@patrickmcathey7081 yes, the effect triggers at beginning of post c9mbat but read a bit further and it tells you when it actually goes off. "Additional beginning phase after this phase" which would be once postcombat main phase is done.
@@patrickmcathey7081 It's weirdly written. The effect triggers at the beginning of the post-combat main phase, but the effects of the effect don't actually apply until you end the post-combat main phase. Basically, when the PCMP starts, you just make a note that you'll be doing a beginning phase after this.

As I read it, you will still get your Post Combat Main Phase. Shadow of the Second Sun has a trigger at the beginning of the Post Combat Main that gives you an additional Beginning Phase after the Post Combat Main Phase ends. So you go start Post Combat Main, trigger Shadow, do whatever you can/want during your PC Main, then have an untap, upkeep, draw, and then move to End Phase.
Thinking of Azlask & Annihilator, for those who don't remember the rules Annihilator triggers BEFORE blockers are declared, so you can't chump block a token to stop it's advance & then sacrifice it to the Annihilation effect. This guy is DANCING in front of the ban hammer, especially for just 3 mana.
I think what also helps feel old-school about the Shadow of the Second Sun is also that this cark was shown with the old-school border. But yes - This give me Mirage era art vibes.
Maskwood Nexus, EVERYBODY gets Annihilator 1 and Indestructible! Shadow of the Second Sun is just an Enchantment version of Sphinx of the Second Sun, who does the same thing, but as a 6/6 Flier. The reason you would want to demonstrate your creatures is you get two and your opponent only gets 1. also you could have tribal boosts that your opponents would have to further break the symmetry. Ulamog only cares about the biggest card in exile. So you have one of those cards that exiles a dude from your graveyard to make a token of it or something like that, you can set your values as high as you like regardless of what your opponents have.
Shadow of the second sun gives you the additional beginning phase after the postcombat main phase. It's written weirdly like this to avoid some weird shenanigans.
Shadow of the Second Sun is just an enchantment version of Sphinx of the Second Sun. Great for blue decks as you go into your opponent's turn with an extra card and untapped lands.
Shadow of the Second Sun is pretty much like the Sphinx of the Second Sun: At the beginning of the postcombat main phase, the ability triggers, but it creates the additional beginning phase once the main one has ended. So, the turn ends up like this: •Beginning •Precombat Main •Combat •Trigger (Time when the ability can be responded to). •Postcombat main •Additional beginning (When the ability creates the extra phase) •End The wording in these cards is confusing, because the trigger happens in one phase and the extra happens in another one.
Well, spicy just got better. Not sure how much this this affects Modern with their hard focus on Commander but it surely will "force" some rotation into the format again.
If you carefully read Shadow of the Second Sun it says "At the beginning of your post combat main phase, there is an additional beginning phase AFTER this phase." So at the beginning of your post combat main phase Second Sun triggers, then you continue on with your post combat main phase, then Second Sun resolves giving you the additional beginning phase
It’s even worse if another card coming in modern horizon 3 called echoes of eternity is on the field cause it doubles triggered effects of colorless creatures making Ulamog, the Defiler a win condition.
Iread Shadow to mean that your postcombat main phase continues following the extra beginning step. It just slots in when the Shdow trigger resolves. Once those phases are done, continue with your postcombat main phase. So you can use your now untapped mana to cast new things.
This is structured the way that Sphinx of the Second Sun works. You trigger at the beginning of the post combat main phase. Then, at the end of that post combat main phase, you take an additional beginning phase. Lands untap, creatures lose summoning sickness thanks to having an upkeep, and then you trigger a draw step. Immediately after, you go to clean up. It's funky.
@chickenrichard5024 Yeah, youre right. At the beginning of the phase you get something after the end of the phase. Clunky wording. I dont like it as much, but I guess if you play a alot of instants.
