    When i saw preview of this video, i thought that the main problem would be Polish laws, but it's so horrible to hear that you have problems to change your last name even with Dutch citizenship т-т

    • @queerpagan

      The main problem still is Polish laws. I decided to apply for Dutch citizenship because it made me able to change my first name without having to go to court (in Poland it's nearly impossible to change name & gender) sp yeah 😭 but at least it's possible!

  • @TheGreatWind

    Russian last names are the same way.
    Before I transitioned, my ex partner added a feminine marker to our last name.
    It needs to be free for us in my opinion, it’s a part of mental health and should be included with gender affirming care. At least for the first change.

    • @queerpagan

      I agree, it should be free, especially since it can have a huge impact on mental health. If I was still living in Poland it would be cheaper, but a more difficult process because trans individuals are not as accepted in society yet. I can imagine it's the same, if not worse, in Russia...

    As a German that concept of the gendered last names is very wild to me!
    I cannot immagine the distress this is causing you!
    I only had little to give, and if everyone watching this video does it, you'll soon have your -ski name!!
    Good luck Dawid :D

    • @queerpagan

      I know right, it's wild that last names need to have a gender (fun fact, it can be worse, in some countries the woman gets the feminine version of both the first and last name of her husband in a heterosexual marriage 💀💀)
      Thank you so much for your support, every tiny bit counts ❤️❤️

    • @okamiangles7121

      Wow, that sounds so strange to me! I'm Canadian, and I have never heard of gendered last names or having to take a female version of your husband's first name.

    • @queerpagan

      @okamiangles7121 In a way it's like "mr and mrs Smith" but instead of the feminine title mrs you add it to the end of the word! It's weird and unnecessary, but still an interesting concept. Many different cultures do it in many different ways!
      My situation is kinda like the Icelandic -son and -dottir, you can have women with the -son suffix but not men with the -dottir one...

    • @okamiangles7121

      @@queerpagan oh, ok. That's very interesting. Now I'm kinda interested in looking into how other countries gender names.

    • @queerpagan

      @okamiangles7121 I am not educated enough on how it works outside of Europe, but most of the time the feminine version of a last name, if it exists, refers to a relationship (wife of, daughter of) or, as in Polish, is gendered because adjectives are gendered. Perhaps other languages that use gendered adjectives also use gendered last names!

    Wow, that’s so interesting! I didn’t realize this was a thing in other last names. I’ve had to change my last name three times and it was an enormous pain in the ass, but I don’t think it cost much any time. I wish you all the best with getting it changed, that sounds like it will be a good help for you living authentically!

      @sarahallegra6239 thank you! Unfortunately even if I get the money soon, the decision from the king & Dutch registry of last names can take up to 10 months to be approved 😭 I honestly don't get what's so difficult and why it needs to be this long and expensive. But at least I'm already in the process of getting there ❤️

    Bro I feel bad for you, but I'm also really worried as to what kinds of problems I might have as a trans guy living IN POLAND 😅
    *The thing's that I'm Belarusian immigrant, and being in Poland allows me to live a lot more freely than before, but still wtf is wrong with this country😂🥲?

    • @queerpagan

      Oh yeah, I am very happy I had the opportunity to transition outside of Poland, as that country is a mess in a lot of aspects... although it seems like things are going the right way in Poland, with the new, less conservative government. I really hope they will bring actual positive changes, for everyone. But I can imagine that it's even worse in Belarus, not just for trans people but well... people in general, so I hope you'll be able to have a slightly better life in Poland ❤️

    I apologize, my friend. I'm also a student and can only give about €3.
    I understand the struggle, given my legal name change costs about €650 and the government where I live keeps contemplating if you can legally change your gender marker.
    Hang in there. Slowly, but surely, you can get to where you need to be.

      Just a question because I'm curious, how did your brothers end up with the feminine version of the last name? Are they trans? In Poland it wouldn't even be possible so I'm guessing you live abroad too? Never heard about it before, interesting! And thanks for the support ❤️

      @@queerpagan Hi, me and my family are all in the UK we have been now for 4 generations, I've only recently learned this is even a thing literally yesterday and then randomly come across your video so maybe it's just not important out of Poland hmm, none of us are trans , wish you all the best hope it works out for you soon 🤗

      @@queerpagan but weird I wonder why the men took the femine version all those generations ago, as far as I know it was a couple brothers that first came over to the uk with the surname (it's very unusual)

      @_sshh_ yeah it is very unusual for Polish men to have a feminine last name, or get their mother's last name or something, interesting! But maybe if it was generations ago it does not matter as much for your siblings anymore. I'm still partially living within polish society and around people who know my last name is "wrong", that's why it bothers me. If I lived away from Poland entirely I would probably care less too 😅

      Therapy is not going to fix my last name and neither are my friends, unless they donate to the cause ❤️
      I had to go through a lot of therapy to be where I'm at right now. This is what's going to prevent me from needing MORE therapy 😅

    • @CybernerdShua

      Trans people go through lots of therapy. Therapy alone does not help. Transitioning (whether medical or social) and having a therapist to guide you through that transition does help.

    I was never aware of the "gendered last names" in any country! Now i'm wondering about my last name of ukrainian origin💛🤍💜🖤

    • @queerpagan

      Ukrainian last names follow similar rules! For some of them the reason is Poland (I'm sorry we colonized you oops 😭) but instead of -ski it's -sky/skiy.
      As far as I know there is also the -ov vs -ova suffix, also gendered. But there are some Ukrainian last names that aren't gendered, like -chuk :)
