Many of the transmission repair shops purchase transmissions from junk yards and take them apart to see if they are good or not. They pressure wash them and put them on a shelf. My job as a transmission man was to clean the trans and paint it.It would take me half hour to remove and an hour to install. If it didn't work,i would replace it with another one.

  • @zachh6808
    @zachh6808 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Truth be told, that bearing is definitely not part of the transmission. Which I'm sure you've heard by now. Definitely should have been an easy diagnosis though

4 grand to not have your problem fixed? what a steal! I'm done taking stuff to mechanics for this reason, the amount of actual techs that know what they're doing is slim to none (and they're always super busy), it's one thing to pay top dollar to get something fixed and have it done right, it's another to pay top dollar and not even have the issue diagnosed (let alone fixed). A few years ago a mechanic buddy of mine said "a million billion people think they know how to fix brakes but not a single one actually does" and that's so true, I've never had a brake job done for me that didn't have multiple screwups involved, meanwhile every time I fixed my brakes after they were perfect first try. They always let your master cylinder run dry and under/overgrease pins and use junk shims, DIY or searching far and wide for an honest mechanic is a hugely worth it imo

  • @artguess9893

You should take them to small claims court, tgat aint right bro, and if you lose you only out $35 for filing, at least in TN it iz

There crooks. Took mine in there a couple of years ago and they said I need a rebuild trans. No I didn't. Moral of the story go to at least 3 trans places and find the one that's not a crook.

Yeah my torque converter in the 700R4 under my 98 K1500 went out, and I went to Edward's Transmissions and had them swap the trans because they said that it would be cheaper than tearing it down to replace the TC. So after it was all said and done, it was calculating miles alot faster than normal. And so I took it to my auto class at school and had a diagnostics test ran. Turns out, the trans they swapped into it was some generic trans that has the same bellhousing as a 700R4. I eventually got the trans swapped to a 4L60E on my own terms and everything worked out because I did the install. Nowadays, it's better to just buy the books and study everything to do it yourself, which will save much more money in the long run than to go and have a shady shop do the work. No telling what the hell they'll do.

If they replaced the Center Bearing and it is a defect they are responsible no matter what and you need to talk to their owner or Corp. Office. If not take to Mechanic and have him take picture of their work and proof of negligence and send it to Their Corp. Office with it signed by a Professional Mechanic that states that it was their Negligence and they will have to Reimburse you the difference.

For other people viewing this video. My best advice is to do research.
Ask friends, coworkers. Inquire with local car clubs & enthusiasts.
Check out online reviews and look for complaints submitted to the local business association. Unfortunately most folks situation won’t allow them to wash their car or change their oil (apartments) (HOAs) Never mind a major repair.

I would’ve put in a used one. I have a car lot and I do it all the time and in 15 years I can’t even recall one problem! A used one if negotiated for labor and junk yard cost can average 15+ fluids or $1560 ballpark for that one probably and they may even let you bring your own fluids if you know the people and get it for a lot less than the extra 60 bucks or whatever!

I didn't hear the whining. I'm having the same problem I can't figure out where it's coming from though. Sounds more like a screeching flock of birds from the transmission possibly but it only happens one or two minutes after the engine is turned on but goes away when I start driving and it also happens when in neutral rolling.

I got the transmission of my Chevy Tahoe rebuilt at AAAMCO and while I was driving home, it began to squeak and the "service engine soon" light came on. I called AAAMCO and they told me to take it back tomorrow morning. I paid $2200, which is not a high as what this guy on the video was charged but it's still a lot of money to pay and I expect my truck be repaired correctly. They should do the job properly or they shouldn't be in business.

I have a question. I have a 97 Chevy Silverado with the 4L60E. I was driving back to work and out of nowhere I started to hear a terrible grinding noise. Kind of like the sound of gear teeth rubbing and roaring against each other. As I press the accelerator the grinding noise got worse and increased with the RPM. The truck did not have any power to the real wheels. I managed to get it on the side of the road. When I put it in reverse without hitting the accelerator it grinds. When I put it in drive, or 1,2, etc it shifts perfectly fine ,but again when I hit the accelerator it starts to grind. When I shift it into drive I can feel the truck wanting to pull itself ,but of course as soon as I touch the accelerator it begins to grind and will not move. I think it may be the sun gear or the torque converter ,but I'm not sure. If anyone may kindly give me any advice it would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Couldn’t drive off the lot because the torque converter was shot. They rebuilt it again and this time it was fine but you couldn’t accelerate very fast anymore it felt like they put 2-3-4-4 gears in it

It seems to me the problem was not fixed because your problem has nothing to do with the transmission. A drive shaft bearing is not part of the transmission. AAMCO was right, the transmission is fine and don't bring it back unless you have a problem with the transmission.
You should change the title of this video. Your transmission was not whining. Not only did you waste AAMCO's time, but you wasted my time and the time of thousands of other people that clicked on your video expecting a video about a whining transmission.

    • @sircumference3325

it's because of videos like this that we can find the solutions to issues that we presuppose are caused by one system, but in reality are a part of a different system. Now i know to check my bearings when thinking something is wrong with the transmission. Don't rip this guy for wisely making the title the problem that people think they're having. This could save someone a very expensive trip to a company who in this case, did not check beyond the transmission either, and so did not supply a solution for the cost. You'd be upset too if you were in this man's shoes.

Kyle Zepeda hmm I called once last week to schedule an appointment then I was running late, called to schedule to later this day, they were cool I finally showed up with my car towed there and when I go into the office someone is cursing one of the mechanics out (not sure if it's for one of the AAMCO mechanics or another shop, but it's not looking good) I decided to take my chances after going through the hassle of towing then I was very persistent in details, prices, and for them to either not test drive or if they have to very carefully do it.
Point being I'm very picking and am not easily persuaded when it comes to my car, and they caught on.
I called back after I left the shop with my car in their hands and told them again to be careful.
2 hours later I call to check in.
They haven't looked at it, got back from lunch, will check in 20 minutes and call me back. Told me about 15 times that they will check it and then call
"So what will we do when we find out what's wrong? That's right! we'll call you!."
I got pissed biting my tongue and just said thanks. Swear to god if they mess with her I'm going to the BBB

Yea, they ended up saying it was the clutch for sure and offered to replace it for $580, not too bad for a clutch job. But I can find my own parts for $370-420 they want me to give them 650 for parts... and won't take mine if I get any ... wow
      I'll be going somewhere else

You should sue them. They messed up my car too. Took it in for shift concern and they ended up replacing parts that didn't fix the problem. To make matters worse, they render my car undriveable because they damaged my brakes when they replaced my cv shafts. I ended up fixing their mistakes myself. AAMCO should change their name to SCAAMCO. They never took responsibility for their mistakes. I am surprised that they are still in business.

I do not trust these people, I took my car in to check the transmission cause the gears were a little harsh but still changed every year and 2 days later my car started driving worse, for a whole month it wasn't that bad, it still runs and changes gears no slipping but now it seems like its gonna die alot faster after they checked it, there scammers, I would never again go to any aamco, I just don't trust there word and there service. Now that's my opinion, you may have had a better experience than this guy did and if you did I'm pretty sure you paid alot for it.
