I am a disabled person, an autistic person. I prefer identity first language just like many others. It is ableist to assume that disabled people prefer PFL and to dictate to people that they should use PFL. We dont want to be patronized.

In the real world, no one besides academia care about so called "people first language". Saying "person of color" is no different than "colored" person.

I find that interesting because I'm taking an early childhood Education class about children with special needs, and I am supposed to be learning PFL, I find your prospective interesting. I just am curious about how you feel patronized by PFL. For instance, I have a type of muscular dystrophy and it deformed my chest pretty bad, I have heard people say "the dude with the weird chest" and that is technically PFL, and it seems like a pretty normal way to describe me. id much rather that, than "the weird looking dude" id love to interview more people with special needs and find more opinions

It’s really dumb, should we stop saying “ white or black people” because they should be seen as a person first? Either way should be acceptable

@@Vastafari34 my autism is apart of me. There is no separating it from my brain. It IS me. It should not be erased. “Person with autism” makes it seem like it’s something that isn’t me. “Autistic person” feels so much better. It doesn’t separate me from myself.

@@Vastafari34 Hi, I know this comment is from a while ago, but I wanted to give my perspective. The main issue I have with PFL (as a disabled person) is that it suggests a need to remind yourself and others that someone is still human. It perpetuates the ableist ideas of disabled and disability being a bad thing that we shouldn't talk about. Identity first language is a way that people feel more comfortable with their disabilities and not feel that it is something that needs to be hidden.

I am autistic. I don't "have autism". Autism affects everything I think, say, and do. Ever. It is intertwined with my perosnality and my feelings and my thoughts, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I am autistic, and I am proud.

Hi, disabled teen here. I am disabled. I'm also likely autistic. So I'm also a person with a disability and a person who likely has autism. Person first language pushes the ableist ideology that being disabled is bad. Moreover, it pushes the idea that you need to be reminded that a disabled person is still a person. Person first language can be fine, and some people prefer it, but pushing it is backed by ableist ideas and can do much more harm than good.

I am autistic/have ASD and I dislike both identity first and person first labels, just call me by my name like any other person

Are you saying people will call you "autistic person" instead of by your name?

I personally hate PFL. It makes me feel angry and uncomfortable. It’s like they’re trying to separate it from me, when that is not possible. I am autistic. Nothing will change that. My brain is wired that way. It is me.

Just another example of neurotypicals telling us what to think
      It's very ableist

I can’t speak for others, but do not call me a ‘person with autism’ . I am an autistic person. Put my identity first, please.

This video never actually said what person first language is, only what it is not. As far as a summary of what it is, this is a horrible video.
