I know you said you wouldn’t do Armageddon 2001 but im so glad you did because of how silly the story is and how much fun the episode ended up becoming.
Oh thank god. From the context of the story, when Sal said "And then Green Arrow grabs his bow and just breaks it against...", I thought he was gonna finish it up with "the baby." In all fairness, it's Kryptonian, so it probably could've taken it.

So Sal,...a thought occurred to me of how DC could EASILY reconcile Hawkman's origin...couldn't Hawkman and Hawkgirl be Thanagarians who simply appeared in ancient Egypt (and lead to the Egyptians worshiping them and imprinting them into Egyptian mythology)? And as they were dying (perhaps by some assassination attempt), they somehow cast a Thanagarian (or Eqyptian) magical ritual that enabled them to continue to reincarnate on Earth throughout history? :P Idk if that's already been thought of, but figured I throw that out there lol
I always thought that it would be better if the ancient Egypt souls instead of going only to inhabitants of Earth also went to aliens, so the Thanagarians have Khufu and Chey-Ara's souls, making this a blend of the Golden Age origin and the Silver Age origin.
Okay I hate to be that guy, but Alan Moore didn't base Watchmen characters on the JSA. He based them on the Charleston comic heroes. So The Question became Rorschach, Blue Beetle became Nite Owl, Captain Atom became Dr Manhattan, etc. If anything, Alan Moore probably based the Minutemen characters off of the JSA.
+D.C. Stranded (Mr. Wright) DO you know what characters like Nite Owl I, Dollar Bill, Hooded Justice, The Comedian is based on more specific? like I think Silk Spectre could have been based on Black Canary or Cyclone, or maybe Silhouette was based on Black Canary. Mothman as Hawkman? Captain Metropolis as Mister Terrific?
I still have my copy that I got as a teen some months after the series came out. I live in a southamerican country and this book is one of the things, besides video games, that really got me into learning English. I remember reading it with a dictionary close by just to understand what everybody was saying. Fun times.
Geoff Johns's JSA series is one of the best series DC has ever put out. So it's OK if you personally don't like them Sal, but calling them lame is a bit much. They had some really great stories in the Johns run and I would highly recommend that series to anyone who wants to see the greatness that can come from superhero comics. Johns JSA>Morrison's JLA anyday. That being said, you guys did a really great job with this episode. I loved when Ethan flipped out about the velociraptors lol.
At 16:11 When Sal mentions how the cartoon which is obviously Justice League had Thanagarians, but later in the finale season of Justice League Unlimited they brought in Hawkman and did the reincarnated story with him and Hawkgirl
I know you guys must get a lot of fan requests, but I think an Astro City back issues series would be cool (an episode per 2-3 volumes, perhaps, they're not that long.) I think you guys would all appreciate it's portrayal of comic book mythology after all you've been through. :) And it's got some really cool stories, too.
Zero Hour is the first DC story I ever read. It took me 3 months to finish and I hated every fucking second of it. I subscribed to DC Infinite with zero DC knowledge and the first thing that caught my eye was that awesome Green Lantern cover holding all the rings. How they fumbled such a cool story that quickly I'll never understand.
Now that you guys did every crisis, you have to have another special thing every 10 episodes. Maybe Spiderman or Spawn volumes? (also you should do convergence)
thanks for the uploads Sal & company always fun to watch. Will you guys do Preacher since it's coming out on AMC in May. Keep up the good work and good luck
I know this has nothing to do with the topic of the video but I was watching your Back Issues on All Star Batman and Robin and I was wondering what Frank Miller's reasoning for the Joker killing two acrobats would be. So I delved into the insane recesses of my mind to come up with fan fictiony reason why. -Maybe the owner of Haly's Circus, fearing the Joker would attack his troop, decides to make him an offer. Mr. Haly says that he'll pay off the Joker if he doesn't attack the Circus. -Since the Joker is a dick he not only wants Haly to pay him off, but he wants the entire troop to pay him off- for their entire stay in Gotham,"it can't be a one and done situation", Joker says. -The Graysons refuse to pay, which emboldens the rest of the troop (as well as Mr.Haly) to defy the Joker. So Joker gets mad, and then get's Jocko-Boy to kill the Graysons. Idk the story's booty cheeks, and my fan fic can't save it. At least the art was fantastic!!
You know, as I recall, a Zero Hour issue was the first event comic I ever owned. Yet I never read any of it, including that issue. But I have been reading the 90's Catwoman comics, and as I recall there was something of a soft reboot after Zero Hour in it. So I was expecting this to be some big status quo changing event. Yet... nothing happened. At least in the event itself. The whole thing feels pointless, but I also kind of want to read it now, as I always assumed Parallax was just Hal but evil, but from this review, he genuinely feels more sympathetic then the "heroes", and I'd have much rather he won. Also, there was a sabertooth cat in Catwoman's series during the events of Zero Hour.
I'm convinced the only reason they did Zero Hour was that Jurgens wanted to "fix" Hawkman by making him more confusing. They also made several good comics end storylines before they were over. Valor was a fantastic book at the time, with Busiek writing and Colleen Doran doing the art, that they ended for this dumb thing before it could get a following .
I have issues zero of this that I found in a back issue bin, having no idea what it was, and I went to read it was so damn confused because apparently that's the last issue.
also if/when you do the book where hal jordan goes crazy and kills the corps dont spare the details, i really want to know what happens. also just throwing it out there, green lantern rebirth would be awesome to see on back issues
One of my favorite things about Zero Hour was, in Robin's comic, Robin!Dick shows up and confuses the fuck out of Tim!Robin, but then they're just kinda "fuck it" and fight crime until Zero Hour apparently ends and Robin!Dick disappears like what the fuck?? I had no context for that shit it was hilarious it had nothing to do with anything
A Crisis In Time.
You gotta admit that's a cool title.
It's so incredibly 90's... I LOVE IT
The amount of Langoliers references on this channel is astonishing.
It's by far my favorite reoccurring joke on the show
maybe we can create a niche of being the comic channel that makes a lot of Stephen King references. get busy living or get busy dying boys.

That's more or less what Geoff Johns had happening in JSA: Return of Hawkman. This was several years after Zero Hour, 2001-2002 or so.

@John Delorenzo a bit of a late reply but Mason's Nite Owl design is actually based off a childhood drawing Dave Gibbons did.
