Hopefully this new 8AT makes its way into the next gen GR86 as well as the Lexus lineup (once Lexus starts putting more passion, effort, and energy back into their enthusiast cars).
@@AbrahamArthemius I’d love to see this transmission paired to the V35 and squeezed into an IS or RC. The 6AT and 8AT were good enough for 2014 and 2017, but it’s crazy that those cars haven’t really received any powertrain upgrades since then (I don’t count the IS500 as a powertrain upgrade since that powertrain has more-or-less been around since 2015).
Personally, the most interesting thing this time is the LEXUS LBX MORIZO CONCEPT, which has the GR YARIS engine and drive system transplanted to it. There had been hints that Toyota was testing an eight-speed automatic on the GR Yaris at least a couple of years ago. I wouldn't be surprised we may see it on the GR Corolla as early as this fall; in fact, expect a couple GR Corollas fitted with this transmission to be undergoing EPA certification very soon.
That auto is probably one of the most interesting things in cars right now, basically a "sports" torque converter unit, and we know toyota loves their torque converters, and i do too, but i feel that one way or another this is directly helping development of other similar autos as realistically dual clutch designs are not for the normal people of the world when it comes to maintenance and upkeep, and just the 90% of city driving anyway. This transmission could be a game changer if it's as good as it sounds...even if it only matches the ZF8 in real world performance it will unlock potential we've not seen yet from Toyota. I'm really excited to see some passion coming back to the brand. I keep wondering why they don't offer the Corolla sedan with the GR power train - think Corolla Apex with GR engine/trans. Well they had the camry trd which was just a sporty sedan, nobody bought it. So they got rid of all the performance sedans as other companies like bmw do that way better. @@Jon-mo9ks have fun been a morron . Forgot you been a cry baby 😂
Gazoo Racing is the worst name ever. Love Toyota, HATE the name. Gazoo. They should’ve just stuck with TRD badging.
Don't think that matters when a good chunk of people easily use trd as trd=turd so it's practically a pick your poison with the names along with trd being noting more than a appearance package now a days while GR is now the performance package/cars that toyo has made in the last decade.
Reading the bullet points is silly.

I really hope it doesn't make it into the GR Corolla. The industry does not need more autos. It needs more manuals.
I hope it does. People who don’t want a manual shouldn’t have to get one. An auto will be objectively better for all driving except the feel for some
@@dawsongranger4940 The whole point of the car is the feel and experience. An Auto would be worse in those metrics for all.
Might as well buy a Challenger or a Camry
@@wayward03 you still have the feel and experience with an automatic. Just now with better performance. Charger is a heavy boat meant to go in a straight line and the Camry v6 is an identity crisis. A better comparison is the VW golf R. Which is auto only now because nobody wanted the manual
@@dawsongranger4940 That's sad. People really are lazy.
@@wayward03 it’s sad that you’re still trying to act superior over a transmission choice. Grow up man and stop caring about how people enjoy their cars
Pretty much everything is automatic these days. Stick to manual!!
Moving to an automatic gearbox 🤣🤣🤣
I will NEVER buy a 4 door performance car(I don't believe in performance family cars). But if they brought the 2 door Yaris(with a manual) to the US, I will have to get it.
Auto 🙅🏻♂️🤢
😢 Lame. Auto = for terds.
Nope r35 gtr has auto, mk5 Supra has an optional auto, the new z nismo has auto there a quite a bit of good sports cars with good automatic transmissions!
@warbeaver. Automatic and more are better than any manual without a question . Your comment is insulting and wrong . I am not been rude or disrespectful to you mate
@@Mylifeislegendary982VD3VUL exactly especially these new dct automatics there so fun!
