Actually all Raimi's Spiderman games shares loads of assets and gameplay from the PSX/PC 2000 game " Spiderman " based on the 1994 animated series. This PSP game is no exception. It is not a game engine similarity because the PSX game does not work at all like PS2 games as it is not same " Gen ". They just coded it the same way and recycled animation assets. The game from 2000 nailed it so well that when the movie came up in 2002, they just took all the goodness from this game to produce the licenced games. I did not researched that, but I'm pretty sure they hired most of the devellopers who were behind those early PS1 games. It has a distinctive signature on it. If you look gameplay of this 2000 game, especially the Bank job and pursuit with Venom, you'll understand Why. Even the camera management is the same when on walls ! As the Raimi's franchise is the most comic accurate transcription, it serves like legitimate sequels of the 2000 games because it was already based on the animated series that was Comic accurate too.

Ya after playing the 2000 game on ps1, I can totally see how these other titles were spiritual successors to it much like bioshock to system shock!
@@pixelmushroom You totally figured it out with the Bioshock exemple ! A formula is more than reproductible and it's recommended to do so when it already works like charm. All they needed was to migrate it from PS1 to PS2 era with a dedicated engine. I have basic understanding on programming but most games of this era used same generic softwares to rig animations or else then compile it in a file format that can be integrated in any engine afterwards. With the movie licensing I can imagine that they managed to get the ownership of the work done on the PSX games made only few years before the film to do the recycling
The reason Peter's model changes in some of the cutscenes is because 2 of them are directly lifted from the console version. Specifically the accident that creates Doc Ock, and the ending scenes are from the PS2/Xbox/GC version. The rest, were created specifically for the PSP game.
Funny thing about this game… A few years ago, somebody uploaded it to the Google Play Store… Straight up, it was the game being emulated on your phone. (Not sure what emulator it used, this was the only game available- Not like you could load ROMs or anything.) It was titled something like, “Spider Hero 2 Game”.
what a great video! i remember swinging for hours in the "open world" during the mission where you have to web up a heli, since theres no time limit. i hope you cover spiderman 3 for the psp next!

I'll take this over the PC version of Spider-Man 2 any day. The PSP version is like a modified version of the first movie game. And in a way, a what if they decided to play it safe with Spider-Man 2 instead of making the open world game we got.

I think the cutscenes are great (especially for the time). They look as much like the actors as technology would allow. Edit: okay… after seeing the café scene, I take back some of what I said 😳
It was actually a very good port + the "remastered" mod texture for the game makes it appealing (to me atleast), the web slinging is just as fun since its the same as the console web slinging too, pretty good for a psp game if i say so myself
@@itsyaboidenjiatitagain5404 I did enjoy a lot of elements in this version like being able to switch suits and how the bosses wre handeled but it's so unpolished it feels like a mod for another game

This was my very first PSP game. One of my favorite Spiderman games , from the nostalgia alone.

I too have the Star wars edition PSP. I've installed homebrew on it and man I gotta say it's pretty handy on car trips 👌

The cutscenes look different at the end because they used the same cutscene as the console version, whereas the others are PSP exclusives
