Pete's showing more discipline at the negotiating table this winter than he did at the plate last season versus the breaking pitch, low & away in the dirt with two strikes.
You're 100% right about Soto being clued in to plans beyond his signing. Boras has the stable of talent, including Pete Alonso, so the Soto discussions were undoubtedly wide-ranging concerning the METS future line-up
I also think you're right about a 3 year for Burnes. Especially given Stearns' resistance to long-term deals for 30 year old+ starting pitchers...Agree about Siri also...Puzzling to get a sub -.200 bat...but, what do I know...? Perhaps the METS are building a "hitting lab" to go with the vaunted (and successful) pitching lab..?? Good Channel...Subscribed and Liked...!!
Well I think the key there is the rest of the lineup is so good that we don’t have to worry about Siri. He also hits 15-20 HRs so whatever we get from him would be a plus!

@@Debi61disgusted by what exactly. Alonso numbers aren't going to get better. You disgusted they paid Soto. Is it your money. You never were in if you are walking away now
Personally, I think the Mets should aim and giving up McNeil and Baty to Seattle for Castillo, they need fielders and players who can play immediately. The DH situation could go a lot of ways, but as for 1B is concerned, I'm not giving near 30 mil per year for one especially when Vlad Jr. is up next year. I'd like to get Pete back for 25-27 mil for 4-to-5-year deal tops, but a Walker or Goldschmidt rental deal would probably be smarter considering what this line up could look like in 2026 with him in that line up. I think they have the ability to figure out a DH situation easily, it would not surprise if they make a big splash for a pitcher, and another fielder who could bolster depth for inevitable injuries and also DH (i.e.Teoscar, Santander, Profar). Ultimately, I think 2 starters are needed, with one being a clear ace, and need depth and key pieces like getting Iglesias or Winker back to field out the team a lot better.

Yeah I’d be upset too if Burnes takes 3 years and he’s not a Met! As far as DH I still want Winker back. Again this club house and chemistry was important! And as far as 1st I want Vlad Guerrero, Mets have the farm system to get it done and Cohen has the resources to lock him up long term! Marte and Winker can platoon at DH!
Pete earned a 300 something million dollar contract with what he has done so far and the playoffs he had. Better that what The Yankees are paying Judge and The Dodgers with Ohtani to choke in October.
No. I'd say Vladdy Jr is here on Opening Day 2025...METS will likely trade for him...Vladdy doesn't want to be in TOR any longer and Jayz get ungotzungool if he plays in TOR in 2025, so the Jays & Vladdy both benefit from a trade this off-season
Gotta be realistic and not dream up scenarios… it’s either Pete ( on a reasonable team contract), Walker or Santana at 1B…. Maybe Buehler or Flaherty? Maybe Scott and Pederson… all options have no compensation attached!
Signing Alonso to a long term deal is absolutely moronic. Who cares if he’s home grown the dumb fans need to stop falling in love with home grown players. If we are going to win big, not winning anything with a clumsy declining Alonso there for 8 years.. 4 years then absolutely..
Baty, Mc Neil, Mauricio and Azocar, for Vladdy Baty could grow next to Bichette, and Gimmenez. They could sign Pete to complete their new infield. Mets need pete & he will find a team. I believe Pete will get 6-7 yrs 200-225. Yankees & the Mets would make that move. I think the Yankees overpaid & teams are giving at least 1 extra year than expected. So, that’s what puts Pete in the 6-7 year contract. It’s a very big gamble that they can bring in Sosa as the Mets will probably have the MLB investigating the Soto contract with a fine fine toothed comb with all the sweeteners in it. I look at Pete and see RUN PRODUCTION not a first baseman which I think he can hang around for another few years, but ultimately becomes their DH. If you look at him as 1B then yes that extension offer makes sense. Pete’s not signing for 4 yrs. That makes no sense. He’s got his prime years. Like you just said about Walker who will either 34 or 35 next season. Pete is a run producer. He’s saved so many bad throws including some from Lindor. Pete’s a guy who is more than what the metrics say. Even so, I believe he’s going to hit at least 40/100/80 with an OPS hovering around 800. without the pressure of a contract, especially next year with someone who can actually protect him. If Marte is healthy & can still run, then you could have him bat in the 2 hole. He can still run. So, you could have 2nd & 3rd with Soto up. I like vientos or if Alvarez bounces back which I think he does to give Pete protection. Viento will clog up the bases. Pete is faster than him. He can hit, but he’s molasses on the base path. Pete has been a run producing machine & his bad yr of just missing 35+HRs 90 RBIs barely allowed judge on an mvp yr to eclipse him in run production for all of MLB since he came to the show. He’s done so so with little to no protection in some pretty bad years for the Mets. Give Pete 6-7 yrs 200-220 & an opt out after 4 sounds like a win-win. Pete may be drinking the boras Kool-ade, but this notion that Pete has no market is absolutely ludicrous. This doesn’t account for the intangibles like his love & passion for this team & city, grit & LFGM being coined by him just to name a few things he brings to the table. I think the Yankees could swoop in & take him. The Mets finally have a home grown potential 500 home runs player who can hit & get runs on the board & they want to try to edge him out in the market No one is taking an injury prone left fielder for 20 million. Mets eat at least 15 of that to get back what? I don’t know who or what people think about Marte & try to squeeze 400 at bats from him. Pederson in citi field where home runs go to die feels like JD 2.0. He gets 10-15 HRs & a lot less run production. You get that from Marte if he gives you those ABs. Reassess close to the trade deadline if that’s a need. I think winker fits this clubhouse & has chemistry with the team. Mets need to do whatever they can to get Burnes. Freed & the Yankees totally blew up the SP market. Burnes on a 7 year 220 sounds much more likely than 9 or 10 years or whatever he thinks, but the Mets need a legitimate ace, sorry Manaea ain’t it. He hit a wall about 3 months after changing his arm slot over a cy young contender. The notion of just sliding a un-athletic player to vientos over to first base where 60-75% of the plays will come to him with little to no experience & take away his best asset which is his cannon for an arm which has saved him from not so smooth moves at 3rd is a double whammy.
