Some interesting trade scenarios for Luis Castillo, but the Mets and Red Sox proposals stand out. Mauricio’s potential is intriguing, but Casas heading to Seattle could be a franchise-changing move.
@@explosivo631ny Moving Casas would be a huge gamble for the Red Sox. But if Seattle pushes hard enough, you never know. Big trades always come with surprises!
The only semi-doable idea here is for Mountcastle+. Not sure why we aren't exploring the idea of Castillo+Ford for Vladdy+ from the Blue Jays. That would propel the Mariners to a near guaranteed division win in 2025.
Jays could give up Schneider. Castillo eats up innings which means fewer innings the Jays would have to put their terrible BP on the mound. Sold! throw in John Schneider for free. And Atkins.

I also like this trade if we don't include Pierce Johnson. Put Joe Jimenez instead to offset payroll, but we would probably need to send something better than Jesse Franklin back
I like the TRADE MACHINE! I want the Mets to get Castillo. I don’t think Mauricio will get it done. He’s gotta be 110% healthy and a larger body of work. The Boston kid is gold. If I was Seattle, I’d do that trade.
Plus Dylan Moore is literally a platoon version of Hoerner. He’s cheaper, more athletic, healthier and isn’t coming off major surgery. No rational person would adjust Hoerner @ $11m AAV with a $20m surplus in trade value.
I can't picture Castillo in a Jays uniform. It would just be odd like crooked pictures on a wall or a cat that barks. Maybe a plugged in fridge that's always empty. Wearing running shoes sockless. A meatless meatloaf. Using mountain dew instead of water in a clothes iron. It's like nah somethings not right here.
Starting with the Castillo trade value as a baseline for a trade, is a non starter. Pierzynski on Foul Territory earlier was saying in his opinion, Boston should have to add to Casas for Castillo. This is a common sense problem, not a math equation
Don't tell Ballcap that. He is as ride or die as you can get with trade values. He doesn't seem to understand common sense and not look at the current market where pitchers are making crazy money and Castillo's contract is a steal.
I don’t think that the Jays need starting pitching this year from trade or free agent like Luis castillo or Corbin Burns when we have many young pictures coming up soon like Trey yesavage, Jake bloss ,Alex manoah, Adam macko and Chad Dallas
I can't see the M's trading Castillo and a nice prospect for a one year rental of Vlad Jr. Because there is no way the cheap M's ownership would give Vlad the kind of money he's looking for.
Why does BTV have castillo's value so low? His salary (25m) is a MUCH better deal than legit every pitcher contract that's been signed so far this offseason.
I can tell you right now there are only 2 maybe 3 teams at most who are willing to trade for Castillo in general and there is only one that will be able to eat his entire salary which everyone knows lowers the prospect return for the Mariners and that’s the Mets. You can’t ignore salary when half the teams you are projecting to trade for him won’t be able to eat all his salary and Mariners would much rather take lower return and get off all his money then eat money for 3 years and not be able to spend on a bat in FA. I’ve said it since Castillo rumors came out I expect the Mets to trade for him and then the Mariners turn around and spend that money on a Teoscar, Santander or Alonso.
I think these videos are cool but the trade values are a little off. Next time I think you should use baseball trade values as more as a baseline than trying to make each side equal using those values. Baseball trade values seems to over value money in trade value, and overvalue controllable mlb players who arn’t proven
Casas is trash, luke raley is better and suits seattles ballpark. M’s already stated they’re not really looking for a 1st baseman. 2nd and 3rd. Nico is about the only guy that makes sense and Castillo is getting paid the same as manea and sevy, whose contract would you rather have….. I’ll wait
This site is awful Castillo is certainly worth more than Brash and whatever pitiful value they have him as. Also predicting us the trade Castillo and Brash for that package you lose all reputability.
I realize now my comment can be seen as harsh and rude wasn’t meant to come off this way. You seem like you know a good amount about baseball and even stated that Seattle values Castillo more than what the BTV site values him at. But you shouldn’t use BTV as the end all be all in terms for trading for X player. Understand the context of trading a player especially one of Castillo’s caliber, he’s still good and undervalued in terms of market value. The Mariners have said the trade needs to be guaranteed to make them better for 2025 and potentially beyond to agree to trade Castillo. Just my thoughts I personally just dislike this site very much as it’s easy to manipulate and lacks context to trades and values of certain players “according to the market.
@@BALLCAPSportsI’m not the first person to have an issue with their values. But just because the values come from them doesn’t make it their actual value.
@@Just_LionzYou have to understand how values are assessed. They estimate the projected WAR for the remainder of the contract and substract the amount owed to the player. What's left is the positive or negative value. This particular website gathers the high end and the low end of projections and averages both out. Currently 1 WAR is valued around $8.4M to $8.6M depending on the source, but that was before free agency started. With the way contracts are being handed out recently, it wouldn't surprise me if by the start of next season 1 WAR is valued at over $9M Castillo is projected to have a 3.5 WAR in '25, 3.2 in '26, and 2.7 in '27 so his total value is about $79M, his contract is worth $72.5M. Because value also estimates increases in WAR cost, his surplus value is over $7M. However, if WAR has a bigger jump in cost than predicted, Castillo's value could also be greater. Let's say that I'm right and WAR jumps to $9.5M per 1 WAR, then suddenly Castillo's trade value is closer to $16M - $18M, which is where the Mariners probably value him currently

I think it's Boston fans that need to get real, Casas isn't nearly as valuable right now as they all think he is. Castillo isn't a salary dump either. Castillo's current salary is a bargain for his production. Just look at what the recent starters just got in FA. If Boston wants Castillo it's going to cost Casas +.
