Looking back, it's amazing how beat up Davey Allison was coming into this race (dislocated vertebrae and separated rib cartilage after a crash in Bristol; Davey aggravating the rib injury in a crash at Martinsville and the concussion, rib injuries and broken collarbone suffered after crashing at the finish line in the Winston)
This was my 1st race, I was 12 and my dad was taking pictures of the 2 laps before the crash up till the crash. Still have a picture of his #28 roof panel flying off from Darrell hitting him
As a pretty young nascar fan, it's crazy to me how there are accounts on insane crashes that I haven't seen in my lifetime (or in person). Thanks for the cool story!
miracle how Davey came out alive, Mark Martin said over his radio, "they might as well get a body bag for Davey." since he and many others thought he was gone.
@@bizzy24100 racin's racin' and all. But I still say DW spun him on purpose. Obviously he didnt know it was gonna get that wild but, its a pretty clear chop.

The wreck that kept Davey from running away with the championship. DW celebrating his "victory" after this race showed us all just what kind of "man" he is.
DW did nothing wrong. He pulled out first, Davey pulled out a split second later. They were just going for the same real estate at the same time. It was a racing accident and DW did not celebrate that. It was a good win for him. He drove a clean race.

If it had stayed green, Davey might have lapped the field. I was at the race sitting above turn 1, and it's crazy how big the gap was he could pull out every time there was a green flag run. He'd be going past us and you could barely see the rest of the field down the straight.
I was at the race. Been a Nascar fan since 1988. I was a huge Darrell Waltrip fan. In 1990 I finally was lucky enough to go to the July Pocono race. I dreamt about that day all year. So excited to see Waltrip in that beautiful Tide car. So a week before the Pocono race he breaks his leg in a practice session at Daytona. So my 1st race ever and I dreamt of watching Waltrip in person. So he runs one lap and than is replaced in the car by Jimmy Horton in the July 90 Pocono race . As a kid in my early teens that sucked for me. I never got to see him run a full race In that Tide Car. Now remember I was 18 at the time ( 1990 ) So I obviously never saw DW live in his prime. So my family and I always kept our Pocono July race tickets. We kept them well up until well past the 2000's. So my 3rd race I ever seen live I was rewarded by seeing Waltrip win at Pocono. He won it on fuel mileage. It was one of the most memorable days of my life. However I'll never ever forget seeing this accident happen in my binoculars. ( DW and Davey )I pretty much watched every lap that DW ran. I screamed as it happened. It was the most surreal thing I have ever see in person. I remember being sick to my stomach. You never ever ever want to see anyone crash like that. This race brings back so many great memories for me seeing my hero at (that time ) win a race.. Amazing times. I was the biggest DW fan (for an 18 year old lol) and to see him win was one of my greatest sports memories of my life. However it came at a very disheartening moment.
My 1st race in person at 12 yrs old, we have lots of pictures of the crash before during and also the aftermath, my dad n I said they were racing too hard the previous lap to not have an incident
Still think Darrell was still miffed at Davey for Bristol and that’s why he cut him no slack and turned him. He seemed like he was defending himself even though no one was accusing him of anything. You could tell he felt guilty because he probably didn’t expect the car to go over.
I do requests in that, if I *have* what you want, I'll upload it lol. For 1992, I've got 2 more Busch races and 2 more Cup races that I haven't uploaded yet. So I guess I'll do those next (well, after the 3 that I have queued up right now). Expect another Cup race from the '92 season sometime tomorrow..
DW wouldn't have been anywhere near him if the caution hadn't come out. Davey was pulling out massive leads on the entire field, which is why you barely see his car in this broadcast.
Davey Allison may not have won the championship but he proved himself a Champion in '92

I still have the original taping of that race in its entirety.
Jack, do you have any other original recordings that haven't appeared on this channel before? I'm always looking for new stuff to upload
I also have the original taping of the first truck race at Daytona in 2000
But I'm still working on the uploading part
Because I'm still new to it
I guess you have to have a HD TV with youtube on it, play the tape, and broadcast it. Trouble is, I don't have youtube on mine
I’m looking to go to pocono this year anybody got recommendations on sections ?
