weather or on dirty surfaces damage or clog the system? I'd love some feedback as I plan on doing this! Being that I live in rainy and dirty Vancouver these are big concerns for me! Great video!

  • @hmartinspliff

    Very cool, nice design. How many miles can you do on a single charge just using the motor? Does this set-up wear out the tyre faster?

  • @ZephodBeeblebrox
    @ZephodBeeblebrox 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Neat BUT there are several problems.
    1. The speed is too high. I would say 15mph is the maximum speed for comfortable safety on a pushbike, particularly given their appalling brakes.
    2. It will wear out the back tyre too fast.
    3. It causes rolling resistance meaning you can't freewheel much.
    To improve this, I'd recommend using a rear wheel on the front of the bike and putting a chain drive to the motor. That will mean freewheeling is easy. I'd also use a lower powered motor with the same battery in order to keep the speed down and give longer range.
    Full marks for the attempt. I'd like to see attempt 2.

    • @ZephodBeeblebrox
      @ZephodBeeblebrox 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Starfire Technology yes, i do. I also realise that on uneven pavement and near pedestrians, 10mph is more practical and 15 is the upper safety limit

    • @kyle8952
      @kyle8952 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Then you either have no idea how slow 15MPH is or you only ever ridden a bike with shit worn out brakes. 15MPH is a fat man running.

  • @bravestarr99

    The question which bugs me, how about rain? wouldn't the friction between the motor and the tire be influenced if it is wet?

  • @bravestarr99
    @bravestarr99 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes. Simply add a second wheel between your motor and your bicycle wheel while driving down hill. That's the mechanical part. For the electric part: as you say, switch some diodes for not letting any electricity flowing into your generator/motor (back). It's known as generator circuit. Of course only pedaling will turn your trip into iron man like circumstances.

    When I saw the motor turned by the wheel because of inertia or power from pedal, I remember about regenerative braking. Just switch the motor input (+) to (-) (just switch the poles), it will become generator (even it may cause damage).

    You mean a tandem bicycle :] My guess is that either motor will fail or the battery will overheat and melt. But, it "might" work as a help drive, meaning you combine the pedal power with the electric motor power. Lets say that the rider has 80kg = 35km/h, then 200kg=14km/h, IF the speed vs load is reverse linear, but I seriously doubt that a 300W motor has enough power or torque to do it, unless you do some kind of transmission. But hey, I'm only guessing, don't take this too seriously. Cheers
