The first successful update I’ve done in over 3 years and is only the 3rd time I’ve ever had to fix my MacBook Pro after 11 years of owning it. THE BEST LAPTOPS AROUND as in EVER!!!! @@alixmoya6241 I know this may be obvious but if you have firmware pwd turned on or time machine, or find my mac.... this thing can get stuck. Disk encryption is an sso actually that apple puts there to force people who use it to interface with the cloud. I dont think wifi driver boots in that environment so youd need to find a way to get ethernet hooked up to it. I am by no means an expert just work on mac support a little so I know a few trblshtng tips I have to rundown for Jamf EU's.

Fantastic. Thanks. I'm going to try this on my wife's iMac 27 mid-2011. I already upgrade to 20 gigs of ram and a 1tb SSD a long time ago, so that should help. The main problem we're trying to resolve is inability to update browsers and stuff. We have the old CS6 suite that is worth its weight in gold, so we don't want to lose that.

That’s the problem with apple products. They design them to fail at some point although they’re completely functional. At this point, an iPad is relatively feasible in price and does nearly the exact same things as a laptop unless you absolutely need it. I have a 2011 Mac Pro just sitting in my closet for these exact reasons and why I have not purchased any laptops…I simply use my iPad.
It was going great until I got to the point where I had to downloaded it onto a flash drive. It didn't work on my first one so I went and bought a new one and it's still not working. I've been trying to get it to work for about 5 hours in total. It unmounts the flash drive from my computer and I've erased it in recalibrated it I don't know how many times, what do I do?
@@ebu632 no, i updated mine, and the only thing that got messed up was the recovery mode. But you can use in internet recovery mode. I used a different patcher if you want to know what it is. The one I used worked and it only took an hour.

You would have to change the WiFi card because the computer will not recognize the old version with a new operating system. The WiFi will still work but things like airdrop and handoff will not work. And also recovery mode. I don’t have recovery mode, but I just use the internet recovery which is the same thing.

I’ll admit I was skeptical. I have a mid 2011 iMac 27 with i7, 16 Mb ram, and a 250 Mb SSD running Sierra. I watched the video twice before I sat down in front of my hopeless old Mac dinosaur on July 13, 2023. I pulled up this video on my iPhone and took it slowly one step at a time. I have an ATT fiber optics 1000 MBS internet connection. 4 1/2 hours later and I’m running Catalina 10.15.7 just like it’s shown in the video. I don’t know yet if it will do more current OS upgrades like Ventura, but, it actually works. Just follow the video one step at a time. Thank you Prime Tech for such an awesome video that really works. I’ll be making a donation for an upgrade you could charge for.

If you want the absolute best actually supported experience, upgrade the GPU. if you want add new thermal paste to the cpu but PLEASE new thermal paste for the gpu

Hey at the 3:15 point instead of being able to continue it says a Firmware Update is Required with the option to ignore and continue at the bottom. Should I ignore or update the firmware? It states a APFS booting support system is needed in order to run Catalina and that I would need to install macOS 10.13 High Sierra first. Can I bypass this step?
Why by me when it is by loading booting from usb it show up installing loading and on the way finish about 80% of loading it’s appeared a stop sign and that let me not continue?

Ive got an imac mid 2011 (21,5 inch) with 32gb of ram and running of a 1tb ssd, but if i install catalina with this patcher, and i install chrome and want to play for example angry birds on facebook, its slow, very very slow, its just unplayable (also in any other web browser avaiable for the mac). If i do the same with high sierra (nativly supported on the 2011) it just all runs just fine. Whats going wrong over here? ;-)

Yeah right, this just takes you into the firmware restart loop. Don’t run this on your computer, try to download 10.13 first.

iMac mid 2010 High Sierra up to Catalina that is work. I feel slow and backup iPhone date & time is wrong, but my right hand corner time is correct.

Everything worked up until 5:52 but at that point there's just a cross on my screen, any solutions? It loaded like half way and then it appeared
Go to you utility disc and change the hard drive name to APFS Volume if not erase it and then put in APFS Volume
Good lord, telling people they need a thumb drive and that they need to back up everything would have been helpful at the beginning of the video.
Always watch the videos first AND all the comments. Often videos like this get updated and they forget note the old video .

Why by me when it is by loading booting from usb it show up installing loading and on the way finish about 80% of loading it’s appeared a stop sign and that let me not continue?

if i have 4 internal drives on my mac pro tower and im only installing catilina on the main MACINTOSH HD, i wont lose the content on the other drives right?
If this is the case, you could just pull those other drives out and out back after it all works.

@@AmnestyGG make sure you 1. Install post install patches and 2. Depending on your model disable the discrete gpu (guides online)

Ive got an imac mid 2011 (21,5 inch) with 32gb of ram and running of a 1tb ssd, but if i install catalina with this patcher, and i install chrome and want to play for example angry birds on facebook, its slow, very very slow, its just unplayable (also in any other web browser avaiable for the mac). If i do the same with high sierra (nativly supported on the 2011) it just all runs just fine. Whats going wrong over here? ;-)
