  • Thank you for taking the time to watch this video! It's a bit all over the place but the main point is that rigid heteronormative structures limit research and understanding of cultures and religions that existed before these structures were introduced. I hope I can provide some useful insight into how Queer Theory can be applied to concepts like pre-Christian religion, archaeology and history.

Love the t-shirt! 💛🤍💜🖤 Also breaking down the cis-het normativity and rigid stereotypes is going to be a major challenge but also the beat possible way forward for humanity. We just have to deal with those who would rather die than give up their rigid stereotypes.

Absolutely! Fortunately, especially within humanities, academia does tend to lean towards a more post-structuralist, progressive way of thinking about human constructs. On the other hand, like you said, there's still people who will do anything in their power to hold on to these structures. It would be fun to see them develop and change their views :)

🍃 it's also weird that two people together is so quickly interpreted to be romance or a servant dynamic, in some cases it could be circumstances like bodies buried in a natural disaster/familial/close friends. like i could see even two neighbors huddling together if their entire world was imploding such as with Pompeii and if two friends/sisters who were really close happened to die at the same time i can understand burying them together too.

@@AlkemyFrost-ju4hx Absolutely, not everything needs to be romantic or sexual. Relationships are vague and confusing in the 21st century, why would it be any different in other time periods. On the other hand, if people thought to be of opposite sex are buried together, people are much quicker to jump to the "romantic partners" conclusion than with people of the same sex, which is also telling of certain prejudices...

@@queerpagan oh 100% i don't mean to counter argue that just that like in addition there's the weird emphasis when they're heterosexual that it must be sexual, like they could still be friends or siblings or circumstantial

There have been real examples of queer relationships of all types throughout history. Judging non-cis-het people doesn't make them disappear or make their feelings disappear. Good topic, nice presentation. 🌱🌿🌳

@@HLBear I'm glad you liked it! Indeed, queer people have always been present throughout the history of humankind. Actually, not only humankind, as other species can exhibit homosexuality as well, or can have completely different sexes and genders. It's so much more interesting and colourful than how some people would like it to be...
