    Your comment at 20:20 reminds me that there was this one time when I left my desk to get a drink, and upon my return discovered my 3-year-old son adding quite a bit of extra India Ink to a comic book submission that was-IMHO-already done.
    So enamored by this ebon medium, he didn't limit this addendum to my 12+hour pen & ink effort. Additional contents of the ink tub were liberally distributed throughout the living room where my drafting table resided. It ended up on the desk, carpet, walls, curtains, sofa and even a few drops on the ceiling. Understand, this is from a creature not yet reaching 36-inches in height.
    Surprisingly, he wasn't even giggling or enjoying himself. It was like watching an intense artist at work. At this moment I was certain that Satan and Jackson Pollock sired a devil-child together, then sent it into my life to thwart any attempts that might lead to an illustrating career. The bit of ink dribbling from his befouled maw rounded out the scene quite effectively.
    As far as our children are concerned, some days as a parent can only love them, but love them we must ... and continue to do so without regret.

    One more thing if you want to keep really nice and healthy posture aside from what Adam said (i have the same setup) is a gym ball. It's really the cheapest chair that you could imagine and it keeps you straight perfectly (otherwise you slide to the sides). The extra movement of your lower back also helps a lot to remove that tension (I have really bad problems with my lower back and I was searching through a lot different chairs and ball is the best). One thing to remember is to buy a propper ball to your height. I'm 182 cm and I need 90cm wide ball to have my knees at 90 degree angle.

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a ball as well, it's an excellent suggestion. They even make gym ball chairs - bit more pricey

    Hey Daniel (can't reply on your comment) - I've been on the Intuos 4 for years, worked on the Intuos Pro at the college I teach at. The entire Wacom line of tablets are extremely reliable and well-built. Responsiveness is perfect, you can't go wrong. I'd always opt out of the "touch" version of any Wacom product however, not worth the money.

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Adam Duff LUCIDPIXUL Oh for sure, don't jump into a Cintiq yet if you're just starting out - just grab an intuos. The Cintiq is most definitely "worth the money" but it's not a necessary purchase until you have the money for it. Many of the greatest masterpieces in digital art out today were done using an intuos, and it'll save you thousands of dollars.

      I just got the stronger ergotron arm (I ll tell you if really "stands" the weight or not) in any case, I found a superbe site to have your keyboard...or a second keyboard if you want just a small one to put it on the cintiq(on the top) with a tray that can be easily moved and removed from the cintiq. for those users that still need a lot of shortcuts and cant live without one. here the link:
      www.gizmotweak.com/Reviews.html. I still havent got it (its one its way )but the feedback about my doubts has been awesome. Thank you for the review, I ll tell you how everything goes just in case you want to incorporate it to your set up.

    Hi Adam Great review of the 27 inch cintiq. I have a bad spinal injury and I bought the 24HD touch and have been seriously hindered using it with the ergo stand. It's too darned heavy to put on an arm and so I am seriously thinking on selling to get the 27 inch version. I have to admit I hated the touch settings on the 24 HD touch and turned the feature off. Do you think its worth selling the 24 to get the 27 and have you had any experience of using the 27 on something like an arm?
    regards
    Kenny

    I did buy one recently largely on your recommendation. But I over reached and bought the touch model. And you are right - it sucks ass. Wacom's in denial about it. So, I figured I'd let them prove to me it works. They replaced the original with another Touch and it doesn't work any better. But, if it is a matter of drivers, I'm thinking it may be worth investing in the hardware so one day I'll get an update that makes Multi-touch work as it's supposed to. Of course, that may never happen. Or, if it does, it may be preceded by hardware changes. Oi! In any event, this was the best review I've seen on the product - balanced, fair, entertaining, informative. Great job, Adam. And thank you.

    Adam Hi ! in the EK settings dialog I noticed it was set to Aplications:ALL . Did you have those Photoshop keys already in it or did you set it to a Photoshop app specifically ? Also - how do you find working with the keyboard under the ErgoStand ? (I got my cintiq 27 just yesterday and the stand will come within a fortnight) . THX for the great review and tutorial.

It appears that the color management system is very good on this device and so I am hoping to use it as my primary (and only) monitor. This review was amazing!!! I myself just got the Cintiq 27QHD (Non-Touch) and am now working out how I will refine my setup from the Cintiq 13HD. Although My work is at a Professional Grade however it's now currently used Professionally in making money yet. I still feel the purchase was justified as will be most fulfilling to my life's work down the road regardless if it is my day job or not.

      +Ryan Officer Damn Ryan, not everyone is lucky enough to have a little "collection" of Cintiq's. Well I'm very happy to hear that you've treated yourself to a sweet new tool - enjoy!

    • @CreatiVastARTS
      @CreatiVastARTS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adam Duff LUCIDPIXUL Well I bought it on credit so I will still be paying for it for awhile. Now all I have to do is sell the old one to cut the cost of the new one. I'm not rich by any means just have really good rent at the moment. Just trying hard to lock in my resources for the future when life is grim.
      How do the cables work on the Ergo stand?

    • @CreatiVastARTS
      @CreatiVastARTS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ryan Officer And just as an FYI the magnets are actually in the Cintiq's bezel not the ExpressKey pad. Which I think is better and really cool. One thing I thought of was to cut up a sheet of Felt or soft material 2" larger for the top, left and right then fold in the sides 2" place a sheet of thin metal stitch that up and now you have a soft Protective Mag cover for your Cintiq when not in use.

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ryan Officer hmm, you've done your homework! That's actually very cool, I had no idea. Something I've noticed btw - if the cintiq is a bit dusty, the remote won't stick that well. You have to make sure you dust it regularly.

    • @CreatiVastARTS
      @CreatiVastARTS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adam Duff LUCIDPIXUL well I just got my Ergo Stand but for some reason the Cintiq isn't even on the table where the rubber pads are. The left side is on the desk and the right side is 1/4 inch off the desk.

  • @Sketchrcat
    @Sketchrcat 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have this same Cintiq, except that I actually DO have the touch model. I find the touch interface quite acceptable; works great for me. I think a lot of the time my fellow artists are expecting unrealistic functionality when using the touch capabilities. But to each their own. That all said, my complaint or problem with this Cintiq is with the remote; as in it doesn't want to hold / save my adjusted setting from its default settings. I program all the settings I want into the remote then close out the command settings center window and the setting revert back to the default settings on me. If I'm doing something wrong Adam please do advise me.

      +Adam Duff LUCIDPIXUL Yeah maybe i will. I have heard some different sounds about it. If you keep your screen nice and clean you won't need one. I will experience it very soon myself. Nice videos Adam. Specially the videos where u talk about art, discussing paintings is interesting. ps, after watching your videos more now, i am kinda curious what you think off my work. • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Roy Korpel That's exactly how I felt about it. Now I don't generally get sweaty hands, but I do often find this little annoying film on the screen. It does happen. Now the 27 comes with a little black cloth (similar to the one you get with an iPhone), which I find myself using constantly. I should be getting my glove in the mail today, so I"ll let you know if I like it, or if it's more of a nuisance than anything.

      +killermiller97 It's definitely something you have to save up for, often, for a LOOONG time! But you can't go wrong with an intuos, some of the greatest digital artwork out there was done on an Intuos, or alternative

    • @Dpercy
      @Dpercy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been working on an intuos pro for exactly 10 months now, It's definitely a great tool for an artist! I'm mostly in need of the extra sense of detail that the larger screen provides, wouldn't say no to using a reference screen larger than half a macbook though... Haha :)

      Thanks so much! I was toying with the idea of getting the 27QHD, but went with a 13HD instead for now since I lack desk space anyway. 22HD's too oddly priced for me to consider seriously at the moment. Thank you again for the thorough review and the reply.

    great review. thank you.
    I have an older 21UX and it puts out quite a bit of heat. Any comments on the heat produced by the 27?

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian Lape Hey Brian - that's a good question. I'd say that there's very little heat output. There's a little bit of a hotspot on the top-left along the border of where the screen hits the black edge, but apart from that, heat is never an issue for me. Regardless, even thought my hands don't generally sweat much, I do find that the moisture from my hands eventually starts to leave a little tackiness on the screen. I ended up buying a digital display glove almost right away after buying my cintiq.

    Hello Adam, First things first... Thank you a lot for all the content you put up... very cool and very helpful! Glad I subscribed to your channel! I always recommand you to my friends.
    I have a question that is not really related (not at all) to this video but maybe you are that kind to answer it. I noticed the "color picker" at the top right of PS... what version are you using? Is that a plug-in? How can it be opened? Maybe its easy, but I havent found it yet... I guess sometimes you dont see wood for the trees. ^^
    Thanks again! Keep up the good work! Always looking forward to see/hear news from you!

      +MadaArMada Hey Mada - I have used color pickers in the past, there's a great one called "magic picker" by Anastasiy..used it for years. This one however is the default color picker with Photoshop (working on Photoshop CC 2015 btw) - just go into WINDOW, then select "Color". that should work.

    Excellent video and review. I have a question. When you place the Cintiq in your lap ("Bring it off your desk"), Does the edge of the Ergo Stand go off the desk? Or does the Cintiq extend far enough from the stand? I want to get the stand to set the cintiq on my lap. I don't want an Ergotron. Thank you! :) Thumbs up!

    Hi Adam, thank you for such an in-depth review. I am a recent art school graduate and decided to take the plunge and invest in the 27qhd. However, can you elaborate a little more on the type of PC you use? I'm not having much luck researching what kind of inexpensive desktop can support it, and everyone I ask tells me I need to shell out another grand to get a custom built one. If yours runs just fine on an older model, what specs would you recommend?

    Hi Adam, thanks for this review, it helped confirm my purchase. My ergo stand arrived today but the switch underneath seems to not be working. Have you had any trouble with it? Hello Sir.
    Thanx for an excellent walk-through. It was one of the main reasons why I decided to purchase the 27QHD and the ergo stand.
    However I have one question:
    The rubber pads underneath the stand has a plastic pad put halfway on them (I hope this makes sense).
    Is those something that should be removed? They seem to be pretty stuck on...but doesn't the display/tablet just slide on the table surface if I don't peel them of?
    Hope the question makes sense :o)
    Cheers!

    Any tips for eliminating pain/discomfort in the shoulder socket when using this thing? Due to the screen size, I find it challenging to support the elbow in the same way that I did with the 13.3" cintiqs. Are you using an adjustable arm rest?

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Felidire I used to get shoulder pain on the 22hd - namely because the only position you can truly use it in is upright, forcing you you have one arm elevated all day. My suggestion for the 27qhd - get the ergo stand so you're painting with your shoulders down - keep it in as low a position as possible (as in perpendicular to your eyes, while down off the table) - this way your arm is down, comfortable position and you have easy access to the entire screen without any kind of reaching. You also want to avoid "learning" on one arm or another for any length of time - that pinches the musculocutaneous nerve that originates around the 6th and 7th cervical vertibrae and travels down the anterior deltoid, down the middle of the distal end of the bicep, around and down the middle of the anterior side of your hand. The position that I recommend in this video is what I recommend

    • @Affihnel

      +Adam Duff LUCIDPIXUL I opted for the ergotron arm because of the price difference and limited desk space, but I didn't consider that I'd be using this at around a 45º angle. For some reason I expected to use it at 80-90º, but I felt that in the shoulder within the first 3 minutes. I got a new chair and that made an immediate difference. Apparently desk shape, chair(height) and ample elbow support mean a VERY big deal, and it's easy to overlook those things when upgrading from a 13.3" cintiq. The 27" is soooo much better for neck and back posture, like you said; you notice it right away. I'd hunch and lean for hours with the companion.Thanks for the reply!

    the 27 touch i believe although not perfect the new drivers work great and ergo stand is flawless to the remote its entirely how you want to program it am so glad i got the touch its entirely worth it so glad i didn't opt for the cheaper one

      My recommendation would be the 22hd in that case, it's the next best thing. There's also the 24hd, but size and weight considered, it's a beast

    Man, I have the 27 QHD Touch and touch works pretty awesome, the same as an iPad, or Samsung S9. You may think touch sucks because the touch functionality of Photoshop or other software. Try the touch on Microsoft edge and you will see how smooth and precise it is. The problem is on photoshop and other program's touch implementation.

    How thick is the actual screen glass.
    I realised there was thickness of glass that distanced between the pen and the screen itself for 13hd.

    do you use a screen protector for this cintiq? have you found it an issue if you do/ do not? I use one for my old cintiq 22hd, and it definitely saved the device from some serious scratches from my kids, but did make it feel different. on the other hand, I did not use a protector for my cintiq companion (1st gen) and ended up wishing I had

    • @theforgedone
      @theforgedone 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I've heard that as well. Personally, I love using screen protectors. I had the first gen cintiq companion and did not use one. I tried, but it felt very bad so I took it off; it was a bad drawing experience. By the time my dog broke the companion (yes, he was rough housing and knocked the cintiq off a table, where it landed on the charging cord and made the charging port explode within the device), I noticed the area I draw the most was quite worn. It was usable and the scratches did not affect my drawing, but it was pretty visible. I ended up getting a 2nd gen cintiq companion and got a screen protector (MXH from photodon) and absolutely love it. I use a POSRUS on my 22hd and it's saved it from some massive scratches.
      You have to make sure you get a screen protector that feels good. I really have that they are needed, as drawing on cintiq's without a screen protector feels great.

    Is the performance of the Cintiq affected by how powerful the computer that is being used? I am running a 5 year old Dell Laptop and wanted to know if I should update my computer first before buying this particular Cintiq.

    Any thoughts on the new intuos line? one thing ive seen people complain about is that the stylus has no eraser on the new version, but to me (i use an intuos pro) the eraser is nearly useless - i never use it because its easier for me to just click on the eraser button than to flip the pen over

    Adam hi - Is there a way to lock the ErgoStand to a non vertical postion ? When it's in vertical you can lock and hear the loud click but I want to us it in a flat postion yet not sustained on the table (so I can reach tghe keyboard underneath)

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, it only locks vertically - it's really designed to hold in place leaning on your desk - only other option would be to prop it up on something to give it a bit of elevation, but honestly, you are honestly fine with the settings you're provided with - if you really want to be able to move it everywhere then get an ergo stand (or equivalent) but note that it might not support the weight fully, meaning that you can't lean on your Cintiq - which sucks

      +Aus R Hmmm...that's a good question and a tough one.
      Ah try this!..
      The next time the UPS truck comes barrelling down your street, jump in front of it.
      When you're in the hospital in critical condition (hopefully), proclaim to your partner that this near death experience has given you a fresh perspective on life - to live life to its fullest. Then go buy the Cintiq as your "treat to yourself for surviving a near fatal crash". Your partner will jump for joy that you are taking this terribly tragedy like a baws. ..
      Your other option is to just buy it and deal with the repercussions...
      I suggest going with option 1. Less life threatening.

    Hi, Adam!! Great video!
    I think that Wacom Cintiq 27HD is a great equipment.
    But its price is exorbitant !! In some countries the Wacom Cintiq 27HD model costs about the price of a new car.
    That's why I prefer the equipment of Yiynova, he fulfills the need and cost far less. #Studiodomingos

      Indeed, it does have to be plugged into a computer - its just a display, not a full computer. • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the HDMI is your best bet - either that or the Display port cable - USB isn't a powerful enough connection for a high rez monitor, at least the older versions. Now there's USB-C that can handle high data, but that's a very new tech that isn't implemented everywhere just yet.

    Thank you very much for the review, and solid run through of both the cintiq and the ergo stand... I've been looking through some reviews of the ergo tron stand, and I wasn't too happy about the whole wobbling thing, but all of them said that the normal ergo stand wasn't versatile enough for comfortable drawing positions, and I think that they might have either forgotten or not known about the tilt function of the lower part of the "legs" that makes it able to get closer... Now, it's always going to be a problem for me to get a comfortable drawing position because I have arthritis in my hips, so the most comfortable sitting position for my legs is yoga/meditation seated position, but I think that an ergo stand and an adjustable table is the best solution so I can adjust the table height and the ergo stand for when I'm sitting, to get as close as possible to the cintiq and when I need to stand, I can easily draw without any wobbling... :)

    Beautiful review and great sense of humor too :) I'm a director, editor and colorist and I have started to work with 4K videos, I am very interested in this Cintiq, I have a Wacom Cintiq medium tablet that I use when I edit too, do u think buying it would be justified and useful for my kind of work or it would be an unnecessary expensive gadget ! I also use an iMac retina, Dono if it have the right connections. I really hope to get your personal opinion that I value, thank u

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, well I'm not sure about your Mac, but I can speak for your 4K work. It's most definitely worthwhile - BUT - is a pressure sensitive pen display a necessity for your particular line of work?
      Also take into account that recording a 4K display will demand a serious system, excellent graphic card and processor, otherwise you'll be dealing with serious work lag.
      With all that said however, 2 months later, working on it full time - it's come to a point where I can't imagine working without it.

      @walidhoyek6758 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have also a Mac Pro 2013, 8 core with the highest graphic cards, the touch pen is good when I do some photoshop, it doesn't justify the buying I know but this tablet makes u feel more intimate with your work and somehow more in control, that's why, Dono

    No it shouldn't come with the stand, because we'd be paying for that stand and many of us don't use the stand as we mount our Cintiqs on Ergotron arms. So we'd be wasting money for a stand that will be collecting dust.

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +C. S. Christopher I get your point, and a good point at that...for the consumer. But from a Wacom perspective, they're encouraging customers to buy products from a different manufacturer instead of their own. So yeah, I definitely take your side of the argument, but I'm sure that's not Wacom's intention.
