Thank's @TheMultiverseSpider-Man for explaining the game was not inspired by the cartoon, but by various comics that shared a few voice actors. The link below will go to a much more in depth video on the game if you want far more accurate info about the games specifics. th-cam.com/video/YeKjTvRlJ8s/w-d-xo.html
Yes, I remember watching the cartoon, then got a PS1, and got this game. It was a blast, and possibly why I love spiderman to date. I wish they showed Venom in the movies more, like, next to Spidey so we can see the duo in the big screen. That said, from the two PS1 games, this is my favorite but I played the sequel more for some reason.
Omg you have no idea how OBSESSED I was with this game back in the day. Up to the point I would make my own noob fanfic based on the game’s story. Lol.
24:35 Mysterio stole that fog machine that doc Ock would later use to flood the city with that green fog myst something. As mentioned throughout the story Mysterio and doc Ock were working together the whole time
Great video! I actually saw your video on the movie game a few months ago and remember wondering what you might have thought of this game, and it really is a gem! I actually saw that science device once hidden away in that 'Stop the fog' level, so my theory on it was that it was a fog machine? Also I see that you don't use the jump punch/kick attack a lot which is important imo because it adds a few more layers to the combat! My favorite thing about this game is that despite the hardware limitations you can fight just the way a spiderman would fight if you can string your combos right, I'd go as far as to say that when done right the combat is right up there with the more modern Spiderman games..
Oh wow I never noticed jump attacks really at all. I'm gonna start downloading the manuals to older games to make sure I can get everything out of the game. And that's interesting about the device, might very well be a green gas machine! Thanks for the comment and views :)
I remember renting this 3 times from the old blockbuster . And I remember a few months after they had it for sale . Mind you it was a used copy but I didn’t care I wanted it and it was half off cause it was one of the ones they rented out but man the memories off this Classick .
This is my definitive characterization of Spider-Man and his villains. By the way, i don't understand why you got frame rate issues. I play this on Duckstation at 1080p and on original console at native resolution, and ive never experienced any frame rate issues.
No idea either man, most likely I set somthing up wrong. I can admit, I'm not a computer or tech guy really haha. It's a sick game, thanks for commenting bud!
Sewer levels are often the most disliked in video games and to me it was no exception for this game. I wish that it had been shorter instead and rather have more skyscrapper and indoor building levels !
@@pixelmushroom Haha ! And it was very frightening to play as a kid too, because those lizards were monstrous and tough so ambiance ( and difficulty ) climbed at a teen level at this point of the game. For a long time, I ended up replaying over and over the begining of the game without finishing it !
After watching your video I plugged in my sega dreamcast to play this masterpiece! Kind of wished you would’ve mentioned the collectibles which are actual comics! Also if you review spiderman 2 enter electro I’ll subscribe😉 Btw the Dreamcast version has the updated models e.g. Spider-Man’s web costume lines, venom and carnage have different eye patterns
Oh their will be a review for the 2nd game. I actually plan to eventually play every single spiderman game that exists! But, I also love many many different franchises so the next few videos will be a slight break from the webhead. Can't wait to earn you subscription!
Small correction the animated shows had 0 bearing on the game, the head writer has come out and said that, he wrote it based solely on his comic knowledge, any connection to the first animated show is just coincidence really, or- simply just for marketing purposes, but otherwise they have no connection at all.
Pinned for everyone to see! Thanks for the info pal. I'll take a look around for the interview but if you had it on hand and could link it as a reply in the comments that would be great!
The Games Promotion was tied with the 90s Shows. In the Trailer between the Game Parts, they cut in some scenes from the Cartoon. Only for Promotion. I'm sorry for my English, i'm from Austria.
I was responding to your last comment as I saw this lol. Ya, after I finished this one I started thinking that might have been the case! Thanks for the info as well on that last comment, it will be pinned so everyone can see! I'm much more of an artist than a programmer if you can't tell 😅
@@pixelmushroom Yeah the relation is so easy to figure if you start to Ps1 and follow up to Ps2 or PSP. It evolved, but the main core as been defined in this PSX game ! The PSP Spiderman 2 music seems to have the vibe from the Psx too despite not being same composers. Cool, glad it helped !
I would disagree that the game was heavily inspired by the Animated Series. I was I think in fourth grade when Spiderman TAS came out and I remember being massively disappointed by it. I think I was expecting something more akin to Batman TAS, not that it be dark and gritty but that it be sharply written with deep characterization. Instead, it was kind of goofy and corny. I was a giant Spiderman comic book fan at the time and so I felt letdown by what I saw as TAS failing to capture the Spidey I knew from the comics. What I loved about the Spiderman video game was that it was SUPER influenced by the comic books! All the supporting characters and costumes etc. It was like playing a comic book. Moreso than any Spidey game before or since. You just felt immersed in this comic book world. It was awesome. Even just beating up regular street thugs was hella fun.
Ya, someone else pointed that out. It was often used for marketing at the time to connect it to the cartoon and with a few of the VAs coming from the cartoon, I made an assumption. Someone else made a comment and linked and interview where the devs talk about this!
@@pixelmushroom Oh, sorry, didn't see it! Still really dug your video. Glad there are others whom remember this game so fondly.... essssspecially being licked by Venom
@@MalnourishedGoat no need to be sorry pal, glad you enjoyed the video and I love seeing such great responses to my content! Ya, I think we all know what that tongue do aha
@pixelmushroom if I had to make my best guess, from digging through my brain... it would be when, in versus, the survivor team makes it to a certain point through the map like 50%, that sorta thing, but ima do some fact checks to see if I'm right Edit: I don't think they're exactly the same... but they're so damn similar 💀
Might have been it, it's been a long time since I've had a full dive into the Ben reilly Era. I think I was mostly remembering the return of the the hood in the more recent comic run of scarlet spider where he did have a good again.
I still own this game on the Dreamcast, the graphics are way better than the PS1 version. The character models for the other characters look better on the Dreamcast / PC Versions. There is a cheat code for a “What If…” Mode in the game. Did you play the sequel “Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro”?
I have not played the sequel yet, I do intend to do more Spiderman games, although the next few videos will be unrelated to Marvel or superheroes. But I think the next spidey game I will be doing is enter electro, so if you have any pre knowledge you would like to share, all is welcome!
I don't think I heard you mention it in the video, and I don't see anyone talking about it in the comments. One of the very first things I did when I got this game as a seven year old was type cuss words into the cheats menu. I won't spoil it for you. It's understandable if you haven't done it because it's something an adult wouldn't even think to do. Go try it out and see what happens. Great funny video.
Thanks for the tip! Honestly, cheat menus have almost entirely disappeared from games so I didn't even think to put random words into the menu. I'll make a video at some point with some basic updates to things I missed from previous videos. You and many others have been so nice in telling me where I had som info wrong or missed an important bit, thank you 🙂
@@pixelmushroomHey no problem at all. This was a very well edited and hilarious video. Very entertaining. I went ahead and liked/subscribed. Looking forward to future content and seeing your channel grow.
I hear something weird about this game, anyone else feel like the symbiote should also increase your damage since it did make Peter stronger; at least in the animated series? Also 2099 should have unlimited web cause he has organic web shooters.
Oh ya, symbiote suit should totally boost damage! I mean honestly you should also be more damage resistant but probably for balance they only gave each suit a few abilities. I actually didn't know 2099 had organic webshooters, to be fair, I've only read a few 2099 comics when I was younger. Thanks for the info :)
I recommend the video game ultimate Spider-Man for the ps2 or original Xbox it’s such a incredible game I would love to hear your opinion about it ps I love this Spider-Man game as well
I very much want to, but trying to emulate it recently showed how unplayable it is. Maybe Xbox does better emulation and I believe ultimate spiderman was released on pc as well so at some point, ultimate spiderman will be reviewed! Although I do plan on review every spiderman game in existence, I will be doing reviews for other games/franchises for the next few videos as I do need a break talking about spidey!
You probably should've looked for a downloadable PC version. The graphics are significantly better than the PS1. Having said that, Doc Oc's device was used to generate the fog that blanketed the city. You can find it in the facility at the end of the game.
It was the version I played as a kid so I reviewed that one. But you're right, I'll try to get the best version I can to play of the games in the future!
@Lyla Admittedly, maybe all the versions I saw played online were the pc versions, enhanced emulation versions or original recordings that looked much better. My brain is made of mush so it's probably my mistake. Regardless, the game became much more fun when I ran it at a higher speed and wasn't making me want to puke every few minutes. It could also have been the emulator I was using. Maybe the game is supposed to run at a consistent 30 frames but the emulator couldn't do that. My bad, no intention of shitting on the game for my brains miss haps
i think you should have sourced to play this on original hardware and avoided emulation all together , it seems a lot of the review to start off was about the emulation of the game rather than the real qualities of the games gfx / sound.
