How to Enable AirDrop on an Older Mac

- To begin, launch the Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities). Once there, type in the following command to enable AirDrop on your older Mac:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser BrowseAllInterfaces 1

Legend! Airdrop had disappeared from my 2012 iMac, now it's back.

I already have the AirDrop icon in Finder. My problem is that it doesn't give me the option to be discoverable. I have a 2011 MBP.

can't connect with the i phone
2011 used bonjour for airdrop, new macs use bluetooth. So you won't be able to use airdrop. I'm in the same boat.

NOTE: i could not restart finder so i restarted the hole mac then it started working
Hey dude, thanks for this upload i am running a oldis maciMac (20-inch, Mid 2007) and i did not think that this actually worked, however it does, thanks for uploading this vid it really helped, it just shows that people wxpect that the answer is on a video that they watch but they dont really follow the correct instructions, lol worked a treat, once again cheers

It’s also happened with my MBP Pro 2010 13”, there’s only Airdrops logo but there’s no option for looking other Airdrop Apple device or can’t found by other Apple device. How to solve it ?
its amazing how difficult using apple is, and it still sells good. you literally have to start line classes to understand your Mac

This did not work on my iMac.

you would need to upgrade to bluetooth 4.0 which is about $150

hi my Imac 2011 with OS1013.6 High Sierra does not work... I tried all the steps my typing the command in Terminal and relaunch Finder.. Airdrop still does not show
it only shows the airdrop logo with no name, when i click that logo the finder crash. I have a macbook pro 2012 with os catalina (boot)
